We are planning a few days in the Peaks in July and are considering hiring a 7 seater to get us all there in one vehicle. There will be 7 people (4 adults, 2 teenagers, 1 baby) a dog, food and baggage for 3 nights stay. The options are VW Touran or Peugeot 5008 from the local car hire.

Are these big enough? Or should we just get a smaller car and go in two cars with two proper boots for storage?

Hire a minibus.

If you're using the back seats in a touran there is virtually no boot space. Proper 7 seater would be better. Or roof box...

If my S Max is anything to go by (similar in size to the two you mentioned) there isn't a lot of room in the boot once the back row of seats are up.

Minibus or two cars.

Absolutely no chance, especially with the dog. The boot will barely be big enough for the dog in those choices. Even a big 7 seater like a Galaxy you'd struggle. Two smaller cars is a better option, or hire a LWB Transporter or similar.

There's naff all space in any of the "5+2" style once you're using the rearmost seats. Minibus!

It's fine for 7 people or 7 people's luggage, not both

5008 is the better of the two, still won't get much in there though:

Sixt do VW Transporter Shuttles for not much more than a Galaxy, 8 seats so can be driven on a regular car licence. Go bigger and you'd need D1 on your licence (unlikely if you passed your car test after about 1997)
