Got three days up in Innerleithen before ardrock this year planning on two days in golfie and a day in thornielee. Got a couple of loops from trail forks that I'm hoping to follow. Are there any trails I should be aiming for or any areas I'm missing. I like steep technical riding over flow

Thank you

Not a bad trail at Golfie, not all that steep though…

Trail forks shows you the steepness but in addition i suggest

Full avalanche
2nd Base
Spanner
Liver damage
New big baw

Ive not ridden yet but friends recommend

Nae spleen
Trevor
Hangover

A trail fairy plan at Glentress is nice and steep, must be a few other off piste nearby as well

Timc has hit most of the steeper stuff, but wolf of wall street is also worth a shout. On the uplift side there is date night, second date and pro spacker. At thorni, pretty much all the trails past the lower fire road are steep. Helter skelter and Nemesis in particular.

Slight thread highjack rather than starting another Golfie thread - opposite to what the op is looking for would I be correct in thinking Flat White, NYNY and Big Baw were at the other end of the steepness gauge and good starting trails for an introduction to Golfie?

Edit: just noticed Big Baw is in timc’s steep list

Flat White isn't steep.

Big Baw isn't steep but it's very technical.

Big Baw is the flattest trail over there but not always the easiest to ride.
It can be pretty tricky when it's greasy.
NYNY is always a good start for first timers over there.

If you want steep, go 5 minutes down the road to Thornielee. These trails are some of, if not the steepest trails in the valley.

Sorry for another hijack but is there much to do in Inners or Peebles when you're not riding?

We were thinking of spending a few days up there with the Mrs and a 1 year old. I'd sneak out for a few hours on a morning then come back for family stuff. Not sure if they'd be bored though while I'm out scaring myself on silly trails.

For a more gentle intro to Golfie, I would suggest

NYNY
Dances with Wolves
Flat White
Right Side Clyde
Greg Jollifies
Repeat Offender

As others have said, Big Baw is pretty flat, but there is barely a section of trail that's not covered in rocks or roots. In the dry it can get very fast! When it's greasy it can be quite challenging too, especially the rocks. Absolutely amazing trail though and probably running better than it ever has. If you manage Big Baw, I strongly suggest the disgusting push up to Feed the Pony. Not an overly difficult trail, but very long and physical. It's an absolute cracker though.

Was up there last weekend.

You don't really need to "plan a route" on either the Golfie or Traquair, as there's basically only 1 way back up in each area - its the very definition of "winch 'n' plummet"

Hangover and 2nd base are both pretty steep. Big Baw isn't but IS rough. Sadly Boner and Waterworld are shut at the mo. Avalanche may suit too. Not done No Social.

Over the other side Matador has some steep sections (and also the biggest stunts), Prospacker is full on, but a bit out of the way.

Easier stuff - Flat White, Dances with Wolves (use the further entrance), then NY, NY and Repeat Offender. Angry Sheep and Green Wing are the classic "easier" trails over the Traquair side, but compared to the Golfie, I think Gold & Cresta runs both feel quite relaxed too.

I'd maybe suggest a day at Inners, a day at the Golfie and a half day at Thornielee/half day at Golfie or GT off piste.

You certainly could do two or three full days at the Golfie, but variety is the spice of life.

Also, do check Date Night / Second Date at Inners if you're after steep trails. Also you'd like Bart's Trail (if open) and might want a go at Pro-Spacker (very hard, defeated me).

Don't forget you can uplift on the Inners side. Bart's is dead though, unfortunately.
