Ok, starting weight is 18st, (fat Christmas) want to be 14. Email graemematheson at btinternet dot com
righty ho, here we go.
We have 100 people signed up, ready to go.
Please weigh yourself this weekend and email to
fatclub@18bikes.co.uk
don't put anything in the body, just fill in the subject with:
FORUMNAME/WEIGHT
Weight in kg please.
Rolling on from this, we'll be every Friday for weigh in, ok?
We have 100 people signed up, ready to go.
If it is anything like previous years there will be 8 left by the end of January 😉
From a purely psychological point of view, would weighing in on a monday be better? Reason being if you weigh on a friday and you maybe lost a pound or so you may be more inclined to 'let go' a bit more as it is the weekend?*
*I am probably talking rubbish tho.
What's all the fuss about weight loss, as long as you are getting enough exercise your weight will be right for you. If you cant catch up with young whippets or the racing snakes out there would it not be better for the forum work out a campaign to fatten them up to slow them down.. the Belgian style of diet always helped me with little effort to gain weight 🙂 happy new year
count me in im not too much over weight at 90kg but i would like to loose 10kg..... if you can do it so can i 😀
plus it will be a good start for training for the Dufi enduro
Ok, chapeau, 18 bikes. And thank you.
Weight in kgs - must remember this vital bit of info.
Friday night before dinner will be my considered approach. I think the scales do kg as well 🙂
Yeah, Friday weigh in is good for me. That way I can stuff my face over the weekend and still have the whole week to shift it! 😀
im fat 6ft 16stn 16yrs old 😯
Cheers Si - will hit the scales in the morning
C
Scales in the morning then!!!!
off to the weighbridge in the morning for me
For those who haven't realised- when I said email with username/weight in the email title, replace those with your username and weight!! Same for future weigh-ins, save me opening a hundred odd emails
email sent.
i bought some scales today, weight currently stands at 83.3kg and i'd like to get it to as near to 70kg as possible by the beginning of may (my birthday).
i don't think that's impossible...
Count me in for this too, Email on the way.
I think I need to be in. Loads of weight to lose!
Email to follow

That's my thinking too. Monday morning after all the weekend excess seems the best time, then there's the whole week to fight the flab.
so is the weekly weigh in friday/sunday or monday then?
Friday, I'm putting it together, that's what works for me doing it. As i see it, it's a week apart, what's it matter? first weigh in is as soon you get it to me....
First email sent. Now for the tricky bit 😕
I'm in. 118kg at the post Christmas weigh in yesterday morning. Yikes. Aiming to get down to 95kg by June, approx. 1kg a week. Email sent.
If you want the Monday weigh in, still do it!
Weigh Friday, send in to 18bikes.
Weigh Monday, stare at the scales for a bit saying motivational things (WTF! How! Oh Sh1t!) and be motivated for the week ahead (and possibly a little depressed/annoyed).
Weigh Friday and send in, and remember last Mondays difference and maybe go easy on the weekend?
Getting quite jealous of the Wii fits around the place at the moment though...
First email sent. Now for the tricky bit
same here.
All the sweets i got for xmas are going to work tomorrow. let the others pig out on turkish delight and Allsorts.
Finished the Xmas Chocolate last night. Weighed in this morning. I got a lot of work to get back from the Vegas Elvis brink...
Email sent too. 88.5kg...
Five of those came on in the month of December alone! I'd love to think I could realistically target 75kg for 2010 (I'm 5'11"), but realistically I'd settle on 80kg...
A baby we have due in four weeks will either help or hinder - I suspect the latter.
you can put me down for some of this too.
could do with losing 1&1/2 stone.have been losing some, but it's been slow hard work.
motivation's now starting to wane 🙁
email in profile
ok, first email sent, hopefully everyone's got that. If you're late to the party - email fatclub@18bikes.co.uk
I need email addresses (and first weigh in) from:
5th elefant
daveh
goan
gowrie
marsdenman
meesterbond
valleydaddy
yetirose
Cheers,
Si
First weigh in for me was 126.5kg IIRC... which is just plain scary (though not near my worst, so that is fine!)
I am having trouble deciding on a target and time frame for it - I think I tend to get a bit pissed off when I am not making suitable progress towards achieving it, give up and go to the pub!
That said, I do want to be in shape for the summer... when I was in shape last time around I was down to 113kg, I do a more manual job now though so will have added a bit of muscle weight I would imagine.
115kg by June... sound reasonable???
Problem I have is that I don't eat that much anyway (I have kept food diaries online that tell me I should be dropping a kg a week, and yes EVERYTHING goes into it) so I am at a bit of a loss. Throw in exercise and the weight falls off, but given that I am too knackered in the evenings (after lugging heavy things around all day) it can be tricky.
Is it possible that I am eating too little and my body is kind of holding onto reserves? Probably eating around 2200 cal a day, doing fairly manual work (lifting and carrying 30kg to 70kg lumps of iron around the place is fairly normal, for probably 2 - 3 hours of each day). Any thoughts?
My guess would be that 2200 cals is too little given your current weight. Don't forget, it takes a lot of energy to carry that around. Have a look at the timing of your food rather than just the volume. Little and often is the key.
sent you mail, i think. not sure if things being sent properly
any chance you can confirm for me please
Rob S - 124.5kg, so a little better there.
Imho it's eating that's the key - easier to not eat the calories in the first place. Most of us are fairly active/riding etc I'd've thought, more exercise will help, providing you don't then eat those calories back up! (or more!) Little and often, I'd agree- although having to learn that myself.
The "go to the pub" thing - serious weight loss is a constant, you can easily undo a weeks work in a night, so keeping right on top of it is best. Difficult mind.
Now sent, cheers.
Just a little tip. From doing this previously a food diary is a pretty handy thing to have. I have just started using My Fitness Pal as a means to track what i eat. The best thing about it, well for all of us Iphone users is that there is a free app available here, which allows you to add stuff while out and about and it all syncs to the website, and vice versa.
Holy crap!!! Just stepped on the scales, I am the biggest I have ever been!! 89kg considering I'm only 5'6" that means I need to shift some serious lard!
70kg is target to start with but would dearly love to get back to fighting weight of 63kg
Got some work to do me thinks
iam the resurrection?? 5'11amd 85 kg, sounds about right..
email sent 90 kg at 5'5. Want to be 75..
already a kg over what i mailed yesterday great ****in start lol
email sent. 108 Kg Got to lose some!
Sorry Si - weighed in at 99kg this am, then forgot to e-mail....
Just sent it.
Cheers
C
Is it to late for me to sign up ? 102 kgs last January and by May I was down to 89.5kgs. I'd like to do the same this year.
Cheers Ian
ianjnkatmadotcom
I'm in too Si - will drop you an email...
have weighed in at 107.5 kg (at 1.90m/6'3") so have some work to do... aiming for a BMI nearer 23 (or a BMI prime nearer 1)
Cheers,
Mark
18Bikes - please can I join tooo? I'll email over my username and weight to your email addy shortly.
In the mean time for all to see :o(
6foot 4inches
101.7kgs
42.5inches around my spare tyre
Dan
Just sent mine in 97.8 kgs. Not as bad as I thought so heres hoping!!
Dave
just sent mine.
just under 6ft and just over 15st (96kg) although I suspect our scales underweigh a bit.
Initial target would be 10% = 10kg give or take.
would be interesting to find out from the hundred or so people in the club what the average rider height and weight are when we're all finished
well, once everyone gets their weights in, i can publish an average each week....
did i need to send my height as well? i'm 6'1 BTW (92.9kg)
I didn't send my height, just my username and weight (80kg, and I'm 6').
I'm not really aiming to lose much, but I'd like to get rid of the Christmas weight at the same time as getting fitter and this seems a nice way of getting some inspiration!
email sent, hope I'm still in time?
YGM
181cm (although much taller than a lot of people who claim to be 6ft)
89.6kg (a lightweight by fatclubing standards)
27.3 BMI
Aiming for 75kg (22.9 BMI) in 3 months time, which should allow me to either have another op on my knee without looking like Jabba the Hutt after the inevitable post op weight gain, or put the weight back on again as lean muscle and get back to my previous build.
just mailed in my stats so here comes the shaming.
Been put on slimming world by misses too so here's to a slimmer fitter valleydady 😀
Too late to join in? Just weighed myself out of curiosity and realised I'm 5'10" and 14 stone 1 lb... Should really be about 12 stone.
(or in Metric - 177.5cm, just under 90kg...)
Sent email yesterday...hope I made the cut..
count me in too if not too late, i;ve eaten too much turkey 🙂
emailed info
right, people so far have made it to join, even if late- I'm not taking any more, or faffing with those who registered interest, then missed emailing weights.
2nd weigh in Friday eve, IN KG PLEASE!
Cheers,
Si
Just had the worlds biggest take away curry, guess my weight won't be down tommorrow then 😳
Wait till you get into the new house and start on the pizzas round the corner 🙄
Snow day with a box of Roses yesterday and my darling wife bringing home a bag of doughnuts might not help me... still, always next week, the more there is the quicker it goes yea?
Boxes of roses and pizzas and curries - no wander you're all in the fat club!
Can I join????

It was going well at the start of the week, but i've been off ill today and had the nibbles - oops.
You managed 3 days? I thought my willpower was bad.
Trekster - yep it's going to be a problem for sure... 🙂
Other then the curry we've been good and a little exercise proof will be the weigh in.
It's not going to be looking good for me either, docs have put me back on steroids for a minimum of 6 weeks today - last course that I was on I put just over a stone on. Still going to try though.
I'm looking forward to hearing the excuses almost as much as seeing the weight loss! 😆
I'm starving! Just watched Horizon, about food, and now I want some food! Help!
i never bothered emailing my height because, 1. si never asked for it, and 2. it's irrelevant for the purposes of this "club" anyway surely?
Who is asking about height? Never sent my details in...just name/kg
No one. SOme of the late comers are trying to confuse us all
it's just name and weight.
It was me who said it would be interesting to find out the average height and weight of an average MTB rider. But we can do this at the end once we're all a bit more svelt 😀
Weigh in today guys and gals!
Oops I didnt catch the send in Email. All done now. 98KG 🙁 Thats 6kg up from all the good work I did 2 years ago when I started this cycling lark. (was 109 though so I know I can do it...)
Fine start, according to Wi-fit I've gained 2kg,but according to the bathroom scales my weight is steady.I haven't started yet (excuse).
Ian
does anyone know how the "weigh in" mails should be sent
current weight?
or
weight lost since previous weigh in?
thanks
g
I've just sent
Onzadog 92.35
which is my current weight. I assume the spreadsheet will calculate loses.
The second weigh in is today. you need only send in your username followed by your weight (today) in kg in the subject line of the email. sent to fatclub@18bikesDOTcoDOTuk
You better check with Si at 18 bikes if you haven't emailed prior to his post earlier in this thread (page 6 half way down) as he's kindly putting this all together for everyone.
Not managed to do much dedicated stuff to shift it yet, but all this cold weather and working outside has taken 500g off anyway! So a slow but steady start then.
I can't seem to raise the motivation to get back into mountain biking again at the moment... something to do with the sheet ice I think! When I got the Yeti 575 back in 2005 my first ride was in similar conditions, and I went down, hard, within half an hour and required a new mech hanger and rear mech! Decided that black ice and mountain bikes didn't mix at that point.
I will perhaps try to get out for a nice walk in the countryside this weekend instead I think... there is a location I want to go and photograph so it could be a good excuse!
Aye, 2nd weigh in tonight peoples - I'll send an email reminder later. Just send an email with nothing in the body, JUST FORUMNAME/WEIGHT in the subject to fatclub@18bikes.co.uk
Weight in KG please.
Any questions - email fatclub@18bikes.co.uk
No need to post weights on the forum - I think that'll just fill up the thread!
Si
thanks Si !!
