Looking to buy a monitor for my son for gaming but which I'd also like to use for looking at construction drawings.

Anything better than this for the money?

Gigabyte G27Q 27 Inch IPS QHD (2560 x 1440) 1ms 144 Hz FreeSync Compatible Gaming Monitor

LG and Samsung panels seem to get good reviews. I’m looking to get something to replace a failing, old Samsung LCD that I use and will be looking at those two unless I can get a better recommendation.

Monitors generally, especially gaming ones, do seem to be expensive though.

That looks like a decent choice, though there's a slightly different model which seems cheaper and better for gaming: https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/gigabyte/m27q

Not too sure what the difference is but the M27Q apparently has better refresh rate and response times.

I have 2 of these and think they are brilliant for gaming and work. Not the best at anything, but good at most things and ultra wide is much nicer for a lot of games and allows you to put 2 windows side by side for work. They were on sale for £280 recently, I bet there will be some good black Friday deals on them.

Can you let me know what you think when it turns up? Want to see what it is like.

I had this issue a couple of months ago and only went for the LG 27GL850 due to price but it seems the gigabyte is cheaper right now. I was actually comparing the monitor you linked and the LG one.

handy comparison - source

I've been super happy with the LG so far, only issue is backlight bleed but both monitors suffer from that.

Seems good so far for drawings. Just need my son to put it through the ringer with gaming at Xmas.

It has speakers which is a bonus. Otherwise I think the M27Q would have been a better choice.

I found my credit card yesterday and let loose on a new LG. Went for the 27GP850-B as I found one for cheap. It will _hopefully_ be turning up today, maybe tomorrow.

Sorry, but 29" really makes the games come alive.
