You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Got COVID. Poleaxed yesterday but a bit better today. Can't see me doing much until at least the back end of the week though. 🙁
I started doing intervals to the bathroom about 1am this morning - does it count? I am absolutely exhausted.
Still in by the skin of my teeth! Early Zwift before heading up North Saturday. Quite a lot of booze and that afternoon/PM then a long drive home yesterday afternoon. Just got over the line with two tepid attempts at the 15 min Yogalates on Kassandra channel. Did not enjoy 😉
Back on it today, 45 min easy walk with mostly leg rehab'd mutt#1. Swim lunchtime, maybe a Zwift later. Rest of the week is looking busy exercise wise.
As long as I don't get Covid, as everyone I know seems to have it/flu/bad cold right now 🙁
I've just had my flu vaccination, but don't qualify for the Covid one this year. Todays 30 minutes is, in fact, walking to and from the hospital 😂
(It's OK, I've a trail run later too)
Hanging on in there.
Had that covid/cold thing, I was 50/50 about racing on saturday, ended up racing then doing 20 mins at the pump track on the way home.
Heaving old council paving slabs around all day yesterday - i fgured that counted as exercise, it has spannered my shoulder which made the lunchtime pumptrack laps hard work mind.
Back commuting for the next 3 days, so that's easy.
I played football on Friday and Saturday. Then more HIIT leg burners on Sunday. I can't say that they are getting any easier over the 30 or so minutes, but Mrs. 10 thinks I look like I've lost weight.
Back in the saddle (literally) now with the bike on the turbo. Despite walking and a lot of work outside, my cycling form has suffered badly since summer. I'm also continuing the kettlebell work I have been doing since summer, but throwing in 50 squats, 50 press-ups and 50 sit-ups as a little morning wake-up.
An hour walk run up the mountain yesterday afternoon.
An hour of hardtail in the woods this morning chasing a far better rider on greasy roots and rocks.
Had a delayed flight today so I spent an hour and a half dragging my rollaboard in laps of the terminal.
2km swim today - was great.
I appreciate that sacking off two gym sessions to go riding instead, followed by a weekend of food and booze at my mums rather jolly wake, going back to "bootcamp" at the Gym today might be a bit harder than expected.
However, I was not prepared for my stumbling form falling back into my car after a mere 45 minutes. The Abs section of the class was particularly cruel. I expect much "uncommanded sitting" tomorrow. Blooming glad I didn't do the Spin class before!
Here's some photos from my kayak on Sunday, across to Morvern from the Isle of Mull - this is open sea, not a loch. I managed to 'sneak' up on a feeding otter as I drifted downwind toward it - it came up on the rocks with a fish about 10 feet away before it got spooked and jumped back in.
No exercise yesterday as it was a day-long trip down to Glasgow for a hospital appointment - all good on the results. I did try to make up today with a 10km look around the local forest with plenty of windfall trees to negotiate.
I felt shattered today. But I managed to get in a 4 mile walk.
Under 8 hrs sleep in total over the last 2 nights, a lot of family stuff going on.. Running on fumes unfortunately.
I did manage an hour of Z2 Zwift on the Wattbike yesterday, today who knows, may have to resort to logging dog walks as I really don’t want to break the streak !
This was from last week but as a) the uploader was broken and b) I rode past the same log stack about an hour ago, it's going to have to do. Other than this never-ending not quite a cold/bit of asthma feeling my fitness improving. Not back to pre-splatterbone levels but doing something everyday is definitely helping.
Back to circuits tomorrow. Fab ride tonight. Looking at forecast, might be last dry one for a while...
been a bit busy this week
yoga on Monday, after cubs, then in Tuesday did a little bit of climbing wall- first proper climb in 20 years, am training to be an instructor for cubs/scouts, then did a 40 minute kettlebell workout
this evening squeezed in a 15k night ride, round the local xc trails, conditions were perfect!
Totally given up now on the challenge - done nothing since Sunday - working long days/driving/tired.
Still on a weight loss/get fitter vibe though, which will be biking whenever I can and gym when I feel like it
Been out for nearly a week now, throat has been attacked with sand paper and ears are full of cotton wool, hoping to be back in the game soon 😕
Still going here, yesterday was tough and had to resort to extended dog walks, which is my reserve Plan B. Should be back on the pedals later today though 🤞
I don't feel like i'm winning at this at all now, despite still being in the game. Since the lurgy the other week it's been a real struggle to get enough sleep in, eat enough and still find time for anything else. I'm knackered
Seems to be alot if sickness about.I had my lurgy in August. Post viral fatigue was the worst thing about it
Banked a yoga session this morning, then got a window to ride so did a lovely Langdale loop courtesy of @Alex thank you.
Back on the bike after a couple of days if walks. My energy/enthusiasm seems to come in waves.Might be the time of year .Bit of sunshine would be nice.
First full session on the bike this evening. I'd forgotten how much of a ballache it is. Still killed 600 kCal and felt a bit better for it.
Another strength and abs class in the Gym. Shall be feeding myself through a straw for a day or so I think. Off to delights of Brum tomorrow so it'll be an early run I think.
Been making the most of the settled dry weather for the last week or so - Ben A’an with a heavy bag on Sunday, Ben Ledi on Tuesday, then biking the Burma Rd with a mate yesterday. Garmin gave me a body battery score of 1 last night, so today has been a rest day with a couple of shortish walks with the dog. Some amazing views above the inversion, but can’t get pictures to load unfortunately.
Park run 300 ! this morning for me - really slow - I have picked up a cold - first one since a bout of covid in 2022 - not bad going really - but it made it tough this morning at Oakwell..
Took advantage of the ‘calm’ weather to do another leg of kayaking around the island. My longest day’s paddling and I’ve got the sore arms, back and shoulders that come with it. The sea was a little less calm than expected, but not quite completely terrifying.
Really not feeling like doing anything today, but I’ll find something I’m sure, not quitting yet.
Back on the bike this morning after my dramatic 3kg weight loss earlier in the week, a nice 18 mile pootle to and from a garden centre cafe
managed late night yoga for 40 mins on Thursday
a lunchtime session at the skatepark on Friday
then skateboard with the kids yesterday morning, cycled 10 k along the canal to the local scout campsite, where I spent 4 hours belaying scouts on the climbing wall, before cycling back, I was knackered by the evening.
Think some yoga this evening to try and stretch out my weary limbs!
Outdoor gym on Saturday,394 calories burnt. Then 12,400 steps around the parks in the gloom.Sunshine anybody
Swim-Gym class x2, Night Ride, Gym Classx2, Swim, All day (ish but it felt like a big one) ride, 5km with the dogs this morning and some easy yoga/stretching/shoulder as it's a bit sore after that ride and I have my last NHS physio session when it'll be tested to strength and mobility apparently.
Next week similar other than a early start/late finish in Manchester so going to need to motivate myself to do something when I get back. Be a shame to miss a day now tho.
Not gonna lie, hard yards today!
Got very wet, but did the 30 mins
Busy day, but squeezed in an extra longer dog walk to get day 35.
Glad I got my Swim in earlier as just back from the dentist and feeling like I've been punched. Although mostly in the wallet!
Day 35 already 🙂
Ran yesterday but my IT Band is being a dick over ~7 miles these days. Any success on here sorting the issue? I cycle, stretch and yoga (did today) regularly so shouldn't be strength or flexibility - but then, I never feel particularly supple. Anyone stretch before running?
Back in the game! Have missed 8 days due to covid, though, nightmare. Back at karate tonight, snapping necks, smashing jaws and gouging eyes, lovely stuff!
17,340 steps there and back to the escooter repair wizard.Think the repair bill will be tougher.
One hour along the Tees on my E-bike.Not much sunlight again but at least the wind has dropped. Is everyone still ill?Healing vibes
Hanging in there even when possessed by the snot demon. Garmin stats headed a long way south and all I've managed these last three days are some 30min+ walks and a bit of collarbone rehab. Still feeling pretty grim, so no way I'm getting to the gym or the pool this week. If I miss some days, so be it no point pushing yourself when all you want to do is lie in bed with a lemsip drip 😉
Hmm just looked at the stats, HR up 10%-15%, HRV down by over 25%, body battery only recharging 25-30 overnight. That's worse than after a night ride and some beer. Not sure I've ever seen my HRV that low. Still at least feeling like this, it's very easy to follow my rule* of no alcohol in the week other than after a night ride.
*to be honest. it's more guidance most of the time;)
Pentlands running last night. Still in it.
I'm still in with exception of one day where I had a 3.5 hour drive down to Glasgow during storm Amy after work and just didn't have the time.
I have started running again though so that has helped fit in a few days of exercise and I'm back on Zwift. Not gonna lie, a few days have been a struggle and I've had to rely on extended dog walks. I think I'm starting to feel the benefit though 😊
10,500 steps still in it.Unlike you folks my lungs are fine but my left knee/elbow are giving me pain.Just gonna blast through then collapsed at the Doctor's in January
it's very easy to follow my rule* of no alcohol in the week other than after a night ride.
A brilliant excuse to night ride 8 days a week!
I'm still rolling along. Rides, walks, home gym sessions. 35 degrees yesterday so different (probably easier) issues to contend with.
Yesterday was Yoga and a walk. Today, bouldering this evening.
I've entered the Edinburgh New Year's Day triathlon as motivation to get some swimming in and hopefully capitalise on the mad gainz.
Still going, though I've barely been on the forum due to the ongoing shit show it has become.
I've had a couple of running events at the weekends (got a 10k PB) so my overall exercise has reduced a bit. I've been mixing it up with yoga and strength stuff to keep the streak going.
Weather is obviously turning now so I'll be trying to make the most of the next few weeks.
90 minutes Z2 in Watopia while it rained down outside…
Two hour hike in pleasant sunshine around three parks.Followed by a pint if John Smith's.Painkiller for my knee.
Right today is the first one in a week or so I've not felt I've been phoning it in.
Still not 100% recovered, but good enough to get out for a few hours. Forecast suggest something indoor tomorrow 😉
Illuminator 15 miler completed last night, my final "event" of the year. That should mean I'm freed up to do a bit more leisure riding rather than concentrating on training and recovery.
Did a 55 Kms yesterday but was a little slower than normal. Forgot what a pain in the bottom wearing winter gear on the bike is. Felt like I was riding wearing a duvet.
Dogs obviously demanded breakfast/walk at their "normal" time so we were back from a long dog walk by 830am! Doesn't feel like a proper "exercise event" even tho we were out for over 5kms. So I think it's time to return to the Turbo this afternoon.
^ I’m also taking the piss a bit. I am so shagged out from cramming in gym sessions last week just so I could join a group ride yesterday (which nearly finished me off) that today’s ‘exercise’ was a walk from the cafe where I had a big fat breakfast to the seafront for a coffee and pastry then back again. I’m almost ashamed of myself.
Lots of weights this weekend both indoor and outdoor, with hiking and stretches thrown in for recovery .Was starting too feel a bit weary but I just blasted through it.
did kettlebell workout monday evening, yoga on Tuesday, 20k gravel ride on Wednesday night in the rain , then a 15k post storm night ride in the woods on Thursday, lunchtime skatepark on friday- fell over got asked 'if i was a beginner too' by a kid, then skatebowl with the kids yesterday morning and a bit of skating this morning and just finished 40mins of yoga
.
Yesterday was an early morning to marshall at an SCX race, then went for a brisk walk up Arthur's Seat to get a sweat on and make 10k steps.
Today, my training for NY day triathlon started with an early swim. Haven't swum since holiday in July... and it showed. Thankfully have 2 months to sort that out.
I may be pushing the boundaries of what qualifies, but it is exercise outside my usual routine, so I'm claiming
If you're doing something you wouldn't do except for the challenge, then that's both the rule and the spirit for me 🙂
After a week wrestling the snot demon, I'm mostly back to what passes as full fitness. Nearly 5 hilly/woody miles with the dogs yesterday followed by a 50 min swim. Same today and hurty/nasty circuits class later.
Dusted off the Turbo on Sunday for the first time in about 2 months. Absence has not improved the experience:(
2.5k in outdoor pool at David Lloyd this morning, followed by a yoga class 👍
I really must get back to the pool. How do you guys motivate yourselves for it.I like outdoor swimming in summer but this seems a chore
How do you guys motivate yourselves for it.
the gym I use has a 25m slightly heated outdoor pool. It’s open all year round, only closing if weather particularly nasty, or if ice is on the paving slabs.
Kids aren’t allowed in it apart from weekend slots and similarly in school holidays and it’s not warm enough for a splash about, so it’s never too busy. I normally have a lane to myself and regularly am the only person in the whole pool, so it’s not a chore to use..
That plus the cost of David Lloyd membership provides good motivation!
^Not the choice I face unfortunately.Just have to MTFU and head to the Dolphin Centre. Not sure if sea swimming is a sensible option at this time of year.
Well, I injured myself. Strained my back putting a light suitcase in the car. I'm not sure if it was general fatigue contributing to it.
Anyway I took 5 days and did some gentle stuff. Nothing I'd count for this, but keeping the body moving. Then a few 30 min walks.
My back is feeling better so I've had some gentle football over the weekend, walking to see some bison and then balance board and some bodyweight exercises again.
.How do you guys motivate yourselves for it.I like outdoor swimming in summer but this seems a chore
My wife likes to swim. She's a better swimmer than me as well so that's my target 🙂 I started because it was good shoulder rehab and although I don't love it, it's a good 45 min workout for me and if it means I can skip a turbo session, then it's done the job. I've never swum outside other than in the sea, and while the Wye is basically next door, I'm not swimming in that! Indoor Pool all the way.
I missed a week at the HIIT gym circuit through illness. Seems to have got about 50% harder while I was away!
