You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Maintained this week. Good exercise week including 43 mile and 20 mile hilly gravel rides, a few Zwift sessions and a run. However an average week food wise. Had a couple of takeaways including last night after daughter had a good parents evening and she got to choose what we had for dinner. That’s going to happen though and trying to make this more of a lifestyle change so just need to moderate and hopefully keep the overall trend moving down.
Down 0.8 from last week which is great, and well on track if I just keep this up and try and be consistent. Had a massive weekend on the bikes last weekend so had to eat quite a bit more to fuel it all, which seemed to impact my weight loss pretty badly for the first couple of days this week but luckily it's dropped again in the last few days.
I definitely do find it pretty hard to balance fuelling enough for rides while still aiming for weight loss, because at some point or another you're going to bonk and it's going to suck. As long as I can hit my target and then keep the weight off by the spring, I'll feel much better about doing big successive days on the bike over the summer without having to worry too much about what I'm eating.
Likewise not the best week, heavy weekend on the food front although I did ride both days. Then 3 days in Denmark for work getting up at 3am on Monday, so been tired all week and eating in restaurants. Knew it wouldn't be great but still lost some weight. Need to up my game next week.
Down a decent 1.3Kg this week, based on the scales this morning. However I was lighter yesterday.
Pleased with that - had a bad Saturday with too much eating and drinking, but made up for it the rest of the week.
Also, starting to see my abs come through just a little bit. BEEFCAKE!
Also finding it easier walking up stairs or riding uphill. Well pleased I got my act together this time around.
Down a bit but still more than my starting weight. Had a late tea last night though.
Same weight this week, which I'm fairly pleased about - been crazy busy at work, busy every evening, has meant no proper exercise and more snacking than is good for me.
small loss, but a few nights out were worth it.
Really pleased this week as I missed my 5 week target last week and earned my first red background despite losing a bit every week.
This week I seem to have has a "woosh" and am back on track for the original target.
Up a bit - but basically flat-lining. Am expecting better next week as I've actually started to take it more seriously
Down by .5kg this week. i was really sweating not meeting my target weight or getting an orange on the board, but in the last week or so i'm noticing a massive difference in my running where i'm now not dying for the entire run and am happy to find new routes to go a little further.
That combined with noticing that my jeans are looser around the waist means i'm doing something right even if it's not all shown in my overall weight and that in itself is another confidence booster to keep going.
No loss or (surprisingly) gain this week
Down 1.5kg this week and 11.5kg since starting using Noom in mid December. Still got a long way to go but decent progress so far.
Well! After doing so well, weight coming down nicely, seeing great improvements in blood pressure, eating right, more exercise, really feeling quite good about myself, had a huge blip this week. My Daughter tried to self harm last Sunday (she is 10, first time) and it really shook me, unfortunately its put me right in the bad old lifestyle I was used to, drinking every night, takeaways every other night, crisps for breakfast (yup!) and no exercise at all. Gone up 1.6kg in the week and dread to think what the BP readings will be.
Its weird how such a incident has changed what I was doing for the worse, and need to think to myself why. Even now typing this out I'm having a bottle and a curry is on the way 🙁
And just to top it off the Gout has come back today as well, I'm having a grand old week!!
* Daughter does not live with me although see her every day - she is fine btw, seeking help through the school etc
That's rough Ian, try to stick to the new regime despite what's going on in life not because of it. At least that will give you something positive to focus on.
After just maintaining last week, lost another 1kg this week. That’s a stone off since Xmas and 10lb since the start of this in Jan.
Slight increase back to 87kg.
I may have to resort to cutting a limb off to make my target weight
No change for me this week, i'm taking that as a win.
Just noticed Ian's post from last week, sorry to hear that Ian that's got to be a suckerpunch to have to go through. And a shitty week counterbalanced by some comfort food is not the end of the world, the main thing is you were aware of the changes in diet etc and the trigger causing it. I hope all is well with your daughter and you had a better week.
Progress has slowed, last week was bad due to working abroad, seems this week is about shrugging off the effects of last week. Need a good weekend to get back on track.
96.3 yesterday so 0.2 up. Don’t mind at all though for a few reasons. Overall I am sticking to my plan and looking at my weight loss graph since 2020 when I was at my heaviest I’ve come down slowly but surely and with the odd plateau along the way.
I got under 110kg and hovered around, then 105, then floated around 100, then sub 100 etc. but the weight has stayed off and I’ve not shot back up like I have in the past so this is slow but sustained loss.
I feel so much better and am running so much better. I did 15.2k in 90 mins the other week as part of my half marathon training. A distance in that time I didn’t think I’d ever achieve.
I had a relaxed week with food and a big meal Weds. it takes me 24-48 hours to get a big feed out of my system so to speak.
I know what my weight is today and taking into account the point immediately above it’s a fair bit lighter than my official Friday weigh in 🙂
The headline for me is as of today I have lost 19kg since Jan 2020. Back then given my mental and physical health my weight could have gone either way. I’d stacked on 10-15kg very quickly and could have lost control altogether and headed toward 120-130kg plus but I didn’t.
83.8
Down a tiny bit, but feeling fitter and running further
I'm back up above my starting weight, 83kgs. Don't know what's going on as I'm eating reasonably well, doing a reasonable amount of exercise and my fitness is going in the right direction thanks to doing one of the Zwift training plans. I'm doing the same as I did last year and the weight pretty much evaporated, this time it's creeping up and just refusing to budge at all.
Back on track this week, been hard though, really had to cut down on the calories, at the point I feel hungry most of the time which isn't fun. Nearly 10kg down from when I started to pretty pleased overall.
After going up last week and back going in the right direction.
Down to 80.6 from over 81 last week.
Have been doing well with having a reasonable break between dinner and breakfast. I have essentially cutout snacking in the evening which would be a 100g plus bar of chocolate. I am trying to get in the habit of occasionally feeling hungry and that being ok instead of constantly eating.
There was quite a good video from GCN about one of the presenters getting healthier and stronger and how he did it and it was a lot of very manageable pieces of advice. Will post if I can find it
I havent joined in because i lost a chunk in second half of 2022 (13kg) and had stopped losing weight regardless of good diet and exercise. Just didnt want to keep reminding myself it had stopped.
However due to injury i had to have a couple of weeks off. I eat very poorly when i am not active and it didnt go well for me.
But what i found was that regardless of the eating, my weight didnt just shoot back up again. The change in my bodies makeup must be better now and the rest has probably done me some good. Nearly finished my 1st week back on the weights and feel really good. Still no weight loss but feeling like i can attack it again.
Just because you are not seeing the gains on the scales doesnt mean eating better and exercising more isnt improving you.
Up 1kg for me. I'm around my original weight which is good. Found the chocolate biscuit aisle again at the supermarket, which isn't good.
Dropped half a kilo this week, to 86.4kg. Week off work, lots of cafes and treats, so better than expected
I tend to just pop into this and previous year CC threads, so here I am again...
I became ridiculously addicted to hot cross buns and chocolate raisins in the last ~4 years. Having dropped from ~95Kg to ~73Kg between summers '16 and '17, I found it increasingly difficult to even get under 80Kg since the pandemic started. I hit 79.9Kg very briefly in September '22, but then got Covid and piled on the pounds.
Now I'm struggling to get under 87Kg, when I dearly want to get back to my previous norm of no more than 82Kg. I've ditched the weekly pack of hot cross buns and handful of choc raisin bags, but all it's done is made me reach for my old evening snacks, in the form of sandwiches and bowls of cereal.
Trying to resist the major carb cravings over winter like many Seasonal Affective Disorder sufferers get and eating less so my stomach shrinks is a nightmare... Looking back I don't know how the heck I managed to be so ruthless while losing ~22Kg six years ago.
2lb off. Back into the 80’s kgs which is a nice milestone. Next step is to lose another couple of pounds and be in the 13s in stones.
Is it too late to join...?
After 3 Fridays of very stagnant weight I've finally made some progress with over an extra kg off. Daily weigh ins once again saving my sanity because if I just stuck to weekly weighs I probably would have given up. Very close to my goal now but I think I'll keep going down to 77kg (170lbs). After that I think I'll start hitting the weights again and put some muscle back on.
I seem to have gained 1.5kg this week. I think my scales may be playing up, I demand a recount!
83.7kgs this week up from 83.1kg last week. But i've been ill most of the week so had no exercise and haven't eaten the best.
Back in green after a few weeks of minimal loss (ie a few nights out more than usual & little exercise). Not far from target so a bit of focus should help.
Nearly back where I started. Sigh.
(TBF though it’s been a family holiday over half term and then a work conference, neither of which are particularly amenable to healthy eating…)
Count yourself lucky, I'm struggling to keep just above my starting weight! Doesn't help that I had a car crash on the way to work this week and the resulting rest and pain medication means I'm inactive and retaining water, hence the creep up to 83.3kg. That's 0.6 up on my start weight and 1.3kg up on my lowest on week 1.
Had a bad weekend last weekend, did ok during the week so ended up down. It's the weekends that are killing me, whilst I'm still losing weight it would be coming off a lot faster without weekends. Going to try hard to avoid the temption to treat myself this weekend and maintain the downward trend into next week rather than spending Monday and Tuesday recovering from a weekend binge.
This health kick is getting expensive, bought 2 pairs of Endure FS260 PRO shorts last week (were 50% off so it would have been rude not to), road bike chain is tipping 0.75% stretch so off to replace that and my ancient Hope light battery has stopped holding charge so that needs replacing.
@stumpyjon I feel your light pain - have an ancient R4 with a dodgy power cable which needs replacing…
@ratherbeintabago LBS nicely sorted me out, allowed me to test my light with a variety of new batteries, then knocked 10% off the list price as I'm a long standing customer. List price was comparable to online prices so I got it cheaper than online, plus got face to face support and a good natter and catch up.
Bet Hope will sort the power cable for free, their customer service is legendary.
Big up to RideOn in Rawtenstall, everything an LBS should be.
One week to go and down very nearly 2Kg from start, but way off target.
Jazz wave everyone and good luck, it's like a rollercoaster.
Nearly to target, I Kg down but my god the last few weeks have been hard.
82.2kg for me this week which is a tad up from last week. But after a week of being ill and a few weeks of kitchen renovation meaning no exercise and eating whatever food is to hand as everything is boxed up i'm ok with it. I did manage to squeak under 82kg at one point on an unofficial mid week weigh in, but not eating much and mild dehydration from working all day and not stopping felt like cheating and not a healthy approach to weight loss...plus it was shot to b*ggery the next day when we had a takeaway for dinner!
Heavier than my starting weight, 2kg heavier than than my lowest weight in this period.
Keep at it MCTD, hopefully the hard work will pay off eventually at the gains will show. for all who have given this a go you have my upmost respect for putting yourself out there with both the ups and the downs. It's been a suckerpunch at times seeing the scales and wondering where all my hard work had gone, but joining in this years Chub Club has been the catalyst for mental change and it's something i'm going to be conscious of beyond the 12wks. I hope that whatever the scales say for you this holds true for you too and i'll be cheering you on from the sidelines in all your efforts
Edit: i hope that came across as supportive and not preachy
84.6kg this week, just putting on weight thanks to meds and other stuff decimating my free time. This week has been particularly tough with long days in work and really long commutes home so have had no time to cook at home, ate a lot of crap and still been hungry!
Week off work next week but got lots of family stuff to take care of so no time to relax, definitely won't help with reversing the trend upwards.
1kg off target- could be tough going in 1 week but hopefully be close.
Damn it.
Last seen to have bounced close to where I was 2 months ago!
On Friday we had a go live of a 2 year project which has meant long days and I tend to eat crap when stressed. No time to train Loki’s stress is a bad combination for me! On top of that, last ash day I had a 100k ride which all went pretty well. At the end I had a snack and was planning on eating a proper meal at home. Walked in the door and daughter had done her ankle in on the trampoline so spent the next 4 hours in a and e with no food or water.
When I don’t eat properly after a big ride I am hungry for days and so I basically ate all the food I got my hands on.
Was out last night for wedding anniversary dinner.
Hopefully a a lot of it is water etc and will come down after a bit of discipline for a couple of weeks!
I didn’t join the STW chub club this year, but have been following a coached diet/exercise plan called The Sixpack revolution (hate the name but love the programme)
It is 75 days, and I’m 2 weeks to go. They tell you not to weigh yourself, as it’s about body shape and fitness rather than weight. Obviously I did though! So far 2 stone down and much fitter/stronger.
Basic concept is 6 meals a day of clean eating, with nutritionally balanced meals. Incrementally building daily exercises - started at 10 press-ups a day, currently up to 100 daily. Strength based not cardio.
I found I needed a structured programme and it has really worked so far.
3 weeks of stagnation is a bit disappointing but my fitness is continuing to improve. I’ve had a few big rides and felt really good. Also ran a 5 mile loop in 8:50/mile pace that I was running at 10:00/mile at the start of this. I think I have taken my foot off the gas a bit with my diet. Need to be more strict with myself. I’m not going to make target which was a 10kg loss, but I’m still happy with progress.
Half way there and definitely living on a prayer.(Aimed for 5kg - achieved 2.5)
Good luck on the final scores folks.
Crept back up to 82.4 which is disappointing, but understandable after three weeks of eating badly due to no kitchen and no exercise due to renovating said kitchen. Along with my running I'm giving myself an extra three weeks into April to reach my targets, and hopefully continue the mindset way into the year.
As Wally said, good luck all
Didn't get all the way down but got within a kg and lost 5kg overall which I'm super happy with, especially since it was my birthday a couple of weeks ago and my girlfriend and I polished off about 1 and a half chocolate cakes between us. Got in a good routine now and looking to lose another 2.5kg over the next month or two and I'll be super happy and ready for summer!
0.5kg off target, but lost 7.5kg overall. Hopefully got in to better food habits (less snacking) to help get to target and a bit lower in coming months, then maintaining.
Dropped below target for a few weeks but having spent only 2 nights at home so far in March my diet and exercise have been a bit to pot and climbed back up to 81. Still very pleased with having got under 80 at all and, all being well, should get rid of some of the excess when things are back to normal over the next few weeks.
Missed my target but down 4 kg so happy with that. Seem to have plateaued last few weeks so will need to change something. Other than eat less cake any suggestions?
Other than eat less cake any suggestions?
Picolax on your cake?
Oh well, that's that then. Looking back i'd given myself a completely unrealistic target weight to begin with - what i'd like to be instead of what i could realistically lose. I'll be 56 in April and to be honest i've found it hard to shift weight the last few years, but i've nearly a stone down since the start and still losing every week, so i'm still quite chuffed. Hopefully i can push on now and lose the rest.
Well done everyone.
I think I'm pretty much the same weight as when I started. Not dropped any weight anyway. I might start to lose a bit during summer as I'll probably be more outdoor active and eat more salad 🤔.
I’ll be 56 in April
Old git! I'm a sprightly (gammy knee notwithstanding) 55 & have lost 10kg since middle of December so it's do-able.
85.1kg finishing weight, a solid increase of 2.4kg. An abysmal showing by myself and only a kilo of my heaviest since the beginning of the pandemic!
All is not lost though, it has opened me up to the fact that my current life situation is really not good for my health, fitness and mental well-being so I have to make changes before the next Chub Club.
Congratulations to everyone who managed to lose something, however small or large!
8kg lost since Xmas and 6kg off since the start of this. That’s despite not losing much at all in the last 4 weeks. So overall really pleased.
I think by far the biggest factor to be honest has been massively reducing my alcohol intake. Had got into the habit of drinking wine at home far too regularly really. Did dry Jan and the weight started coming off steadily. Started drinking again in Feb and found my weight loss plateaued and didn’t really enjoy it as much as before. So basically since then I’ve largely abstained other than a couple of occasions when I’ve been out, which is probably much more how I need to be I think.
My diet has improved too, but not as much as it could’ve. Cutting out the booze has been far easier than treats, but I have tried. Just not done as well with that. Things are going in the right direction though and I’m pretty sure I’m the fittest I’ve ever been at this stage of the year so a nice platform to build on. My Strava fitness score is the same now as it was at the end of last summer.
Only lost 1kg but it's better than putting it on...
As @retrorick says, hopefully as the weather improves...
Missed my target by 1kg but still down an massively fitter. Managed 250 miles of riding so on target for 1000 miles this year which I've never achieved, should get easier to rack up the miles as the weather gets better and the days are longer although I did get out this morning despite the rain and a 20mph head wind so proud of myself for that.
I'm keeping going but under no illusion I need to start reducing calorie intake, exercise and no snacking is going to ct it going forward.
Hello, well done to those that finished this one. There will be a few months break in Chub Chub, to allow you all to get back up to a "health" weight .. Maybe a "Summer Chub Club" is on the cards! - June/July.
I only managed to drop 3kg but at 42 am the lightest and close to the fittest I have probably even been. The best thing I find about this process is finding what works and what's sustainable.
A beer staying as a beers not 6 or 7 and impacting my diet and motivation was the biggest improvement I have made and probably dropped 8-10kg off my weight a few years back.I think this round of chub club the idea of intermittent fasting is going to help me long term. It's common sense but cutting out late evening snacking means I am hungry at breakfast. If I am not hungry because of a late or big meal, I have been skipping breakfast.
Going to have to go back to my fitness pal to track!
Well done all
Ha ha, thanks FB-ATB - respect from one old git to another!
& thanks to coconut for setting this up.
Does anyone (else) fancy carrying on?
I definitely am whether on here or not. We can expand the spreadsheet easily enough.
Now the weather has improved and the dietary horror that was a 10yo's week-long birthday celebrations have passed...
expand the spreadsheet easily enough
With all the conditional formatting? I anticipated you would have formatted it to come up with a message criticising us when the end weight was > target😀
You want more conditional formatting, right ho.
I am keen to carry on.
Knowing the weigh in is coming keeps me honest!
I'll carry on weighing in as well.
The next few months might actually be the months where i begin to make progress.
I've updated the spreadsheet to include another 8 weeks or so, still running off the same weekly target reduction as originally committed to. Worryingly not one of us who kept at it actually hit our goal weight.
Summers coming, nights are longer, time to get out and ride the flab off.
thanks!
Daft question - can I see (well I can't, that's why I ask, but that could easily be me being blind) what I put in as target in the first instance?
EDIT: Ahhhh, formatting thing on sheets on my phone, I can't tell the are hidden columns, nor indeed can I unhide them.
Thanks @stumpyjon
I missed a few weigh ins due to working away, and as a whole slipped off. I've had a good couple of weeks so keen to keep on it.
I'll tweak it further so we can add a new 12 week target.
Bugger, back up 0.5kg
