No where is giving me a definitive answer. Not even Nissan...does anybody know for sure whether this van has a belt or a chain?

Chain from memory.
They should be able to tell you from menu pricing.. failing that call the parts dept and ask them to part number the belt up.

If it has a M9R, engine code it has a chain.

It is an M9R engine, so has a chain, 100%. Is it one your buying? If yes, make sure it has had the bulkhead sealing done, can cause injector issues if not.
