skied for the first 20 years of my life, then snowboarded for the last 16 years.........

went back on ski's on wednesday [atomic panic's] and it's cheating !!!!

what a fantastic snowtime experience having deep hard carving edges x2 and the ski technology has improved dramatically....

boots have bruised my ankles [atomic hawx 80] but what fast secure and grown up fun i had back on skis...

i can't believe after all that time it was "just like riding a bike " ....

any tips to progress towards both skis carving ? got 1.5 skis carving in 3 days....

What have you borrowed from ski, and does he know about it?

I had exactly the same thing recently after a similar amount of time not skiing due to snowboarding instead. It's really amazing how much easier the modern ski designs make it.

Not sure about tips though sorry. How do you mean you got 1.5 skis carving? Not quite parallel turns?

To get from "1.5" to both skis carving, you need to start to use "foot steering" to steer the skis through the turn. basically pressuring with the big toe of one foot and little toe of the other, weight reasonably centred (bias slightly towards the tips). One way to achieve this is to think about "steering with your knees" (unless you are knock-kneed or duck footed in which case ignore me).

Skiing has changed a lot of the past 16 years so I imagine skiing with your feet apart is part of the challenge. One good tip is to imagine a football between your knees at all times. Helps me to keep my feet apart and my weight in the correct place. When you carve both skis correctly and feel the acceleration, it is a great feeling.

Welcome back to the proper stuff! 😉

Hawx 80? Are you ickle teeny tiny? Mrs CFH skis in Hawx 80s! (Girly version, I should add!)

As to the boots hurting, the simple answer is get 'em fitted. Mine are super comfy, so much so that I often forget to undo them until the second or third post-piste beer....!

I too have just returned to skiing after 20 years (totally) away and was also amazed at how 'riding a bike' it was! Just awesome!

I have no lust for boots, but would love (to be able to justify) a Sweet Crusader Flightsuit!

Markie, spend your money on your boots before anything else! Especially that! Unless you're on permanent heli drop skiing* that is.

*Where no one can see how foolish you look! 😉

I know, and as things get more serious as we look to next year, boots would be top of the list (although Snowberry did me proud this year).

But that doesn't stop me wanting a Flightsuit and one of those helmets with a built in visor. I think I might be mid life crisising 😆

I find this rather ironic as I had years of listening to chalet punters telling me snowboarding was crap because it was easier than skiing.

I have the same boots. They are also 80 flex . Im 5 11 and 79kg. They work fine for me, and do not bruise my ankles at all . In fact aare super comfy , even after 8hrs skiing .
To get both skis 'engaged' and carving leaving railway tracks is easy.
You need to advance one ski alot further forward than you used to before . Then try breaking your torso at the hips against or uphill of the carve . THis weights the edges and increases the g force. Some people tuck 1 knee behind the other , depends if you are knock kneed or not.
My carvers are 11.4m radius and i find myslef 'winding up the windows ' when going quickly in a tight radius turn
