So, applied for another job a few weeks back and had an interview with person who would be my boss plus HR a week ago.
I have been invited back for a 2nd interview, but this time no HR, only the person who would be my boss plus a peer of my new boss - but still a member of the broader team I would be working in.
Firstly, I am taking this as a positive sign, but not sure if I need to do something different this time.
Help!
I'd suggest what you did the first time did well enough to get you the 2nd interview, so keep doing that.
Hopefully just a formality and job offer, and to ask salary expectations etc.
Best of luck mate.
Have a bank of questions ready. Ones which show you understand their business, and are interested/want to get stuck in.
Do not do your elephant impression. Keep it zipped up.
Well done, you're probably one of the final 2 or 3 candidates all of whom could be offered the job, don't assume it's a done deal.
Focus on showing how well you'd work as part of the company and team rather than the 'technical' elements of being able to do the job. They want to assess how well you'd fit into their team. Try and work up a few examples of good and bad projects and your personal contribution. Also, make sure you have some good questions for them. Good luck. They'll ask you for your salary/reward exceptions - but the job offer isn't quite on the table.
A couple of my go to general questions are:
- How long have you worked at _____? And what do you enjoy about the it?
- Where do you see the company / team / department (use as appropriate for interviewer position) going over the next 5 years?
I find they show interest in the long term, and wanting to be part of the team.
Good luck
