So Openreach and broadband supplier are cocking-up our broadband install at our new house and showing no signs knowing who's to blame or how to fix! 😬

We've been tethering to phones but it's eaten all our data and you can only tether one device at a time so just thinking of a 4G router as a temp solution.

Who is the best value for this for a hopefully short-term option?

I've got a Tenda N300 for when the broadband breaks. I use the unlimited SIM from my phone. If you need a SIM SMARTY are cheap

You should be able to tether more than one device at a time...

Maybe a Huawei B535 off amazon, sell it on ebay after, you might lose £25
Smarty unlimited data is available for £16/month on a 1 month contract.

I bought a previously enjoyed Huawei 4G router from eBay and fitted a £10.00 per month SMARTY SIM. Worked perfectly for 3 months and was faster than the DSL that it replaced (I only needed it for a few months, it didn't break)

Just get a decent router (ideally with an external antenna) and choose a 1 month sim only contract:

Smarty (3) £20 - unlimited data
ID Mobile (3) £17.50 - unlimited data
Lebara (Vodafone) £25 - unlimited data

All o2 monthly sims including giffgaff and Tesco are limited to 600gb of data (upload and download)

EE don’t really have a competitive sim product on a 30 day plan.

I got a hauwai b311 last year when virgin cocked up in our area for a week. Smarty SIM. Was decent, not as fast a connection as the virgin, but still WFH able.
Aka +1 what almost everyone above says

We were on 4G WiFi for over 18 months - first a BT Smarthub with an external aerial on EE and then a Linksys 4G router on a GiffGaff unlimited data SIM. Max data we could get on EE was 200Mb/month whereas GiffGaff was unlimited for same money. Lots of routers on eBay for little money.

I run off 4GLTE right in the middle of the sticks (North Wales) - 1.5mbps on landline, 60mbps through mobile.

Got an unlimited EE sim. Works fine.

Thanks all!

Looking at coverage it looks like I'm stuck with o2 and Vodafone in my area.

Engineer is booked (again!) tomorrow so hopefully it won't be needed. 🙂

3 do a 5g router for £11 per month, gotta be worth a look if you can get 5g in your area.

https://www.three.co.uk/store/broadband/home-broadband

Or they do a 4g one for a tenner per month.

Edit, thats for the first 6 months, then the 4g one increses to £20, and the 5g to £30.

TBH, you could just use 4g permenantly if you have coverage, £20 isnt bad at all.
