Should I?

Our imminent return to the UK requires the acquisition of a RHD UK registered car - there aren't many around but a Disco at the right price and apparently ok condition has come up. I know about the drink problem it will have as its an Auto but are there any particular things I should look out for?

It will be a shame to part with the S-Max but needs must (stealth ad for anyone in France!)

I love Land Rovers but I wouldn't buy a Disco unless I had the opportunity to have a good look around the inner panels and chassis for rust.

Whay don't you do what most people do and bring the French car then "forget" to tax it for a year or three? As long as you have insurance your chances of a random stop are zero because the Police are so thin on the ground that they are just relying on ANPR to flag up wanted or uninsured drivers from the databases,

Keeping the S-Max for the time being is plan B!

My mates dad has been doing that....but for 30 years. On car number 5 or 6 now. Hasn't lived in France for any of this time but rents out a flat in paris

generally the shell on these(d2) is good but they are prone to the chassis rotting on the main rails .

Seen plenty that you can see through from left to right through the bottom corners of the chassis rails.

Irony that the d1 shell was always rotten as a peach round suspension , seatbelt mounts sills and inner wings. but the chassis would always be solid (for the most part)

Do you mean in France or in the UK? Plenty of cars to choose from here! Just sort out your moving and buy with cash over here

Exactly - why buy coal so that you can bring it to Newcastle.

I have a D2. I bought it with 195,00 miles on the clock. I had a new rear quarter chassis fitted.

All that has faiked in my ownership was the ACE hydraulic pipes. I fitted standard anti roll bars and a pulley tensioner. Used parts around £90

Other DIY stuff I’ve done includes the injector loom and fuel pressure regulator. A new viscous fan and some rear callipers

Chassis rust is the killer. Mine is used for towing my log trailer. Lately it’s been hauling tons of rubble from a renovation project. They are great 4x4s for very little cash. I paid £1900 for mine two and a half years ago. It’s now on 210,000 miles

Thanks for all the replies 🙂 The vendor of the LR has let me down so I'm off to look at a Mercedes e240 Estate this afternoon (buy shares in Shell...) being sold by a much nicer person!
