I've just discovered that the 4.5kg gas bottle has been discontinued last year. We've a nearly empty bottle. The vented cabinet is sized for twin 4.5kg side by side and I'm pretty sure won't take a taller cylinder...
It seems that, with an eye on visiting Europe, a twin Campingaz 907 setup would work best for us. This of course means a new regulator fitting(s) to work.
Anyone got any insight or suggestions?
We've done the same. We were away at the time and hadn't realised that we would need a new fitting (we had the regulater with us) so had to call into a Caravan Store for a new hose and fitting.
Our rubber washer perished too so its worth buying a couple of those as well.
There's a world of information out there but I've just looked on Hamilton gas website for ideas
https://www.gasproducts.co.uk/
I've called them a few times too and they're very knowledgeable and helpful
Don't forget the rubber hose needs to be replaced every 5 years. Stainless Flexi pipe is a good replacement if you want to keep the van for a long time
Not sure if you have enough room but we dumped Calorgas and their Calorlite bottles as it was becoming a pain trying to swap them Bought a couple of Safefill bottles from eBay with 20% off and haven't looked back. Costs us 30% of what we were paying to swap for more gas. Easy to fill up local and I Europe
Is the hose on my current 4.kg butane the correct size? It looks like I've got a remote regulator, so could just get a screw on valve I think?
You might just need new pigtail (hose & fitting) plus new regulator
If you've got a local friendly caravan dealer they'll tell you what you need to do
I think flogas still do 4.5kg bottles of you have a retailer near you or you could swap to Propane and use 5kg patio gas bottles.
Swapping to propane does need a new regulator. I'm not certain with camping Gaz. I'm guessing bottle pressure is the same as it's liquid in the bottle.
It may need different hose, not the standard camping shop orange rubber, if the regulator is remote from the bottle as the pressure is higher.
Edit: as above with a van you have to swallow your pride and go to a caravan shop that vans are obviously too cool for 😉
Moved from calor to flogas after they stopped the canister size I needed.
Don't know if flogas is near you, but much better choice of sizes.
Don't worry U turn incoming. In the meantime I have been refilling mine from a larger bottle and a £15 ebay pipe (dont tell anyone as it is apparently not allowed)

I understand they are continuing supplying them. Just a delay while they make some more.
edit - too late posted above
Don't worry U turn incoming
FFS. Ok so I need to find one exchange bottle and see what happens later this year...
Having an alternative setup is still useful. You can re-plumb when the 4.5kgs are readily available again.
I looked at converting our 907 set up to propane and it wasn't a huge cost to do it. It's the bottles/refills that is the big outlay
Yeah, the LPG is bloody brilliant and costs about £5 to fill, found in abundance abroad (Italy won't let you fill up though), stations are becoming like hen's teeth in Scotland.
We have both flogas and calor bottles for our (very occasionally used but was more when working on our old house) space heater as there is one flogas and one calor shop in town and it means we can more reliably get a refil.
TLDR having a flogas bottle spare is handy as calor retailers aren't always available.
Flogas is cheaper, they deliver, they do 4.5kg bottles, the regulator is the same

Oh and we're you anywhere near se19 I'd give you my half full 4.5kg calor that I've had 20 plus years.
Great offer but I'm about 450 miles north of you!
I do have a 907 in the shed from eldest_oab's camper build. I think I'm going to sort a second line for that.
It means I can temporarily use that and fill the 4.5kg when I can. It would also work on the continent in future as you can get Campingaz there if we ever needed.
If you want to use Camping Gaz but have a Calor Butane set up use an adaptor easily available from that large on-line retailer - Camping Gaz Adapter For Motorhome & Caravan Regulators Fits 907,904 & 901 : Amazon.co.uk: Automotive
Apparently despite reintroducing the 3.9 propane and 4.5 butane cylinders, Calor still have huge supply issues so don't hold your breath....
Apologies, the linky doesn't work....
