I'll hopefully be picking up a 2nd hand berlingo this weekend. Likely 9/10 years old with ~100k on the clock looking at whats about.
1.6hdi
Anything I should be on the lookout for?
Isn't the 1.6Hdi a problemtaic engine? Sure I read that somewhere - has a habit of destroying it's turbo IIRC.
Hope not...my 14 plate has that engine...
I think if the oil isn't replaced on time (yearly at minimum) then the turbo can develop issues...
Looks like every berlingo/partner and more have that engine
Yeah, think volvo use it...I think...
not sure on the new mk3 shape but both my mk2 ones needed *consumables* done between 90-110k - like any other 10 year old car to be fair.
Wheel bearings/Exhaust/ springs and Strutt top mounts, rear engine mount.
So worth checking things like that have been done as tbh most french and ford cars are the same.
Running a new shape one now but only has 20k on the clock so cant help with common faults on them
Timing belt on the 1.6 is 10 years or 150k miles..... EITHER OR .... not its done 100k at 10 years so its good to go.
Now thinking it'll be a money hole....
I run a 2009 MK3 B9 on 117k now.
No turbo issues. I change the oil and filter every 6k. That's the way to keep the carbon deposits at bay and stop the turbo feed clogging.
Common issue is the injector seals. Get it warm and listen for a chuffing noise like a steam train. The seals are cheap but is a messy job with gunky sludge carbon build up. Left it can lead to turbo failure as deposits can block the turbo feed!
Mine has had a cam belt change, a battery and two injector seals and that's all in 117k bar tyres and brakes. Sailed through last MOT fine.
You've got to take in account the PSA 1.6 dv6 has been in everything from a Berlingo to a fiesta to a mini. Of course some will be bad but treated right the engine should be ok.
I'll go have a look at the some and see what happens. Suppose there's risk with buying any 2nd hand motor.
There will be one with all the paper work eventually don't just rush for the first one.
Last one I sold the buyer got a deal.
I'd done everything then the wife started using the car to transport kids at work and so we decided to get a newer one.
160K 2.0hdi owner here, oil change £24 including filter.
Yeah but the youngest 2.0hdi is ancient.
My Partner had a cracked heat shield buried somewhere deep in the engine.
It rattled like an old tin can over time. I think the part cost cost £7 and £300 to fit and that was about ten years ago.
Just turned up the radio and kept driving.
I've got a sort of rattle/rumble when I go over stutter bumps...sounds like something is a wee bit loose, but I can't see anything obvious when car is stationary.
Could be something in car, glove box or compartment behind steering wheel but I suspect it is from front end of car.
Might be tyre pressure...maybe too hard.
