righty ho, here we go.

We have 100 people signed up, ready to go.

Please weigh yourself this weekend and email to

fatclub@18bikes.co.uk

don't put anything in the body, just fill in the subject with:

FORUMNAME/WEIGHT

Weight in kg please.

Rolling on from this, we'll be every Friday for weigh in, ok?

We have 100 people signed up, ready to go.

If it is anything like previous years there will be 8 left by the end of January 😉

From a purely psychological point of view, would weighing in on a monday be better? Reason being if you weigh on a friday and you maybe lost a pound or so you may be more inclined to 'let go' a bit more as it is the weekend?*

*I am probably talking rubbish tho.

What's all the fuss about weight loss, as long as you are getting enough exercise your weight will be right for you. If you cant catch up with young whippets or the racing snakes out there would it not be better for the forum work out a campaign to fatten them up to slow them down.. the Belgian style of diet always helped me with little effort to gain weight 🙂 happy new year

Yeah, Friday weigh in is good for me. That way I can stuff my face over the weekend and still have the whole week to shift it! 😀

For those who haven't realised- when I said email with username/weight in the email title, replace those with your username and weight!! Same for future weigh-ins, save me opening a hundred odd emails

That's my thinking too. Monday morning after all the weekend excess seems the best time, then there's the whole week to fight the flab.

If you want the Monday weigh in, still do it!
Weigh Friday, send in to 18bikes.
Weigh Monday, stare at the scales for a bit saying motivational things (WTF! How! Oh Sh1t!) and be motivated for the week ahead (and possibly a little depressed/annoyed).
Weigh Friday and send in, and remember last Mondays difference and maybe go easy on the weekend?
Getting quite jealous of the Wii fits around the place at the moment though...

Email sent too. 88.5kg...

Five of those came on in the month of December alone! I'd love to think I could realistically target 75kg for 2010 (I'm 5'11"), but realistically I'd settle on 80kg...

A baby we have due in four weeks will either help or hinder - I suspect the latter.

First weigh in for me was 126.5kg IIRC... which is just plain scary (though not near my worst, so that is fine!)

I am having trouble deciding on a target and time frame for it - I think I tend to get a bit pissed off when I am not making suitable progress towards achieving it, give up and go to the pub!

That said, I do want to be in shape for the summer... when I was in shape last time around I was down to 113kg, I do a more manual job now though so will have added a bit of muscle weight I would imagine.

115kg by June... sound reasonable???

Problem I have is that I don't eat that much anyway (I have kept food diaries online that tell me I should be dropping a kg a week, and yes EVERYTHING goes into it) so I am at a bit of a loss. Throw in exercise and the weight falls off, but given that I am too knackered in the evenings (after lugging heavy things around all day) it can be tricky.

Is it possible that I am eating too little and my body is kind of holding onto reserves? Probably eating around 2200 cal a day, doing fairly manual work (lifting and carrying 30kg to 70kg lumps of iron around the place is fairly normal, for probably 2 - 3 hours of each day). Any thoughts?

My guess would be that 2200 cals is too little given your current weight. Don't forget, it takes a lot of energy to carry that around. Have a look at the timing of your food rather than just the volume. Little and often is the key.

Rob S - 124.5kg, so a little better there.

Imho it's eating that's the key - easier to not eat the calories in the first place. Most of us are fairly active/riding etc I'd've thought, more exercise will help, providing you don't then eat those calories back up! (or more!) Little and often, I'd agree- although having to learn that myself.

The "go to the pub" thing - serious weight loss is a constant, you can easily undo a weeks work in a night, so keeping right on top of it is best. Difficult mind.

Just a little tip. From doing this previously a food diary is a pretty handy thing to have. I have just started using My Fitness Pal as a means to track what i eat. The best thing about it, well for all of us Iphone users is that there is a free app available here, which allows you to add stuff while out and about and it all syncs to the website, and vice versa.

Holy crap!!! Just stepped on the scales, I am the biggest I have ever been!! 89kg considering I'm only 5'6" that means I need to shift some serious lard!

70kg is target to start with but would dearly love to get back to fighting weight of 63kg

Got some work to do me thinks

just sent mine.

just under 6ft and just over 15st (96kg) although I suspect our scales underweigh a bit.

Initial target would be 10% = 10kg give or take.

I didn't send my height, just my username and weight (80kg, and I'm 6').

I'm not really aiming to lose much, but I'd like to get rid of the Christmas weight at the same time as getting fitter and this seems a nice way of getting some inspiration!

YGM

181cm (although much taller than a lot of people who claim to be 6ft)

89.6kg (a lightweight by fatclubing standards)

27.3 BMI

Aiming for 75kg (22.9 BMI) in 3 months time, which should allow me to either have another op on my knee without looking like Jabba the Hutt after the inevitable post op weight gain, or put the weight back on again as lean muscle and get back to my previous build.

It was me who said it would be interesting to find out the average height and weight of an average MTB rider. But we can do this at the end once we're all a bit more svelt 😀

The second weigh in is today. you need only send in your username followed by your weight (today) in kg in the subject line of the email. sent to fatclub@18bikesDOTcoDOTuk

You better check with Si at 18 bikes if you haven't emailed prior to his post earlier in this thread (page 6 half way down) as he's kindly putting this all together for everyone.

Not managed to do much dedicated stuff to shift it yet, but all this cold weather and working outside has taken 500g off anyway! So a slow but steady start then.

I can't seem to raise the motivation to get back into mountain biking again at the moment... something to do with the sheet ice I think! When I got the Yeti 575 back in 2005 my first ride was in similar conditions, and I went down, hard, within half an hour and required a new mech hanger and rear mech! Decided that black ice and mountain bikes didn't mix at that point.

I will perhaps try to get out for a nice walk in the countryside this weekend instead I think... there is a location I want to go and photograph so it could be a good excuse!

Aye, 2nd weigh in tonight peoples - I'll send an email reminder later. Just send an email with nothing in the body, JUST FORUMNAME/WEIGHT in the subject to fatclub@18bikes.co.uk

Weight in KG please.

Any questions - email fatclub@18bikes.co.uk

No need to post weights on the forum - I think that'll just fill up the thread!
