It was going to be a tour of the northern Italian lakes and prosecco
trail in a Maserati.

The car is on hold and Northern Italy is out of the question so...

Sainsburys special ready meal and a bottle of bubbly.

Any better suggestions?

Date night, order food, get dressed up, something sparkling as a present.

Italy will still be there next year, and 26 is 1 better than 25 so its like turning it up to 11!

No idea.

I’m in the same boat. Both The Wife & I’s 50th Birthday this year and also our 25th Wedding anniversary. We were due to go to Rome at the end of May.

I was going with the fish and chips and a can of vimto. But the chip shop is closed.

Sainsburys special ready meal

Surely you can rustle up something better yourself?

I can indeed. I was starting with the bar set low so you could come up with marvellous suggestions 🙂

Trouble is, she is a trained cook so whatever I do will be a slight disappointment but I guess that probably reflects 25 years of marriage to me so maybe

You're mind is obviously in the gutter when it comes to selecting cuisine for a special moment

Oysters by the bucket load, Barry White on the gramophone and do your best Swiss Tony impression.
Let us know how you get on.....(not literally).

How about an all day Italianate appetiser.

You'll need cake and milky coffee for breakfast.

Risotto for lunch

Spritz at 3pm

Three courses or more of Italian food for dinner.

Italian beer/wine and fizz throughout the day as necessary.

And congratulations on reaching the Silver Milestone.

Congratulations WCA.
More congratulations to Mrs_WCA.

I'm in the same position in August, 25 years and wondering what to do...

Wine - I’m sure every town has a little wine merchant that will deliver some good wine. Can you get a bottle or 2 that’s a 1995 vintage?
Food - Are any fine dining restaurants doing deliveries? We’ve got a couple in Brum that are doing luxury food boxes that are are cracking. If you’re cooking then leave the posh stuff to her and do some good, homely feel good food.
And as above, do it properly, get dressed up, get the candles out and try and make it a wee bit special.

We had just done my 50th in Prague in Jan. 25th Wedding Anniversary in August. Was also going to be Italy. Oh well, and our chippy is shut. The family run Italian restaurant is doing deliveries.

Maybe talk to your local Italian restaurant. They may be up for doing a meal, wine, even some Italian props etc delivered to you. Be great publicity for them.

Okay, we are going for a pamper day for her.

Once she has brought me my morning espresso in bed I shall allow her to relax in the hot tub while I bring her chilled delicacies as she takes lunch.

As the evening arrives I will prepare <insert simple but nice meal here> with a glass of fizz.

We shall dine over candle light and enjoy a Limoncello or perhaps a brandy as we watch the sun go down.

Suggestions please for a reasonably quick to prepare meal - I need to do it without her coming in and helping/taking over. I needs to look good and taste good. I am thinking possibly something seafood and oven baked but am open to your suggestions

I would go for a reasonably complicated to prepare meal – allowing her to come in and take over so it looks good and taste good.

Fresh pasta and a sauce, needs some ability with scheduling timings to have pasta ready 3/4 minutes and the sauce cooked too.

We did this last weekend NB use more than half the tomato amount as it was a tad sparse

possibly something seafood

I don't know what your local supply is like but seafood here currently means white fish or salmon. Nowt else on the shelves.

So, on the basis of easy to do from readily lockdown available ingredients

10 minutes:

Salmon (smoked straight from the pack or poached/baked in advance and flaked) and asparagus with spaghetti (there's plenty of fresh stuff in the supermarket just minimal dried.)
White wine sauce (something like this https://www.popsugar.co.uk/food/Spaghetti-Pasta-Garlic-White-Wine-Sauce-Recipe-42928353 though I'd ditch the thyme for sage if you can get fresh and cut back the garlic a bit if using fresh not smoked salmon)
