Just wondering if anyone local to the Borders region know what the status of the trails after the December storms. The website says there are a lot of the trails closed or diverted. Is this still the case?
Aye - unfortunately so.
Mabie & Ae have managed to get a bit opened again (haven't been able to get to the latter much of late but there's regularly folks out riding there). Best bet with Ae is to drop the lads in the shop a note; they'll keep you right.
Depending on what you were hoping to ride, it's only the official waymarked stuff that's accessible at Mabie. All of the off-piste by the quarry is very much off-limits due to harvesting works at present, let alone the storm damage.
Dalbeattie has a tonne of stuff down around the Terrible Twins / Spooky Wood end of the forest - the trail is under here somewhere:
I came in from the Kippford side that day so I can't say what it's like closer to the car park or Slab sections.
Haven't ventured far as Kirroughtree or Newcastleton since Arwen, sorry.
Kirroughtree is open .
Newcastleton is closed. Looks like it'll take them ages to clear, having to focus on the commercially viable timber first. Shame, it's a lovely quiet place with trails as gnarly as you are fast.
Kiro is open but with diversions I believe.
Need to actually get out on a mtb instead of the gravel bike!
Thanks for the updates everyone.
