But how can he be sure that his mind isn't playing tricks on him?
Isn't that exactly what it is doing? And to a lesser extent what everyone's does. Your eyes just sense stuff, its your brain that stitches that together into something useful.
Even with a fully functioning brain and knowing that they're there, the yellow dots are still invisible!
Minimum of 1/6 of their brain not there? Surely just getting a head start on being a teenager.
@thisisnotaspoon That's really cool. Reminds me a bit of the inverted glasses experiments https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_M._Stratton#Work
What we perceive of the world is always the end result of processing by our brains, and our brains are capable of lots of amazing feats of processing to help make sense of things. The inverted glasses experiments show how the brain can adapt to glasses that initially make everything appear upside down. After a period of adaptation it's possible to do things like ride a bike whilst wearing them.
Made me think of this guy

I'll see your headless chicken, and raise you a country running around like one https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom
Google "Phineas Gage."
Very interesting indeed. Young brain is so plastic.
