Piggie, never spoke to them. Young lads ran up the staircase spitting at people. Didn't really make anyone want to hang around and chat to any Ospreys fans after that.
Met some lovely people from other clubs though and I'm sure I will from Ospreys at some point, but that night wasn't that point.

Priestland rumours still persisting around Sale, apparently we are getting a new 'playmaker' but anyone's guess as to who/what that means.

When Swansea and Neath merged to make the Ospreys a lot of Swansea fans were uncomfortable with the fact that they'd be lumped in with the Neath lot. Neath, famous for their chant of........Neef, Neef, Neef, Neef, Neef. 🙄 Swansea fans were a bit older and calmer - a larger, more affluent town's fanbase, rather than a small town crowd with nothing else to do in the town.

I'm not saying that the phlegm boys were from Neath, but there were reasons that a lot of ex-Swansea supporters stay away and one was behaviour like this which would never have been allowed at St Helens.

On the other side of things, did a MTB Marathon out of Ruthin a couple of years ago, which was sited at Ruthin Rugby Club. Had a bit of a shock walking in, to see a huge mural/photo of Sale Sharks down the back wall - realised quickly that Ruthin was the home club of Effion Lewis-Roberts, had a lovely evening with the Ruthin club guys listening to their proud tales of Effion - wasn't good prep for a MTB Marathon the next morning though. There and Llandovery were very open an welcoming to us.

Anyway - AJ MacGinty, what's the view of him from those who watch the Pro12? Has he been instrumental in Connaught's rise to the top or has he been given an armchair ride?

Just watched sarries bath. Sarries got away with a lot. Cook's talking to for use of the boot was correct but mako should have been carded for his deliberate bridge and roll. Used to be called sealing off. Cook's yellow for a tackle that was no worse than one lauded by sarries in the first half.

Is there any substance to these rumours about Bath? Quite telling (to me at least) that Ford had to make the statement to the effect that he would still be in charge next season.

European Rugby Cup

Quick question about semi-final venues. SF1 already know to be Madesky based upon QF1 and 2. From what I can see whoever wins the QF4 between Racing and Toulon will be the home country side as both have better records (I think). So assuming its Racing vs Leicester the SF will in France, probably somewhere like Lille (neutral venue nearish the UK) ? If Toulon win it will be down in the South ?

Madejski Stadium, Reading, the City Ground in Nottingham, the Allianz Riviera, Nice and the MMArena in Le Mans have been chosen as the venues which are in line to host next month's European Rugby Champions Cup semi-finals.
The Madejski Stadium is certain to stage an all-Aviva Premiership semi-final on Saturday, 23 April, and the second semi-final will be played the following day at one of three stadiums depending on the results of the Champions Cup quarter-finals.

With the winners of the Wasps v Exeter Chiefs and Saracens v Northampton Saints quarter-finals making the trip to Reading, if Leicester Tigers and Racing 92 come successfully through their quarter-finals against Stade Francais Paris and RC Toulon respectively, then they will face off on Sunday, 23 April at the City Ground.

However, if Stade Français and Racing 92 make up the semi-final pairing, the TOP 14 rivals will clash at the MMArena. Meanwhile, if Toulon defeat Racing in their quarter-final, then the title holders will meet either Leicester or Stade Français at the Allianz Riviera.

The semi-finals are played at venues designated by EPCR which have been selected in conjunction in this instance with Premiership Rugby and the Ligue Nationale de Rugby.

Home country advantage in the last four was determined by the new Champions Cup semi-final format which recognises performances by clubs during the pool stage as well as the achievement of winning a quarter-final away from home.

The same format applies to the Challenge Cup semi-finals, however, the last four matches will be staged at home venues as set out below following the results of the quarter-finals.

When does the Marler lynch mob assemble?

Hearing is tomorrow??? How long does a lynch mob need to assemble? 🙂

“There aren’t many travellers who play rugby,” said Lee.

“Most of the family take up boxing. I’m the first traveller to play international rugby and I’m very proud of that.

“I’ve got about 60 cousins and 12 or more come to see me playing for Scarlets or Wales. The younger are ones are starting to take more of an interest in rugby, rather than boxing."

also

"I believe I am the first international rugby player with a Traveller background," Lee said in an interview, published on Saturday, which was given before the Marler incident.

"I'm very proud of who I am and what I have managed to achieve on behalf of Travellers."

The bit that grabbed me was him being the first traveller to play international rugby. I thought at first this must be badly worded and meant to mean "first in his family" when comparing the popularity between boxing and rugby but then I saw the second quote after a quick Google

Quiz time 🙂 Can any one else name a international rugby player with a traveller background?

Someone on an opposing team did that to one of the our second rows once, being the closest team mate at the time I felt duty bound to go in swinging, I'd like to say I floored the **** but truth be told I was having very little impact and was glad when the heavy artillary of the front row arrived! It erupted again in the bar afterwards I came off distinctly second best then too!! ****ing psycho nutter he was like that **** above!

I think he's proved to be an excellent pundit and writes a decent column too.

A far cry from the BBC trio of Jiffy, Gusset and Nicol who rarely say anything of any interest. Actually I do quite like Jiffy as a pundit but loathe him as a commentator.

Keith Wood is good though. Maybe they should have more front rowers on.

Well the NZ teams have been lighting it up in Super Rugby. Good bit by BM in the Torygraph about the SH/NH gulf.

Here's a good example:

No, Fitz, Wood and Pitbull demonstrate that it should be restricted to the intellectual core alone - stick to hookers, the cream of the XV. Clear out the pretty boys - Guscott, Jiffy, Inverdale.

I come at this from a biased viewpoint but whenever I watch SH rugby the game management and speed/ quality of ball from 9 and 10 always jumps out for me. I know the forwards have already done the hard work by that stage but I can't see the same happening here in the same circumstances. I think most of us could pick 3 9's and 3 10's to go on the Lions Tour but none offer anything special or creative in addition to doing the basics very well. Aaron Smith has been on fire this season whenever I've watched him and the quality of distribution is too good/ quick for my NH accustomed eyes to follow on TV let alone imagine playing against! Not just the big names doing it either but skills across the board. just a small part of many NH/ SH differences in approaching the game but something that sticks out for me

I watch SR and wonder whether they employ defensive coaches. It's almost as if they are saving their energy for attacking.

In a number of those cases it looks like they have employed Alex Cuthbert as a specialist wing defence coach!

The difference is the speed at which the ball is recycled and or moved away from contact before the tackle. It gives the 9 and 10 much more time and gaps to run into. Webb and Davies would be devastating given that much space.

I remember going to the fund raising game Christchurch played at Twickenham after the earthquake. It was worth it for the donation and to see Carter but the score was 45-35 or something and it was actually really boring, my neighbour and I where close to leaving before the end.

@nameaste - that video makes my point 48-23. Is that more interesting than a tough 10-6 ? Not for me

The SH did all right keeping out the NH in the RWC while still putting some cricket scores in 😕

Think a_a makes a good point on the ball recycling. There's a definite emphasis on keeping the ball alive and fighting to present quickly rather than trucking up and tussling for an extra 10mm towards the gain line before then maybe thinking about getting it to the feet of your 9.

True, they aren't both one and the same and the way the games go is generally different as things get tighter the higher you go anywhere in the world, but in terms of the culture of rugby and approach to the game there is a lot of common ground (at least comparatively speaking to the NH and our leagues/ competitions). It is quite common to mock SR/ SH defenses on a highlights video but funnily enough the tries will have had to feature a missed tackle or bad judgement of an overlap, etc for the try to be scored in the first place. They don't necessarily accurately portray the rest of the game.

@DanW - JW who ? 😉 enjoyed that

DezB agreed but was just trying to make a point about the one game I saw live and the video posted. The extreme is basketball (a game I used fo play and have watched a lot on tv and live) where there is plenty of scoring but only the last 2-3 mins are really interesting

Whilst I hate to agree with anything you say Jambalaya - it's a fair point. 😉 I'd probably find Bath beating Saracens 10-6 (unlikely, I know) more interesting than 2 teams I don't care about racking up a basketball type score.

However I watch at least a couple of complete SR games per week and likewise with the AP and, as I know the SR teams quite well, I find the games generally more exciting than the AP.

The bigger picture is that the players, especially the Kiwis, have a different mindset and also the skills to back up their ambitions. Not all the games are 55-45 but even in tighter, low scoring affairs many opportunities for tries are taking with, frequently, a breathtaking display of skills.

Exactly and this is why I was pissed off about the Marler thing. It deserved a small sanction and he may well get one now but the big picture of how bent the whole system is wont be addressed.

Rugby disiplinary procedures need a a ****ing rocket up the collective arses. Had Marler been French or Gavin Henson he'd have got 6 months!!

Not really a long enough ban, but the fine is substantial.

Had it been Henson they would have just banned him from spray tanning and hair gel, that would have hurt more than any time off rugby
