Dave Sullivan. Seriously..... Before you comment you do some research. Unless he thinks it was travelling Man U fans trying to get to LVG!!! Not that he was claiming it wasn't West Ham fans but to see that behaviour being reported and confirmed by the Police and then he states oh no some will miss their jelly and ice cream now at the end!!!!

They seem to have resurrected the name just as they are leaving. We were discussing it earlier and no one had heard the name before.

Apparently there's a champions league spot still going begging. You wouldn't know it!

Harsh that binners there has been at least 5 % less sideways passing from us than usual. At one point I am pretty sure we were actually quite clearly attacking them.

Good to see us keeping our consistentcy in not having a shot on target in the first half! Ever! Under any circumstances!

I've been wondering this too. To me, the ground has always been Upton Park. At some point in the last few years it seemed to start being called the Boleyn Ground. Has it always been called that & I just hadn't noticed?

You boys need to get Roy Keane out of retirement. He'd do better than your current midfielders. Hammers should be 3-0 up.

If Wayne Roomey played any deeper he would be in the goal

😀

At least it solves Woy's problem. Kane and Vardy up front and Wayne as a sweeper...

'Boleyn Bouncing' according to Sky. Must be something to 'secure the legacy' i.e. sell more merchandise.

Paulo Di Canio. What a tit but the guy was gold to watch. Good memories of him trying to get himself substituted and arguing with fat frank for a penalty. Plus he scored the greatest goal ever (That Dennis Bergkamp or Tony Yeboah didn't score of course) all of which happened at Upton Park

To be fair Rockape, I could probably do better than our current midfielders.

I'm hoping this might be the archetypal 'game of two halves'. They must be nackered! They can't keep that pace up for another 45.

In a moment of madness earlier I stuck a fiver on both teams to score and a United win. I'd foolishly thought that with a champions league spot on offer we might actually turn up

I've heard commentators calling it the Boleyn for years but only once every so often,it was always upton park and then it changed and upton park never gets mentioned, very strange.I only remember because I always thought they were calling it the bowling ground:).

Always been Upton Park to me based on what TV/Radio called it. However doing a Internet search for programmes suggests is always been Boleyn Ground, Upton Park, London.

Part of me hopes both utd and city make it at the expense of arsenal...

Looks like that's out the window. Arsenal are destined for another year of being knocked out by Barcelona after the group stages.

Yeah they could finish 8th if Liverpool win their last two games, Saints and West Ham win their last game and Utd lose to Bournemouth. For the football they play, 8th would be about right. Enter Jose!

Players I'd still like to see at United next season:

De Gea
Smalling
Martial

And some of the kids. Who really shouldn't need to be starting every game.

That's it. The rest,,,,? Hopeless! The worst United squad I've ever had the misfortune to watch, by a country mile! Absolutely woeful! The style of football under VG is appalling to watch!

Usual stats tonight Binners - 60% possession, 3 shots.

I think if you're honest binbins, without DeGea the season would have been really bad. Champions League still not gone - wouldn't trust Citeh not to **** up their last game. If LVG had anything going for him, at least he got youngsters playing and is still in with a shout of 4th despite the football they've been playing (which, no disrespect to Leicester, is testament to the standard of the EPL this season). Jose won't have any interest in the youth team. It would be a shame were Utd to stop trying with the youth sides, but when the hunger for success sets in, all kinds of tradition goes out the window.

De Gea has been voted Utds player of the year 3 years in a row. Yes, he's outstanding, but a club apparently wedded to attacking principles shouldn't be so reliant on their goalie.

Agree re youth policy. No way Rashford would have got a game under Jose. The right back Fosu-Mensah looks a good prospect. Lingaard isn't very good though is he and LVG shouldn't have sold Welbeck. He's not top top class but he was decent enough and a local lad to boot.

You're bang on Bravissimo! Without De Gea we'd be mid table.at best! Can't see him hanging around for another season of bailing a piss poor team out!

The one positive has been the youth team players coming through. The big money signings, Martial excepted, have been absolutely woeful! Memphis Depay? A goalscorer? **** off! He's got 2 goals for the season and never even made the bench tonight! For good reason! He couldn't hit a barn door with a shovel! Blind had another shocker tonight! Same as Rojo! And in the middle of it all, playing in God knows what position, you've got Rooney lumbering about.

United squads in the past looked like they could score from anywhere. Martial is now the only player in the squad who will actually have a crack on goal! The rest just pass it endlessly sideways in midfield while the opposition defence get the deck chairs out and sit reading some poetry

A least Fellani wasn't playing tonight

I commiserate who you binners - for a real fan that must be dire to watch. 3 shots on target - WTF is in that folder? Porn???

Don't forget Morgan! I've paid no attention to you lot this season, but the fact I've Not heard his name all the time implies you've wasted him. We'll happily have him back at saints, with him again we could push for top four (only mostly joking)

Apparently Theo Walcott is off to West Ham for £25m.

Not sure they need his prolific goal scoring really.

I think all the top teams in the Prem will have to get used to the fact that the smaller teams have enough money to buy decent players, thus reducing the pool. If you think about it, Arsenal fans have been moaning for years about the lack of top quality players in our spine, Chelsea need a total regroup, City need to replace players like Toure, but who with? Liverpool want to buy and now Clubs like Leicester & West Ham are looking to spend serious cash.

All very good, but are the right players available? Based on LVG's spree, not many are and the one that was cost £58m....FFS!

To be fair to the one who cost £58 million he said he was mystified that having bought him, LVG constantly played him out of position. Sound familar? Well he might want to have a word with Mata about that. I bet he wasn't as mystified as Ashley Young when he was brought on to play as a central striker! Absolutely bonkers!!

Watching the old footage of West Ham v United games, when the match was delayed, Andy Cole had twice as many shots on target in the last 5 minutes of one game than the entire United squad had in the entire match tonight

Not been on this thread before, but to the "since when has it been called The Boleyn?" questions... A very long time, just not been used much until recently. My first match was 25 years ago, a turgid 3-1 loss to Sheff Wed (almost as turgid as my last game Saturday's 4-1 loss), I was told at that time "we're off to The Boleyn."

In my mind it's a bit like Man City a few years ago before it was named The Etihad. I remember commentators and pundits referring to Commonwealth Stadium, Eastlands and then finally The City of Manchester Stadium which seemed to stick with commentators. Our ground is/was The Boleyn in the area of Upton Park, for some reason the latter stuck and was more commonly used.

Sheringham is a footballing genius, everyone remebers the Beckham free kick against Greece to send us to the World Cup but it was Teddy who conned the ref to get the kick 🙂

So, if things stay as they are, then Sunderland are safe, and NUFC and Norwich join the mighty Villa in the Championship.

Big Sam will be pleased...

P.S Everton are like a cut price Arsenal with their bottling.

Lingard should be fined by the club for that getting out. Looks like a school trip rather than pros getting to the biggest game of their season. Love to have seen SAFs reaction should he still have been there or more so Roy Keane's. Fair play to CBJ. All the players should have done likewise.

Martinez can't coach teams in the art of defending. Remember this guy has form as he was in charge of Wigan when they lost 9-1 to Spurs (only twice in PL history has a team scored 9).

@tmh Hazard was not impressed with his treatment from Morihnho, imo a classic example of Jose's style being counterprodictive

Congratulations to Sunderland (and of course Defoe for his part). I do hope Newcastle can get their house in order, Ashley needs to move on. BBC link

Yep, didn't expect to wake up to a good result this morning. Too many missed opportunities at NUFC, there were 8-10 1 or 2 points lost games that did the damage after a lot of crap. The only hope is Bernitez staying and persuading a core of players to remain while probably trying to get some of the big names on loan to come in if we get back up.

Unless the fat cockney leaves (FA fit & proper person test time?) we are doomed long term. Maybe it's time for a new owner any billionaires who want to become millionaires?

mike, I reckon you'd have had a better chance of seeing Ashley's arse headed back down the A1(M) if Newcastle had stayed up. As it is, he now has a severely depreciated asset which won't appreciate until it's back in the EPL. To go, he'll have to take a massive loss. So you may well be stuck with him for another year. I really can't see Rafa staying either. There will be other offers for him - not sure he'd fancy the championship. Feel for you dude. An owner who's been too slow with decision making (but doesn't appear to have to same inertia where Sports Direct is concerned), is despised by most fans has dragged a club that attracts 50k+ to every game, has no other real rivals in its (big!) home city down into the championship. It could only happen in the wonderful world of the EPL.

Well there's a shocker for you - Martinez has been given the boot. I always thought he was over-rated a bit but crikey, he's done a terrible job at Everton. Although, given the football they've been playing, I can't quite believe they've still managed 12th.
