I’m looking at getting a 2nd car - it’s only me as the driver - what insurers do deals on cheap insurance for 2 cars ?

Thing is, car two could go up in flames sat still. If you are plus 40, insurance isn't expensive.

You might need a specialist, as I'm not sure the on-line stuff can do it.

Is this actually a thing...or something you've made up?

It's based on milage. You'll get a lower premium for a lower annual mileage on the basis you can't drive two cars at the same time. So if your average mileage is 12k per year then you can insure the cars on a 6k per year premium. I had a premium like this a while back when I was just doing low mileage...I only had one car. It won't be half the price though, probably 80% of the price, so you'll be paying about 160% or something like that...the risk of theft is still there even if you're not driving the car.

You can get a multi car policy - I have one from Admiral and you get a discount compared to two single policies. It wasn’t too expensive.

Well for me it was the cheapest way to insure two cars - this may not be the same for everyone else - obviously!

I’d be more impressed if you could get insurance to allow one driver  to drive two cars at the same time.

Continual insurance is now required unless a car is sorn. Multi car policy or two policy’s is the way forward.

Multi car policy might be best as you can't use the same NCB on two vehicles.

you can’t use the same NCB on two vehicles.

I have two cars and have 5 years no claims on my Golf insurance. When I insured my T5 although I couldn't use them twice they did take them into account.

I have 2 cars and a van all on the same policy, one of the cars is a high performance car adding the other 2 didn’t cost too much more, maybe £100extra.

If ones an aged aka classic or modern classic then you can insure it on limited milage no using your no claims for peanuts with a classic insurance company.

Leaves you to use the ncb on the other car to bring price down.

Classic line do multi car classic and modern combos to (broker)

You'll be best of with a specialist insurer.
I have a ratty old daily, and a 25 year old modified chav wagon, and I have to go through this dance every year. I did have 2 sets of no claims for exactly this reason but after the silly car was uninsured for a while I lost it.
Usual specialists to try are:
Adrian Flux
Greenlight
Sky
REIS
Competition Car Insurance
Need2insure
And some others I've probably forgotten.
As you get older it's not too expensive though. I'm 37 and it under 400 quid for both, one with 12k pa, and the other for 2.5
