The one good thing is that it might lead us back to a centrist Labour Party. But then again, maybe not.

In 5 years' time things will be so bad that there'll be a swing back left.

Fantastic, Corbyn rightly crushed.

Along with the vulnerable, poor, disabled and disadvantaged. Put them in their place where they belong eh? Rightly so.

Who’s watching what? I’ve got a choice of Election 2019 or Election 2019 Wales.

I’m watching my mental health/anxiety etc, hiding it from those close to me who need to see and feel unwavering strength and positivity more than I do.

Things may now never be the same again for the UK, but they will be something. Change is best when it is motivating...so makes sense to be motivated towards something better.

Now to watch some MTBing. Onwards and upwards all.

something odd with the exit poll but they are usually withing 10 seats or so because if the tories were going to get a majority they would have to hold at least some of their scottish seats

55 snp? anyone see that? that would mean the snp having 20 gains and scotland being a tory and lib dem free zone ( I cannot see edinburgh south changing hands)

So new leader then. Corbz did well in last election, wheels fell off somewhat this time. Too much in the manifesto, Brexit message not accepted. I wonder if Labout have done better going full on brexit.

This country is screwed, facilitated by a useless Labour leadership

Got to agree, I mean I know the faithful will cry it was the media and if we just read the manifesto we’d all love him, but Corbyn is utterly, utterly useless.

He wants to be gone by breakfast.

Labour need to make a choice between ideology and electability.

“Biggest majority since Thatcher” is terrifying in both senses.

I did expect a slight Tory majority but not that!

It does have me worried - will it embolden the Kippers & ERG or will BJ be able to ignore them & get a less painful Brexit through?

Either way - it’s not looking pretty at all....though I suppose the latter is better than the former....regardless all I see is a lot of pain & that makes me feel very sad for the UK..

If the Exit Poll is to be believed then it’s a total and utter rejection of Corbyn and Momentum.

I never expected such a huge potential tory majority, it’s not even close to my preferred minority government or hung parliament.

Quite depressing really.

Shit.
Maybe the exit poll is wrong. No way can we be worse than the 80's and the days of Foot?

Don't get me wrong I thought the Tories would probably win but not by that much...

As I left the house tonight to head to the polling station, my 5 year old daughter looked at me and pleaded for me to vote for a new Prime Minister. I asked her why, she sorrowfully said she didn't like Boris. Sadly looks like she will need cheering up in the morning.

I think a lot of people are about to find out what neoliberalism really means. It’ll still be seismic, tbh.

Blame Labour's useless leadership?

If the exit polls are right then I suggest that this conservative majority is down to parliament blocking May's comparatively moderate Brexit deal and has played right into the hands of the extreme Brexiteers.Parliament obstructed the referendum result and the public have responded.Unfortunately I fear we are all now well and truly screwed.

In 5 years’ time things will be so bad that there’ll be a swing back left.

The Tories have at least 10 years now. The boundaries will be redrawn. They’ll have a bill so that they can choose the timing of the next general election. They’ll stack the deck in ways we haven’t even thought about yet. Anyone still thinking this election was just about the next 5 years need a dose of realism.

Don’t pin all this on Corbyn. It’s way more complicated than that. I know you’re pissed off, but really. This whole thing goes back to Thatcher via Blair. Corbyn was the choice of the party because it wants a leftist agenda. So much led us to where we are now, not just Corbyn.

I’m sorry Molegrips but it’s not, he’s give the most repugnant PM since a Thatcher a majority not seen since she was in power.

Labour need a Blair moment, if they wheel out another hardcore socialist they’ll just be less popular.

Sure but the people who'll get screwed over might've voted Labour or not voted at all because they haven't got an address. We didn't all vote Tory. Please remember that.

They have based the exit poll results on asking 24K people in several hundred constituencies and extrapolated to 30+ million votes - that is some weak ass data and incredibly poor resolution. If I presented that at work I would be laughed out of the meeting.

(clutching at straws....)

I suspect if the labour leaving seats are the ones that have gone conservative, it'll mean it wouldn't matter who led labour or what they said. It will be down to leave.

HE did what he was elected leader to do. He couldn't run for leader on a leftist platform then suddenly change his mind to be centrist could he?

This isn't a boxing match, it's about much more than the two leaders.

Agree with Binners, we in the UK do not have a culture of left wing politics of the Corbyn variety. Along with the many more personal reasons to dislike the man and his inner circle, this made this result all but pretty predictable - I said months and months ago that the labour leadership and their dithering would cause a massive backlash.

Can't say we didn't ****ing tell you.

No it was Brexit. Corbyn was trapped on the fence and that cost him. Victim of circumstance, because he made himself into the man who had to respect democracy. Blair won because he was messianic, he did what he wanted to do. Corbyn was never like that and couldn't have been.

Not that hard to argue with binners "logic".
If Labour had come out for remain, as most on here have been asking for, the result would have been different? It would. Con majority would have been bigger.
IF the exit poll is right then Leave voters have come out in force and demonstrated that remainers are in the minority again.
Like others I hope the exit polls are wrong.I fear we will be disappointed.

My feelings exactly. I wrote to my MP despite being a remain voter, asking her to back May's deal because I felt if it didn't go through eventually something worse would. Looks like thats going to happen and she'll probably be out of a job 🙁

So, looking into this data a little more (according to the BBC news feed).

They have asked 23,790 people at 144 polling stations.

The reality is there are 650 seats and 30 odd million voters, how the hell can you take the exit poll seriously??

They have taken the word of the very few people from each polling station who were prepared to tell them who they voted for. That is 165 people at each of the exit polls they surveyed. That is a very small sample and it is very easy to skew the result based on such a small sample size.

Corbyn has failed for much the same reasons that Michael Foot, a generation ago, failed. Nothing to do with Brexit.

It only took Neil Kinnock a decade to sort out the Labour party and get it to the point where Blair could win.

Get ready for 2035!

Utter bollox. Speak for your self and the rest of your tory southern pals. There is a long history of much more radical leftwing thought and politics. Corbyn is not even radical at all. YOu think he is because of the constant media feeding.

Vast swathes of the UK have not voted tory in decades.

What this shows is the malign effects of the biased media and the vile racist attitudes of some. It also shows how dysfunctional our electoral system is.

People don't ****ing care what the conservatives were offering, they knew what they were getting - and many of those who voted Tory seem to have done it through gritted teeth.

It's just that what Labour were offering scared them.

Better the devil you know. Brexit is a known quantity now, Corbynism isn't - and people weren't prepared to take a risk again.
