Celebrating Bowie this weekend , it would have been his birthday today and Sunday 5 years ago he died
BBC4 from 9
I tried the 6music thing, but "blah blah I saw David live in 1986, was the best ever" got on my tits
I went to the glass spider concerts at Maine Road in Manchester two nights on the bounce. Next to seeing Joy Division in a pub in Hale it was an incredible evening. The man was a genius at reinvention and carved iconic work that I hope will remain.
Dancing to Young Americans in Pips Manchester in ‘82 is as good as it gets....
But the ad nauseum He is David Bowie gets on my tits. I like some of his stuff but he is not God (your God of choice)
He was the king of spin for sure, an ale can, a junky and lots more as well as being definitely human.
Artists for me deserve some space to do what we dream to do

As someone who is not interested in music, why would you bother opening the thread?
I'm not Bowie's biggest fan, but Johnnie Walker is doing a Bowie special now on his Sounds of the 70s show.
Well worth a listen on the Sounds app.
I was a big Bowie fan (even going as far as sharing a birthday), but after a while I drifted. I know we can’t expect anyone to be 100% benevolent, but the way he shat in Trevor Bolder, Mick Ronson and Woody Woodmansy was despicable.
Can or Neu shared a lot of their work with Eno/Bowie then he comes up with the Berlin trilogy.
Likewise with Ashes to Ashes. The Blitz club was well underway by the time that came out but little known to the mainstream. He just helped put a spotlight on it rather than help creste it.

Thanks for the heads up, I heard a couple of 6 music programs but they were a bit worthy. Johnnie Walker was plenty of music with a little bit of chat.
He played a few songs off the BBC live back catalogue. I have a double CD of these in front of me in the office if anyone wants it DM me and I will pop it in the post. Also have Ziggy Stardust CD lying around here if anyone wants that also
