What camcorder can the STW massive recommend for around £200?
It's for a present, for someone that's not tecky, so simple with good quality picture preferred.

Am unsure if the DVD-recording ones i've seen are reliable in use? Any thoughst?

Sony Mini DV of some sort? I had one and it was pretty good, dead easy to use.

WHS^^^ bought one a couple of years ago for less than 200 notes - faultless.

Is DV tape not dead yet though, really? It can't be that easy to hook up to a PC & d/load bits n' bobs, for example?

Mine had a firewire lead, so you could connect and either record straight into iMovie (on a mac) or record to the tape first then transfer it onto the Mac for editing etc. Very easy.

The Sanyo Xacti range look pretty cool. This one's waterproof too!

Well it looks like it's down to either a sony dvd recording one, or a JVC hard-disk one, both ~£200 or so. Got to go into town to check them out though. MEH!
