I had a hip replacement just after Christmas, I have to go back to newcastle mid feb for the follow up checks, the wife and I then want to go on a 2 night break straight from there. Any suggestions hotels airbnb etc, not newcastle as we spend a lot of time there and not the lakes as we live there. Just some where nice to spend a couple of days, maybe with some short walks or a nice town or city or harbor etc.

thanks

Berwick upon tweed? nice walks around the Elizabethan ramparts that encircle this border fortress, out to the lightnouse on the mouth of the Tweed, many references to Lowry everywhere as it was one of his favourite places to paint.

Oh yeah stay at the YHA they are great these days.

Alnmouth is not a bad shout neither Craster or Bamburgh for that matter ..some lovely coastal walks ..if taking the car you could also pop over to Lindisfarne ..

Slaley Hall, about 5 miles south of the A69 at Corbridge. Big castle type hotel with golf courses, spa and miles of grounds. Excellent place to put your feet up for a couple of days. Pool and Jacuzzi if you want a bit of hydrotherapy, gym if the physio gives you fresh stuff to do, Corbridge and Hexham on the doorstep for fancy shopping or the Roman Wall if you haven't seen enough of it already.

Harrogate?

Loads of restaurants, shops etc and plenty of local walking too.
I've stayed at a place called Harrogate Boutique Apartments a few times.
It's lovely.

Alnwick, Berwick etc. Lovely unspoilt area, lots of history, wonderful beaches and rocky coasts all within a short distance.

Durham - I know it's close but it's a world away from Newcastle.

The world's best Cathedral and Castle and the World's smallest gin bar!

Stay at the Victoria - what pubs used to be like!
