Well we are fortunate enough to have kept a number of our bikes over the years. Not all but enough for me, if I work through the families, to get through the lockdown riding a different one every other day. I jog every other. The group includes MTbs 1985 to 2019 and road 1979 to 2015.

I started with the single speed, make go to for a brief local ride. People used to laugh at its 2.3 tyres, seem narrow now but those and 130 forks, wider bars and it’s a good bit of kit for this short local loop roll. Haven’t bled those brakes for 12 years and are perfect, so dare not touch them! Thank you Brant for this, my most basic and cheapest bike but the one I ride the most.

Ride two, Fatty, how much fun are these, snow and hardpack and these are a smile a minute. What grip, climbed the ‘impossible’ bit, rode down steps giggling. Surprisingly confidence making when pointed down steep stuff, wouldn’t want to jump one but local Dh tracks are right fun

Today, ride three, was pretty old school late 90s. Oh boy is it different. Clips, first time I’ve been in them for a year. What narrow bars (660mm) and I’ve increased their size twice over the years! Long stem, and I’ve also shorten this twice, makes steering, initially, feel like a tiller. Two finger levers, too far outboard for one finger and it wasn’t until halfway that I realised that actually using two fingers works but then only had two fingers on the bars!!
Steep angles, bars feel like they are over the front axle, lively (twitchy) ‘tiller like’ again, and makes you think when pointing down steep stuff. 26” wheels with narrow ‘racing’ tyres, very little cornering grip compared anything else. Short sus, 100mm, though works really well on small path dips and undulations. Not much weight, think about 20-21lbs so fast to accelerate and climbs like a goat, feels like cheating. Got used to all of this and it was fun, not sure how well it would cope with an Enduro track..? Seems it makes a great flat bar gravel bike.

Umm so what will it be in two days time,
