So my 4yr old Samsung s7 doesn't hold charge very well now, apart from that it does everything I need.
I was looking at getting the battery replaced, but have now been reading on some sites that older mobiles can have security issues once they stop receiving updates ( think mine is no longer updated)
Anyway is this a real issue and is it better to look at at a newer phone (I'd probably get a Moto G8power) or is it nothing to worry about as long as I'm not installing non play store apps?
I've got an S7 and had the battery changed rather than buying a new phone.
It was a great phone and still is! Does everything I want it to and very well.
My old S6 is a better phone than my G8 Power in every way apart from battery life.
I occasionally use the S6 via ANT to speak to my smart trainer and if out running (Spotify and Bluetooth headphones). G8 is heavy and big with no stand out features bar battery life.
Only issue with getting a replacement battery is that sometimes these can be old batteries that have sat on a shelf for ages.
I replaced the battery in my old Sony Xperia T after 4 years or so. It was a genuine Sony battery, but was only a tiny bit better than the one that had been in there.
I'd do it if it isn't too expensive but be prepared to replace it anyway.
If it's 3GB+ memory and 64GB+ storage and battery is sub £50, maybe new battery.
Else embrace the performance of new mobile tech imo.
For Apple stuff I'd say new battery if the phone is still getting updates (which four year old phones are). Samsung are... less dedicated to ensuring existing hardware works, so flip it on eBay or whatever and get a new one. Maybe one of the models which gets updates from Google directly.
I would say change battery as long as you are not as hamfisted as me. Put sucker onto screen to pull phone apart and actually ripped screen off of backing and wouldn't go back on. Phone sold for spares...
