This site has more time off than Clint Eastwood's safety catch! Same yesterday morning. Hamsters been on a bender and hung over?

Got that message multiple times yesterday and a message saying something along the lines of “Having trouble connecting to the database” this morning.

Working now, but it's been down for at least a couple of hours this morning. Probably overnight too judging by the 7 hour gap in posts. If it's been shut for site maintenance, overnight makes sense. Saturday morning not so much.

Had the same yesterday morning. I spend far too much time on here, so it's probably good for my 'digital wellbeing' or some such. Thanks STW you kept that member benefit quiet! 😁

Start a thread about it, that'll sort it.

As far as I'm aware the 502 errors are usually claimed to be down to external forces, eg DDoS attacks. Quite who would want to attack a cycling forum I'm less clear on, aside perhaps from Pistonheads or Mumsnet. 😁

The iPhone browser constantly asks for an increasing amount of storage for STW every time I load a page. Mozilla is fine.

It’s asking for 4.6gb now.

Its not about sorting it, its to know if its just the OP, and their connection, or its everyone. Or maybe if there is a bodgy workaround, as there has been for many other forum issues in the past.

FWIW the 502 happened to me the yesterday and in the early hours of this morning

Ooh.. do I detect a smidge of ex mod snark? 😜  I know it won't sort it. Just curious if it was just me and if not, was there a reason for it? DDoS, maintenance or whatever. I don't think it's entirely unreasonable to ask, Mark is often quite good about keeping the inmates in check by letting us know about stuff like this. But I get that it's the weekend and hopefully he and the team are riding bikes in the sun somewhere.

502 errors are always a server issue not the user (client) end.  Developers often like to blame some sort of overload or denial of service attack but 9/10 times it’s some janky code that’s causing the problem rather than some external factor.  If it was a genuine load issue and happened as often as it does here - someone needs to invest in a better load balancer!

I know it won’t sort it. Just curious if it was just me and if not,

Unless you're doing something weird, and you'd know if you were because it'd be intentional, then 502 errors are always a failure either of a site or an intermediary as Poly said.

Regardless, there is a process for reporting technical issues. If you aren't getting a response from Tech / Admin then, well.
