Fiji getting the rough end of the TMO here. Right decision, I suppose.

And....if the rest of the tournament has this much reliance on the TMO, I'll be watching paint dry instead. Rugby really isn't helping itself here.

This ref is awful. Surely if he has given the try he cant go back?

Fiji wouldn't have been penalised for no arms clearing the ruck if the ref had done his job and penalised Robshaw for hands in the ruck.

He was on his feet and entitled to compete for the ball.
They really are looking like world beaters.

Someones got their period!

May was absolutely skinned there! Unlucky for fiji that matey dropped the ball, would have been a great try (wood being held notwithstanding)

This ref is awful. Surely if he has given the try he cant go back?

Seen this happen a couple of times recently. Weird.

Some step from the Scrum Half though - nearly as good as Stringer that.

Ok, Mr Engraver, keep going.

Until the ruck is formed, and the ruck was definitely formed seeing as Fiji were penalised for clearing the ruck. Basic rule of rugby - no hands in a ruck. 😉

It's nice to see the teams going for tries. There was a spell where Rugby seemed to be trying to turn itself into football, which really wasn't right

Interesting decision. Ref got it right in the end, but weird to go back after seeing the replay on the big screen. English bloke doing the in stadium replays, obviously :p

Has the England scrum looked a bit suspect in the first half? I'm guessing Fiji's will tire in the second half but I was expecting more dominance from England.

Marler seems to have some angle going on every scrum!

England pack don't really seem to be in the game, suspect scrums, lost lineouts, generally getting smashed....

DD, the Fijian tighthead is a beast. When he's on form, he can seriously mess up the opposition scrum.

I agree though, expected more from the English tight five in the scrum.

Not a good sign to get pushed off your own ball on your 5m line. However I suspect the concentration is not what it should be.

Disappointed for the Figi 9 he didn't get that down, deserved a try.

Half and I'm pissed wahey!!!!

England have been as expected....a much weaker pack than we were expecting 12 month back and a load of backs that keep dropping the ball. At least Ben Youngs has perfected the art of passing at the floor....that's something to be happy about!

Our packs rubbish, and the rest disjointed. Individual talent yes but there is a lack of shape and cohesion.

I though may did very well, intelligent play. I saw nothing wrong with robshaws form, and i didn't hear the ref shout "Ruck; hands off", whether it was a ruck or not, no hands and the fijian was going to get penalised (correctly).
Thoughts; B Youngs is shovelling shit and I still don't know how he gets a start over Care. The fijian OC is giving JJ no space whatsoever, and england aren't dealing with it very well. Ford looks flustered and the scrum is creaking. Game is wide open.

If England play like this v aus or wales and the ref is halfway competant they will be in trouble. Sadly I doubt they will!

Onc a try is given play should continue IMO but I seem to remember from when this last came up (Walsh?) that the ref is entitled to reverse their decision so long as the conversion hasn't been taken???? I hope the TMO suffers technical problems for the rest of the rwc

Even world beaters have to have an off day - England just getting theirs out of the way early. I expect them to run away with it in the second half.

Didn't someone on tv mention the JJ was going to give Goneva the runaround? 😆

That first half was far too long - games shouldn't take almost 2 hours.

I'm confused, why was the Fiji "try" disallowed? The ball came out of his hand for a split second but then he touched it when it was on the ground as far I could see.
A try is scored when a player touches the ball down inside the opposition's in-goal area between the try line and dead ball line.
Touch the ground with the ball - the player touches the ground with the ball while holding it in the hand or arms. No downward pressure is required.

Press down on the ball - if the ball is on the ground in the in-goal area the player must apply downward pressure "with a hand or hands, arm or arms, or the front of the body from waist to neck inclusive".

If they did, they were pissed. Goneva has been the form centre in the prem for about 2 seasons now. He is a truly exceptional player. If he were a kiwi or aussie, peeps would be all over his dick.

The grounding was fine. Because he's dropped it the ball has traveled forward, so it's a knock on (I think). Personally I think it should of been given anyway. That situation, imo, is no different to a player accidentally juggling the ball while running (and keeping possession despite the juggle)

In England's last game v Ireland N Owens told Ford that if he was given instruction by the TMo before the conversion then he was allowed to look at it. Better to get the right decision than not due to a technicality.

No, the grounding wasn't fine - he dropped the ball forward so had no control. The difference with a player juggling is that they must regain control before the ball touches the ground or another player. Try shouldn't stand but the ref was too hasty awarding it.

Ah, fair play. I dispute that momentarily losing contact with the ball demonstrates a lack on control (when combined with downward pressure a fraction of a second later), but I suspect that's what the law says.

If Fiji just had a little more nous when they turn the ball over they could mount dangerous counter attacks.

Otherwise you could throw the ball forward and tap it down at the last. Correct call by the Tv ref. Th erfe was wrong to stick his arm up straight away. Also incorrect to penalise england for holding on there.
Never mind, the saviour of rugby has just come on.....

Looked like a knock on in the contact to win the ball from Fiji to start the move in the first place. No reply from the TV guy though.
