Anyone got any experience of these with the folding hard top. I assume everything from the tops of the doors down is 'normal' 3 series, so should be OK? Any common issues with leaks / failure of the hard top to be aware of ?

It won't be the same as a normal 3 series from the top of the doors down. Rear seats (and trim) will be different to accommodate the roof mechanism. Also some of the strength that was provided by roof and supports will have been built into the rest of the car.

Just be careful on engine choice with the e93. I assume you’re going petrol over diesel for al fresco motoring?

320i sound a bit crap and underpowered, earlier 325i (N52 engine) strong engine and sound much nicer, earlier 330i better still, later 325i and 330i (N53 engine both 3l capacity) shite - sounds rubbish (direct injection) and go through injectors like they’re a consumable (£200 a pop and 6 to go pop), 335i seriously quick and tuneable but issues with high pressure fuel pump and earlier twin turbo units... Sooooo you should probably get the V8 M3 I guess!

Can't imagine there would be any issues with the hard top other than weight but my dad had a 6 series convertible a while back and he had a lot of trouble with the drain holes causing the back shelf to keep flooding quite frequently. He kept taking it back to BMW to have the drain channels cleared out but they were pretty useless and just kept on saying "yep...they all do that..." offering up pretty little help other than to keep attempting to clear the channels, so he ended up fashioning his own tool to clear them out and eventually got p'd off with the rear shelf flooding he got rid of the car...so check that issue has been sorted out. Shame, was a nice car other than that.

FIL has one of the 4 series hard tops. Lovely car though it is a diesel which kind of spoils it. Not had any issues with it leaking and it works well.
