You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
First lit up a couple of weeks ago and went into limp mode. Local garage replaced plugs and one of the coils. All good for a couple of weeks, but it's back again (just the light, not limp mode) and when they plug it in they can't find any fault (it appears to be driving fine).
They've tried cancelling it out, but a few days later it comes back.
Is main dealer next option, or is there anything else to look at/try first? Guessing it's the same system as Golf.
It's the 2.0 TSi

Are they a VAG specialist? If not they may not have full diagnostics beyond the basic OBD2. If that's the case a VAG independent workshop would be my next port of call if you have one nearby.
Yeah you need a VAG specialist or dealer. I had that engine in an Octavia. There are loads of sensors or issues it could be, pressure sensors, MAF, PCV valve, diverter valve, evap purge thing... the list goes on.
Yeah you really need a VW specialist with VAGCOM or a friend with VCDS you can borrow.
Doesn't fill me with confidence that the first garage have just thrown a parts lottery at it and hoped for the best.
It really could be anything even a faulty sensor in the exhaust, you need to know exactly what the computer is saying not what a generic reader is telling them.
Thanks, all. Local VAG specialist it is.
VW? EML covers everything from a failed lightbulb to total engine failure…
Let us know how it goes. I'm a bit of a tsi enthusiast but have always been a bit frightened by the reputation of the 2.0 given the list of common faults on them, but they're also great engines when working. Hopefully it's something simple like a dodgy O2 sensor but they can have faults with the water pump, timing chain, injectors, intake manifold and flappers, and carbon build up.
They're all fixable issues but some aren't cheap.
Intake manifold and flappers apparently. Booked in for the new year.
It seems to be driving ok, doesn't sound rough or any noticeable loss of power.

I was going to suggest this, if it's the 2015 code then it's a very common fault.
Cost £700 to put mine right on an octy VRS (same engine). It's a little plastic flap that gets worn and over-rotates, hence the sensor receives a nonsense reading.
Great, nice easy fix for a specialist and hopefully they don't have to wait long for any parts needed.
