I'm guilty of pootling along at 50mph in the car, not for safety but because it uses heaps less fuel then 60/70. Noticeably heaps less. Although weirdly I sit at 60/65 on the motorbike and get passed more often, I think it is because people can see past me better. (it's a 125 btw, top speed is 74 so the manual says, which I doubt, so 65 is ragging it) I would say at least 50% of the time I catch the passeurs at the double set of traffic lights coming into the city. I fight the temptation to filter past them, there is no need to wind people up. Well, most of the time I fight it.

Your comment on times of day is so very true. The difference in driving standards at weekends is particularly noticeable.
Probably a combination of 'weekend only' drivers and the fact that people are generally not in a hurry to get anywhere = large reduction in concentration 👿
I find weekend drivers noticeably less aggressive than rush hour commuters.
While I am perfectly happy to ride at my own rate on roads (outside of 20/30/40) and have driven on public roads at over 150mph in a car and 170mph on a m/c

A6 shap used to be one of my faves for speeding - wide,not much traffic fast as you like.
I have gone speeding at speeds that would make your eyes bleed.
After that, any opinion he may hold on "speeding" or anything to do with road safety is null and void in my opinion.
If your eyes are bleeding, you cannot see the danger ahead of you.
