Can't believe Barnes then said, "yes but lets look at the ball" 🙄

Oh, and although I wish no ill on anyone, the sooner a replacement can be found for Anscombe the better

Good effort by Wales but missed too many chances in the 1st half and NZ too strong in the end.

Uphill from here.....

Yes, great effort though sounded like I missed the better half. NZ just don't look tired at 75-80mins.

First 15 minutes you would have though the team in white was in their pre-season. England all at sea, no game plan, no continuity

Something tells me that playing against NZ and SA opposition in the Super Rugby is pretty decent preparation for playing English players! They're making it look so easy.

Aus have looked great with ball in hand keeping the ball alive exceptionally well. England too look comfortable with the ball and are racking up the points so I guess it will be the age old question of territory and possession despite two very different styles. Lots of injuries for Aus so far too. Looked like a wash at the start but England seem favourites at the moment!

Yep and the temp is rising on the pitch, halftime could be handy for all. The missed conversions will be costly. Would be good to have at least one proper scrum at some stage.

We need to KEEP THE BALL!

The Aussies shred us otherwise.

Brown showing exactly how crap he is.

Can't disagree namestebuzz! He who holds the ball wins the game 🙂 Brown's speed, passing against the last man and tackling have really been shown up. I know he's always been in for flak in those areas but I can't help wondering if the head knocks have taken that extra few % from his game. Not high on confidence anyway and being replaced by Goode would be a real kick in the nuts! As ever, Watson to 15 and bring in another proper speedster

No scaredy, you'll have to find a dodgy stream. And spend more time closing pop-ups than you normally would when browsing STW.

Farrell has had a fantastic game so far. Ford quiet again.
Burrell wasn't subbed because thay wanted ford at 10, he was subbed because they wanted Farrell at 12.

@wrecker Aussie tv was showing how Farrell's error lead to Aussie try, frankly I thought Farrell was anonymous. Look at the scoreline now he's not at 10

Farrell has played a blinder. The difference between the teams is the pack at the moment.
Farrell also largely responsible for Josephs try. Hask for Yardes.

Strange taking off Hartley as Cowna-Dickie's poor throw lost the lineout and could have cost us dearly.

Ford proved he has far more rugby nous than Farrell - making those two tries when the opportunities arose.

Farrell can't be left out because he rarely misses from the tee but let's stop all this crap about "he's the best 10 in Europe" - coz he's not.

Indeed.

Getting on the end of the Joseph break and throwing the ball away in the offload. Missing the tackle on Foley which was luckily called back. Dropping the ball fielding an easy kick. Being too slow and stupid.

You're right. He's brilliant.

Ford did have a nice kick for Nowells try, but I'd still drop him. Gave away a couple of stupid pens, a couple of wayward kicks. He's just not accurate enough at the moment.
I think the future of England is with Slade at 12 and Farrell at 10.
Anyone who can't see that Brown is one of the best 15's in world rugby doesn't understand the game.

A great game of rugby as a supporter. We can count ourselves very lucky Australia where not out of sight beofre Ford came on. Food for thought for Jones on selection and game plan.

If Farrell is in the side its not at 10, he's dull and ponderous and thats the way England are when he's at 10 and we are very easy to play against as we pose a limited threat with the ball.

No, Brown isn't a crap player. He's very good.

At top international level though - he is crap. You want your fullback to be a real gamebreaker. A proper threat with ball in hand. Think Folau, Dagg, Ben Smith, LeRoux, Liam Williams, Hogg etc.

He plays well, tries hard, makes yards etc etc but he doesn't have "it".

He cannot fix a man and give a pass. That alone should be enough to dispense with him.

He doesn't have enough pace. He's improved but it's still suspect. The missed tackle on Foley was partly because he was struggling to get there. Alex Goode has the same problem.

Your fullback frequently is the 2nd last man in attack where extreme pace and the ability to draw the last defender and give the scoring pass are crucial. Brown has cost us several tries in the last 4 years.

Fatty Barnes wrote a good peice in The Times after the Grand Slam saying that if England want to move forward, they need to do so without Brown.

As a short term fixture he's been ok. Long term - no.

Get Watson in there now. He might make some mistakes at first but he'll improve with time at 15 and could be world-class by 2019. If England want to be the best in the world they need to start there.

Brown is a quality 15 but he's not in the same league as Smith. Be a big fight over the Lions 15 shirt with Hogg, Brown, Loopy Liam and maybe a returning 1/2p. Some quality players will not even make the tour!
Talking of actually shit 15's whats the point of Amscombe? About as much use as tits on a snake!

I have no idea what game you were watching jamba. Farrell is miles better at 10 than Ford (presently at least), he just also happens to be our best 12 too (pending slade) which is the only reason Ford is getting so much time.

Cipriani? Anyone?

Farrell is miles better at 10 than Ford

Could he have thrown that long pass for Yarde's try?
Would he have seen the grubber through for Nowell?

(The answers are no and probably not.)

Actually, Cips at 10 and Farrell at 12 would work.

(The answers are no and probably not.)

The answers are both an easy yes. Nothing special at all in that pass and Farrell is a better kicker than Ford is so the X field would be easy for him. It's really quite simple; Farrell is a better rugby player than Ford, regardless of what number is on their backs.

Farrell wouldn't have been as flat as Ford and couldn't have thrown the pass as well as Ford either.

The finer margins apparent and higher skill levels required are within Ford's grasp but slightly beyond Farrell's.

You don't make that kick "because you're a better kicker" - you make it because you have the vision to see the possibility and the nous to go for it.

Yes he could. Farrell is perfectly capable of playing flat and of putting players in for trys. He fixes well, as he has shown all season at Sarries. I can't disagree that Ford has perhaps more to natural ability work with but he's been off form all year and hasn't merited his place on the team, where some others have. He plainly doesn't deserve to be on the tour.
Anyways, I think we've done that to death.
Seen this?

Anyhow, back in the real world, we've just beaten a very good Aus side away from home - one of our best results in the last 10 years. For me, it's even better as we started badly and had to adapt.

We should be celebrating not whinging!!

Amazing how so many world class players find it so difficult to tackle our crap 15!!

dantsw13 +1 - I had just finished paying tennis at KO and we watched the first half over coffee. It looked like we were going to be steamrollered. So blood y good away win.

I was still gobsmacked at the late subs - could have bitten us on the backside badly.

[Hogg is a shoe in for Lions 15 - they need one Scot and he isn't a bad player 😉 ]

How is Yarde's defence at club level ? He looked a bit weak defensively to me today.

It will be interesting to see how we line up next week selection wise.

I didn't think Yarde defence was too bad today, for whatever reason the system meant he was outnumbered on the outside a few times but he always seemed to get across and make the tackle.

For those wanting rid of Brown, watch the game from last night and get aboard the Mike Haley bandwagon!

FWIW I am good with Brown as first choice today, I don't see him making it to RWC 2019. If h/p isn't fit/ready he'll go on the Lions tour maybe not as first choice.

I think any lack of tackling on Yardes part was more to do with Kuridrani than Yarde. Such a powerful dude, fantastic rugby player.

Great quote from EJ:

We didn't play well, let's face the facts. We weren't sharp in various areas, but we will be next week. They didn't play well, so whichever side improves the most will win the next Test, and that's going to be us.

What are thread-hive's thoughts on Stander's red?

I'm trying not to see it through green-tinted spectacles, but it seems he was sent off for the outcome rather than the offence. (Planet Rugby has video of the incident for anyone who hasn't seen it.) However, I accept that in the modern game, the outcome often seems as important as the offence. And indeed, the outcome of that collision was serious enough to warrant at least a yellow. A red was not massively surprising, but if he's cited, I hope he doesn't receive further sanction. Stander's not a dirty player normally.

Big up for the heart shown in winning a game away in SA playing for three quarters with 14 (and another ten minutes with 13!). I realise SA are in transition at the moment. but it still takes a hell of an effort to win there on a Summer tour.

Great day for the green machine. Wolfpups beat the AB Babies and then that. 😀

Perhaps Farrell is making a difference...

Re Stander, it was a stupid thing to do. I can't see a legal outcome from what he did.

If I'm honest, I've thought Ire throw themselves illegally at people for years, sane as Aus do in their own 22.
