Every day more and more .......
It'll never catch on I tell thee 😆
It does make me chuckle to myself that some of the haterz are now loverz.
Four years ago road bike talk was taboo, now common as muck on STW. My guess is that in four years time 29'ers will be common as muck on here.
I don't get why people are so polarized....is it immaturity?

too late...
Apparently mx is the next niche.

Thats how the interbreeding started
I saw my first 29er in the wild yesterday- seems most of them only live in pictures on here, not on the trails.
Here's a wild 29er for you then.

Every time you post a pic of that bike Hugor i think you've broken your saddle.
What on earth is it, looks like a witches nose?
My 5th 29er is sat in the lounge now looking pretty and i'm at the stage where i'll have to sell the existing SS Inbred to make some room. I've been 29er since 2008 now and certainly won't be going back.
I read on 29inches that there is going to be a new push for 650b this year (and RS making some specific forks for them) so maybe they are trying to get rid of those little 26" bikes altogether?

That's my Selle SMP.
It looks ugly but stops the important bits going numb on epics.
Blimey, at that price i'd rather my nuts went numb..... 😉
Funny how some view one as superseding the other, I think each wheel size has it's place. Which is why I want one of each 😉
it'd catch on quicker on the correct forum 😉
everyone knows that 29gnar riders are self absorbed attention seeking tossbags anyway
*raspberry*

totally agree with this
29ers for bridleways
normal size wheels for proper mountainbiking
It's just bikes
You sit on them,
you pedal them,
You ride them.
Done.
+ 1 rocketdog 🙂
If i ever change my inbred (not likely for a couple of years) i might be tempted to give one a chance. Seems like they are no longer just for lanky types.
...infact if i can find a cheap ss one second hand....
Same size frame fit as a 26"?

Big wheels, better grip. Got me up some slippery climbs today 🙂
thing is, 29ers probably aren't as obvious as they used to be and harder to spot, since they worked out how to make them look like normal mountain bikes
rusty trowel - that's a 16" Scandal and I had a 16" Inbred, so expect the same size. I'm 5'7" with a 31" inside leg and I was worried I'd feel a bit dwarfed by it. In fact the changes I had to make for my second ride were to fit a slightly longer stem and move the saddle back a bit. I don't think it looks weird in that size either.
Cheers druidh, I've got a 16" inbred and had a 16" 456. 5'10" with long monkey arms and short arse 30" inside leg. 😀
Sturider - Very nice indeed!

U r awsum.
Can i have your autograph please.
heh heh heh.
29ers seem to be the future for xc trail riding.
No. Seriously have you got a signed pictures or something?
You must be a STW Expert that we could all learn a lot from. 😆

Er when did they do that then?
There again I bet it's the same opinion as folk have who think riding a road bike and actually admitting to it, is cool.
They look wrong. (29ers)
End of.
Actually, I reckon the 29er will be best for proper mountainbiking while the 26er will be relegated to trail centres.brakes - Member

derek.
What about the 29er that you're importing?
Is that not awsum?
You must be mistaking me for some other derek.
One that hasn't a clue.
No.
You are the derek i'm thinking of that doesn't have a clue. 😆
So let's get this straight, you, by your own admission someone weird who rides a bike without gears in a world of plenty, is somehow suggesting er I have no clue.

Nice try at trying to change the subject but as it goes i sometimes ride with gears and sometimes ride without.
But I never have to get rescued by the coastguard or slag off a type of bike that my own company imports. 😆
So you're not going to recomend the 29er Bandit to me then?
Shame as i have been looking at it as a possible replacement for my last remaining 26er.
Oh well plenty of other people that will want my money. 😉
replacement for my last remaining 26er
just think of the burden that will be lifted when you get rid of it and can stop pretending that you are a proper mountain biker
They look wrong. (29ers)
maybe, maybe not.
have you seen the 'anyone got a kona honzo?' thread that's bumping along at the moment?
you can see Mrtall's honzo on it, it looks ace.
just think of the burden that will be lifted when you get rid of it and can stop pretending that you are a proper mountain biker
I don't pretend to be anything other than myself*. 😉
You should try it. It's quite liberating. 🙂
*Someone that rides loads of different bikes
Druidh, that looks familiar, G Glen?
dug - much closer to home...
Maidens 🙂
I'm still considering selling my new road bike and getting a light rigid 29er with some thinner tyres on it. So far I'm not really getting on with the roadie (doesn't seem as fun as it used to be) and feel like a 29er would be a good compromise to link bridleways and roads for local riding. CX seems a bit too far biased to the road side for my tastes.
Was kind of sparked by seeing this Cielo, didn't realise they made them look that good!
I'm probably gonna go to that Rutland Cycles 29er day to see what all the fuss is about.
Tom, one of those new Genesis 29gnars sounds ideal for that

1st. I've never been rescued by a coastguard, nor the RNLI for that matter.
2nd I don't actually sell bikes personally, but I'm sure if I did and you expressed an interest, as a salesman i'd be stupid to try and disagree with you. Now if you want a pair of gloves, I do sell them now and again, and ladies handbags. 😉
3rd I'm told, by people who know these things, that if you absolutely have to look ridiculous on a mountain bike with silly big wheels, then the Transition Bandit 29er is at least designed with the task of a)Riding Trails well and b)Trying to retain an air of kewellness about the rider, probably a tough call in your case. 😉
No chance of a Transition Fatbike then derek?
Tom, one of those new Genesis 29gnars sounds ideal for that
Aren't they cx bikes?
No
There was an interesting write-up in Dirt on 29ers. Even they reckon it is the way forward for trail bikes. Yet to try one myself but my interest is properly piqued.
Trying to retain an air of kewellness about the rider
If you think riding a pushbike* makes you look kewell you really are clueless. 😀
*of any wheel size.
I rather like that Cielo, looks fast.
Yep 29 ers are great but they do not give you that hooligan appeal that a 26 er hardtail or a 140 trail bike IMHO.
i might create a forum with that name 🙂
I bought a lovely Serotta off a chap from this here forum in 09 or was it 08 ? Can't remember, anyhoo, rode it for a month in scotland and enjoyed it. Had bought it as an experiment with the view that I'd bring it back here and sell it if i wasn;t into it. All my mates were aghast when i got back and ridiculed me - of the 7 that did 6 now ride 29ers ! I don't think there is any major mystery about it and the new shapes etc all seem to be more proportioned and better to ride.
