My ti456 isn't needed back at px and isn't going to get repaired (I checked with enigma,  its not financially effective)

It's not going as wall art,  my wife says so. Not here anyway.

Any other ideas welcome, or else I guess it's landfill.

If wall art is out, what about ceiling art?

My broken ti frame adorns the garage wall at the moment, not the house.

FiberFix (now FiberWeld) and make it into a titanium tubed-carbon fibre lugged kids bike/BMX/MBB recumbent/etc.

In Bourg D’Oisans at the foot of Alpe D’Huez there’s a shop that has sawn through frames top and down tubes and then mounted the front end on an outside wall as something to hang signs on… reckon you could alternatively hang a hanging basket outside from the down tube?

Seat tube, seat and chain stays makes a stool.

Or pop it on eBay or something, see if anyone who thinks they can fix it wants it

I dunno, I think it’s more the way it is now than it’s ever been. 🤷🏼

And bugger the finances! It’s a Ti456, there must be someone out there in the STW universe who’s got the means who could weld it?

One advantage of my Inbred hooligan hardtail - the bloody thing’s so overbuilt being run over by a loaded 50 tonne truck is all I can imagine breaking it.
I really must get the thing out of the shed and get it running…

I've got it!  Wind chime.  Does ti ring?  It springs so... gotta be worth a try...no?

Most tubes will ring, even bamboo sections made into wind chimes, although in my opinion, bamboo sounds more like chickens clucking.

There’s a formula for making wind chimes that actually form a chord, or key, something like that, but you need a lot more tube than a bike frame has; whatever, it sounds (eyeroll) like a neat idea, if the frame is beyond salvation, then go for it.

Yes research needed.... I'd assume the sound/ notes from a single tubular bell depend on wall thickness,  length, diameter,  material properties such as stiffness..... it would need to be hung at the right distance from the open ends... and the set of bells in a chime make maybe a minor chord of some kind.   I'm unlikely to get all that right but if I can melee something vaguely tuneful...bamboo ones aren't really that imv... yes I'll do I bit of research.

Frame is dead.  Quote to repair I got from enigma was £600.  Its because of where its cracked,  its awkward,  5 hours work.

What’s wrong with the frame?

The top tube of my (steel) Cotic Soul was cut out and is used as breaker bar by Marcus Stitz's mechanic.

@thekingisdead it's cracked.  PX are honouring the warranty and have been great so all good there.  They don't want the frame back so it's mine to dispose of.   With alu frames I've cracked I've put them in the recycling,  but I don't think the council would recycle titanium. So I'm just trying to be more imaginative than dropping it in the landfill.

If you're asking for details on the crack.  The 456 has a forward facing slot on the seat tube ending just above the top tube, possibly too close and in the heat affected zone.   The crack is a fatigue crack due to leverage of the seat post (as a chartered engineer that's my view,  its also enigma's). Its started at the bottom on the slot and run just above the top tube weld,  around the seat tube and has just reached the top of the weld to the chainstay.

Enigma have quoted for a proper repair,  cutting out a piece of the seat tube, welding in fresh and also shimming.   I'd not be surprised if the repair would leave the frame better.  However it's a 5 hours work as it's a tricky repair.

Could it just be welded up and dressed? Given its on top of 2 welds and the leverage stresses would remain...I won't bother spending money on a temporary repair like that.

Like I said, perfect candidate for a carbon/titanium MBB recumbent project:

If it has been a good and faithful frame I would build a barrow on the garden and give it a proper pagan burial with grave goods

Lamp?

Shower? Use the front triangle fit the shower head in the bottom hs cup?

Rear triangle into a bog roll holder?

Garden gate?

Wall Art in your shed/workshop/garage etc.

That's where my 456ti frame will end up once there's no life in it.
