Doing my 1st 10k (run) on sunday, any tips?

I have done some training and managed just over 10k on monday night. Not too worried about what time i get, but would be really happy with under an hour.

Don't start too quickly - keep to your pace, not that of the people around you.

I did 10k in an hour with 6 weeks training medium effort, max distance 4 miles. Reasonably easy to do.

no its Perth, Scotland.

One dilema I am having is that I am running with the GF and she has a slower pace than me. So do I stay with her the whole 10k or break away after 5?

Problem is she has a sore achilles and wouldnt want to leave her if she was struggling.

I guess the right decision is to stay together and not worry about my time?

Keep it steady for the first 7-8km - there are usually markers every km so for your time make sure you are hitting them at 6mins each. If you are feeling good towards the end then start to up the pace. You'll get a lift from running with lots of other people. Enjoy it!

edit - just seen your new post. I'd stick with the GF and enjoy the experience and then plan for your next one.

You'll easily break the hour, my first was 45mins on 6mths 'training', my fastest is 39mins.

Ideally speed up after 5km to run the last half faster, and finish like a train 😛

I made the mistake of running using an HRM when I did my first run for about 5 years a while back. It was a 5km time trial type thing (ParkRun).

The problem is that whilst my heart and lungs were used to workign at that level the muscles in my legs that I used for running weren't. I did the run in about 25 minutes but couldn;t walk the following day.

So, if you're 'cycling fit' but not 'running fit' go slower than you feel like you could.

Yeah stick with the GF - it is the only fair thing to do.

If you've done 6 weeks of running up to 10km distance you'll easily do it in an hour.

Dont go too fast at the start, wear a watch, dont eat/drink anything that you normally dont (ie energy drinks/gels).
