Family of 4 (2 teenage boys) we’ll be in LA for 3 days currently booked a place in Santa Monica, though open for suggestions for areas and hotels.
At this point booked into a hotel/motel which isn’t in the safest place in Santa Monica.

We’ll be chilling out with a trip to six flags for one of the days.

Any ideas/suggestions welcome.

Just under the pier you have Venice which has plenty of entertainment

Space Shuttle Endeavour is in the science museum.

We went in 2014. Stayed in Hollywood (not that great) but we did some good tours at the studio.

I just like hanging and wondering around Santa Monica. Couple of options:

1. Hire bikes by the pier and cycle to Venice Beach is entertaining or head north and avoid the crowds
2. Wonder round Rei for a bit, amazing shop - https://www.rei.com/stores/santa-monica
3. Pier (Obvs)
4. Sol Algava - great Mexican food - https://www.solagave.com/santa-monica
5. If you have a car drive up the PCH
6. Take a bus ride to the Griffin Observatory - that will take all day 🙂
7. Go to a diner for breakfast - Mel's diner is a good start
8. Beach/sea - we went swimming in April last year

OR go and stay in laguna beach????

Griffiths observatory is great, and you can see the Hollywood sign too

La Brea tar pits are surprisingly excellent too - maybe teenagers are a touch too old but not sure.

If you have any interest in skateboarding (or if you want to create some, watch Dogtown & Z boys) then go to Dogtown coffee for nostalgic boards and delicious breakfast burritos & coffee

Stayed here April last year for three nights (family of five). Great spot, well located but like most places in LA you’ll need a car.

https://www.leparcsuites.com/

We could cater for breakfast (supermarket + kitchenette), eat out in evening, out all day, but we had tons of space and it was down a quiet road with a pool and tennis court on the roof. When we talk about our wider CA trip we all say (and I was an LA hater) we really enjoyed it there.

Touring wise, Santa Monica + Venice, Getty Museum, Griffith, big sign, Rodeo Drive, Petersen Museum. Seek out some NBA.

Thanks all for recommendations 😊

Yosemite looks like it will be cancelled as it’s too snowy, head down the coast !!!!

Laurel Canyon.

Original home to Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Crosby Stills Nash + others...Late '60s early '0s folk/rock/pop

I didn't like central LA much. Bit rough, lots of homeless sleepers on the streets, beggers (Hobo's?), etc.

I won a trip to LA back in the early 90’s, stayed in a hotel on Lankershim, from where my mate and I decided to walk to Universal Studios lot. One of the girls from the hotel stopped and offered us a lift the rest of the way. She was astonished we’d got as far as we had, we just shrugged, said we’re English we walk everywhere! We did walk back though…

We did drive down to Santa Monica and Venice Beach, probably a nicer area to stay really; it was a bit odd sitting in The King’s Head drinking Guinness looking out over the Pacific Ocean though. Ate out at Toi on Sunset every evening, Pan Asian food, very good too. Just along from Mesa Boogie amps shop.

We stayed here in Calabasas last summer- four of us had two king beds and a foldaway, in one large room, for a bit under 200 a night, a bargain compared to a lot of chain hotels - we enjoyed it so much we just cancelled our central LA hotel and just drove in each morning (half hour or so). Running/hiking trails in the hills straight out of the hotel, pool open til late in the evening, decent food outlets across the road. Close to Malibu, Santa Monica and 30 minutes on the freeway into LA.

After a work trip to LA (Anaheim), my colleague and I did a drive around that included:

Compton (including Kelly Park where Eazy E hung out)
Watts - home of riots!
The intersection of Florence and Normandy (where the LA Riots essentially began)

Much more fun than the beach 😉

So are Sierra-at-Tahoe and Bear Valley ski resorts - 50-odd feet of snow mean the chairlift pylons are buried up to the cable carriers!

When, exactly, are you going?

The reason I’m asking…
