So when do we start swinging? We could get 700 here today dead easy then slowly and mercilessly pick them apart over the next two days*

*Well, two or three hours 🙂

Lots of talk on Sky of Cook going for Gooch's 333.

I'd like to see England start going at it reckless now to shove some quick runs on, then put India in again. Longer they have to bat the less the chance of them holding on for a draw.
edit: especially given changeable weather.

(caveat: I know next to nothing about Test cricket)

especially given changeable weather

That is the worry - anything could happen with the weather although it is looking better for tomorrow and especially Sunday at the moment - get that ball skipping down the dry track rather than being held up...

Calm down people, this is a 5 day test lest we forget! Ok we've gone off for bad weather at the moment, but set not to last long. India struggle to bat for a day, let alone 2 and a bit! I'd like to see us go past 700, and set India 500 just to make us even have to bat again. They'll be so tired from having fielded for something like 200 overs, they won't be able to bat at all, and Jimmy Anderson, Stuart Broad and Tim Bresnan will be banging in having had 2 days sat doing nothing! And it's swinging... And they're all 10mph faster than the Indian bowlers...

England should just bat right through today and totally demoralise India, then probably declare overnight.

Klunk - Member
back out

Or in?

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in.

Each man that's in the side that's in, goes out, and when he's out, he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out.

When they are all out the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in out.

Sometimes you get men still in and not out.

When both sides have been in and out including the not-outs, that's the end of the game.

Cook is going smash all records for an english batsman at this rate. The guy is a batting machine.

Bopara's not going to get a go is he? (or if he does it will be totally meaningless with nothing for him to gain)

Still got a way to go to beat Gooch's high score, let alone Hutton's - not really scoring fast enough to have enough time before the declaration. Though I think there's little doubt that unless he breaks down he'll take the record for most hundreds by an Englishman sometime in the next couple of years and will go on to be the first Englishman past 10,000 runs.

So Bopara does get a go. If he wants to challenge Morgan he'll need to swing his bat and score a double in quick time.

Cook's got his 250, call them in and let's get the game done. Carrying on batting is just ripping the p***.

Classic quote from the guys on TestMatchSofa after Prior's dismissal:

"What's going on (with genuine dismay)??! We're not going to make 700 at this rate...!"

Don't hear that very often 😀

Piss off, the pair of you 🙂

At least Prior was having a go, and he's proven at this level. Bopara has been on the periphery for ages...because he's not good enough!
