Got 3 days in Wales in march. Camping in dolgellau. Spending one day in coed y brenin. Looking for recommendations for the other two days. Not been in a few years. Have no interest in bike parts and up lifts for this trip. 20/30k looks, nice single-track, good views etc. was thinking penmachno, Mach loop, Nant y arian, old Marin loop?
Nant y arian - the centre seems to be closed most days but still awesome riding
Penmachno is very wet
Marin, really good even this time of year
take your pick
As above, Gwydir (Marin) is great and also has good off-piste if you like that sort of thing.
Pont Scethin is a good ride out in the hills.
The Cli-Machx trail at Corris is pretty good and there's tons of off-piste to go at around it.
I did the Cli-Machx trail last summer after about 12 years since I last did it and I couldn't get over how good it is on a modern mountain bike. I remember hating it when I was rattling around it on my 26inch XC hardtail but a 140mm full suspension bike it's so much fun!
Nant y Arien is also brilliant, as is the Raven trail in Brechfa or if you want a good XC loop then Elan valley is a great day out
Marin is way over rated. Its just sentiment why people still rate it and isn't backed up by anything. Apart from the last trail back to the car park there is virtually no reward for all the climbing. Much better out there. Pen Machno is 100 times better. Show me somewhere you ride this time of year where you won't get wet.
If it’s a clear day the Cader Idris up and down is worth it for something different.
I really enjoy Nant Yr Arian every time I go. Although the climb in the middle is a pig.
Elan valley? Lots of amazing xc routes in mid wales!
