I’m not a frequent cinema goer some I’d welcome some advice. At some point I’ll find the time to see Endgame so what’s the preferred format imax or 4DX or is there another, ie 3D?
4DX is a gimmick. IMAX is the format some of the big films are filmed in. 3D is separate but endgame at my local is only in IMAX 3D not 2D. I saw it yesterday in this format and it’s huge. And the best film I’ve seen in 3D. Still, if I had an option to see it in IMAX but not 3D I would’ve gone for that as overall, I’m not a 3D fan.
Thanks.
4dx adds environment effects such as wind and rain etc I think at the moment its still a gimmick kind of like when 3d was first launched where the effects were over the top and after the initial "OMG its flying right at me!" it became tiresome. More recent 3d movies are much better, the effects are better executed and give a genuine sense of depth to the scene.
The one movie I saw in 4dx didn't really detract from the movie like bad 3d effects. So as long as the picture IMAX 3d quality and the ticket price is not much more then its worth giving it go.
4DX gives stuff like shaky seats when there's an earthquake and suchlike, and other effects like wind. It's nothing to do with the screen format, though they tend to be with larger screens.
IMAX is, well, IMAX. Depending on the venue, it's a screen three times the size of a regular cinema screen.

Experience extreme sensory cinema with 4DX, a Cineworld exclusive in the UK. With stimulating effects like water, wind, scent and strobe lighting that are timed to enhance what’s happening on screen, you’ll be truly thrilled in your seat. And speaking of your seat – it moves. The high-tech motion programming means it moves in time with the film’s action, and along with vibrations and shaking, you’ll feel like you’re part of the car chase, standing in the eye of the storm or steering the boat right into a tidal wave.
