I need a few weeks off in Spring. Any ideas for memorable trips? No country off limits.

Thanks

We had three weeks in British Columbia for our honeymoon back in 2002. Calgary, Banff, Jasper, Kamloops, Vancouver, Vancouver Island. A few day trips from each. Did the Rockie Pioneer train from Jasper-Vancouver.

When in Spring might be an issue unless you go early for skiing. We landed first week in June, the day before had seen the last snowfall, Lake Louise was frozen the first day we went up but had melted 4-5 days later.

I wasn't riding back then, otherwise other options would have been available over there

Thailand would be good. A bit of beach and visit an island or two then head north for some culture and a bit of jungle mountain biking. Great food, friendly people, stunning scenery.

Or a European road trip. Plenty of time to get down to the Pyrenees then across to the alps. Take in some sights on the way. Not sure that spring would be best for this but it will be quiet

What are your interests? How independant a traveller are you?

In the stw habit of recommending stuff you've done or want to do!...

Hike the first 100 miles of the Appalachian Trail. Smokey Mtns forests and waterfalls. Cold at night but should be mostly snow-free. Combine with Nashville music and whisky.

Perfect time for Florida / Georgia freshwater swamp canoeing or Carolinas beaches. Remote and wild.

Utah and Arizona canyons and sandstone will be cold at night and possibility of snowfall in March, but April May are best times to hike into the Grand Canyon. You do need to book hiking permits ahead for GC. Further north there is too much snow for good outdoors until May-July.

South Africa? Affordable to get to and around without being difficult to arrange. April-May is tail end of wet season so good for KwaZulu Natal beaches, Drakensberg Mountains and Kruger NP. Feb-March Cape Town is warm, stunning mountains, huge variety of landscapes and wildlife in a few hours, and very easy to drive yourself around, or head into Namibia for amazing landscapes.

Tasmania for wildlife and properly remote hiking and warm weather though it always rains a bit. Or New Zealand south island similarly our spring their autumn is great time before snow starts, kayak with seal pups in Abel Tasman NP and drink wine. Then go whale watching and see penguins on the east coast. Then do a multiday hike or mountain biking in the mountains (again need to prebook a permit for hikes, look at Great Walks website). Or combine with North Island and hike a volcano.
