Short listed these two. Which one would STW choose ?

It will be plugged into a Sony STRDN 1080 receiver hooked up to a 4k TV and 7.1 KEF speaker array.

Have you watched any 4K BluRays ? I have a Panasonic player and their top end TV but I’ve found 4K Discs to be an enormous disappointment. Most of them have been edited in 2K and then blown back up to 4K, completely defeating the purpose :/

I'd choose the £249 one as it looks like it'll stack with my existing gear better than the £199 one.

One is fifty quid dearer than the other. What additional desirable features do you get for your extra cash?

Dual band Wi-Fi and a vibration damped mechanism are the two differences I can be sure of. The compare product features on Richer Sounds and John Lewis are useless so not sure what else is different.

I’ve had a quick look at Highwaymen, this looks like my kind of movie ! I’ll check it out properly when I’m off work.

This movie isn’t shown in 4K on Netflix, though it does appear to have good HDR support. Outdoor stuff looks great.

You might want to check out this site before you buy some movies

Dual band Wi-Fi

What are you doing with Wi-Fi, using it as a streaming header? Could be handy for future-proofing I suppose but 2.4GHz is probably still faster than your Internet connection.

and a vibration damped mechanism

That sounds like snake oil to me.

Streaming will done from Sky Q or Apple TV.

The crux of the matter is which will give the best picture and sound quality when plying movies

Sound quality will be the same for both, they’re just sending bits to your receiver for it to decode.

I’d be surprised if there was a noticeable difference in picture quality to the naked eye.

There should be zero difference in any quality, as there is an absolute spec for translating the stream on the disc to a stream for hdmi. Any what hifi review suggesting otherwise is bullocks, just get the cheapest one that has the features you want

In that case I'd save £50, they'll be identical. That's how digital works.
