For a pretty skint British student, how good is 4th July in New York? Worth hanging around for a few days (will be in NYC for a couple days anyway), or head down to Colombia earlier?

Ta,
Duane.

Get yourself to Bleeker St. Have a pint of Sierra Nevada in the Blind Tiger and then an Eric's salad in Fish over the road (their starter is a full meal). Heaven!

It's worth hanging around for. The atmosphere is great. Head to pier 1 to watch the free Macys firework display

....and if you're at Bleeker Street, you have to go to John's Pizzeria!

Thanks guys. Is everything (drinks, hostels etc) going to be more expensive for that period? Really tempted to head to Colombia earlier as should help save some money.

July 4th is usually the biggest fireworks show of the year in most US cities. I would assume that NYC puts on a pretty elaborate one.

Might be worth checking out AirBnB. I've used that a few times and it's infinitely superior to staying in hotels, cheaper too.
