Day 12 - last entry should have said day 11 oops. Tuesday swim day, it's free and I'm crap at swimming so it's a new habit to develop. Actually quite enjoying it, which is not something ever been able to say. Going with the other half and one of my kids helps that I think. 12 lengths, worn out and horrid cramp in my foot yet again.

I want to swim but pool times round here are not helpful! What yoga apps are we all using?

Feel like death warmed up, may struggle tomorrow as I think Covid may finally have caught up with me. Ride tonight was, interesting...

Any hints for gentle 30mins whilst coughing and dealing with a temp?

I'll restart my Zwift sub on Saturday so hopefully be around if there's a ride on Sunday and then start getting back into whatever races I can.
Looking forward to it (I think!)

Felt a bit low yesterday so did an hour half hour of yoga and then worked on my lower back again with my foam roller.
Much better today, 1 hour of weights and resistance training with the lad who if I’m being honest, boot camped his old man!!😀

Last run of week for of C25K today - I normally do it at lunchtime but was scuppered by an overunning call, was surprised at how much it annoyed me having to run after work, I lacked energy but wasn't gonna miss it! I've started to add some strength stuff into it too, press-ups, bicep curls and the like, which means it's tight to fit it all into an hour. A scheduling rethink is required... I've never been this committed to regular exercise! 🙂

Zwift Academy #3 last night. I went for the longer version and managed it well enough.

Yoga with Kassandra tonight. Working on the hips a bit as that always improves my running.

Yeah ... I love the French ones. As you say, a little taste of summer.

But did a "proper" Sufferfest last night and in the last week have thrown around the kettlebell a few times, couple of runs, Yoga continuing every day... all good.

re Yoga ... This is what I've done ..... On youtube pick a 20 min beginner vid (just pick one where the person's voice doesn't grate you :)) and then keep doing the SAME one for a week or two. By doing the same vid you'll get to learn the "routine" of getting into and out of the same basic stretches and so after a few times you'll be able to actually concentrate more on the actual stretches themselves, rather than how to get into and out of them. I saw improvement over the same 10 or so stretches to spur me on and as a side note by doing the same vid l didnt go down Youtube rabbit holes and waste my workout time.

One thing I've learnt is ..... NO EGO !!

In terms of flexibility..... where you are, is were you are !! It is all good, you WILL slowly improve if you are consistent. Which is what this thread is all about right?

The fact that we have time, the inclination and the ability to even start is a blessing.

Enjoy

I really like the On Location stuff - good workouts and I like Mike's quick tourist explanation bits (even if they are sometimes a bit stiff - he's not a complete natural in front of the camera!). Just wish there were a few more of them in the 45-60 min range.

And run done with the dog this morning. Could certainly feel yesterday's efforts in the legs!

Day 14, swim 2.6 km in 61 minutes, lunch time walk 3.4 km in 45 minutes with wombat. Plus the physio exercises for 1/2 hour. That’s me for today.

Pleased to have made it to the end of week 2.

Day 14 - around 90 mins overall (many breaks) shuffling around a skatepark. Took my lad to Stanley park outdoor skatepark in Blackpool since his school was closed for the day and I had plenty of flexi hours to use.
Don't know if vid will work, very rusty and stuff on the skates, plus they are too small so feet are sore now. May do a bit more exercise soon to make up for yesterday too.

Edit - video load into Flickr won't play here. So have a still image from said video instead, doing a slide down a rail.

Thanks @itsallgood and @Ro5ey, will look into both of those, a job for tonight. 🙂

Lunchtime 40 minute hillyish spin on the hybrid, trainers on M520s 'cause I can't find my shoes. Holy cow, I'm out of shape - but perversely enjoying trying to get back into it... 🙂

Get in your rubber, lad.

Been on the cusp here too, chesty cough all week so just a walk Wednesday lunchtime and yesterday too. But it was pleasant yesterday afternoon and I wasn't in a hurry to get anywhere for once, so snuck in a cheeky half hour on the pump track on my road bike, not sure what the natives thought of a middle aged bloke rolling round on skinny wheels but I enjoyed myself!

Day 14 was a ride up to Cairngorm Mountain car park, playing with the drone on the way there.

I might get some video footage up later.

Today will be indoor exercise. It's gusting over 50mph at the moment.

I found some motivation and got in the river. The water was around 12 degrees so I was very glad of the wetsuit. Ended up swimming for 35 minutes and felt much better for doing it.

I'm out... massive failure on Tuesday evening!

My goal was only ever to do fairly low-level exercise, and this seemed to be going ok, but on Tuesday evening I developed severe lower back pains. As bad as I can imagine having. Shooting pains too.
My partner rang the Christie; they rang an ambulance and within an hour I was full of morphine and in the process :-/
5 hours in the back of an ambulance waiting to get into the hospital, 24 hours in A+E, then 24 hours on the acute medical unit. Back home now though.

The fear was that my advanced prostate cancer had caused spinal compressions: this can rapidly lead to paralysis. The good news is that I was given an MRI scan and my spine appears to be free from cancer... Hooray!! It's merely oseophytes that are pinching things!

Painkillers it is then. I'll be back up and moving soon... just a little disappointed to have lost my "exercise streak" so soon.

Keep going folks 🙂

Starting to feel like habit now. Either a morning or lunchtime ride. Just a quick blast out. Getting a bit fitter I think. No lighter yet but feeling decent.
Making a few better life choices… do I really want that beer if I’m riding at 7am?

2 hour solo around swinley/crowthorne woods last night. 30 minutes weights on the living room floor today.
Definitely would not have done that without the challenge. As a bonus, I was previously debating going and getting a third layer and my slippers out of the cupboard, now Im quite happy in a long sleeved t-shirt.

First run of week 5 of C25K - knocked the warm-up and cooldown walks off so I have enough time to do some bodyweight strength bits and pieces. As an unexpected bonus, without the added ten minutes of walking, my pace has improved somewhat! 🙂

Well my 100 days went to shit on about day 5! I'm gutted, but my head just hasn't been in the right place and I was just putting additional stress on myself to fit stuff in that I really didn't want to do. I've been limited in what I can do recently by injuries (Achilies) & illness (Gout) and just going for a walk was litterally a pain. New bike mean't I had some enthusiasm, but you can't always fit in a decent ride.

I missed a day then carried on, then missed another day, then my achillies tendonitis came back, my gout had got loads better with the meds but has come back again this week, so I'm just hobbling around, andI can't even fit any of my bike shoes on my left foot!

Really pissed off, but I'm determined to lose some weight and get more exercise. I'm currently on a vegetarian and no booze diet to try and combat the gout, so hopefully that'll help.

Anyway, good effort the rest of you. Keep going. 💪

@ads678 I'm a serial achillies tendinitis sufferer (16yrs) & find that a good 5min fast warm up walk & equivalent warm down walk at the start & end of any runs keeps it at bay.

Looks like my 30mins is going to be a run in heavy rain later, joy of joys but good to keep it going.

Gentle ride around local bridleways and river bank yesterday, weather was beautiful so made the most of it and was out for 90 minutes!
Unexpected day off today so went out on the road before it started raining. Out for nearly three hours, definitely feeling the change in season, very windy and autumnal but enjoyed being out.
Helping my friend with his garden office so will be on the bike again tomorrow.

Second fail day today, had a really long day at work followed by a really crap commute home so motivation is non-existent. Going for a ride tomorrow morning though so back on it ready for the next week. I'm going to still aim for 90/100 as my goal as going from virtually 0 to 7 days a week straight is probably a bit too tough, hopefully I can keep things going though as I'm losing weight and feel loads better generally.

Great to read that you’re back on it Stanley.

My big worry is catching an Autumn lurgy.

This is a real problem. I really felt rough earlier this week and felt that i was definitely on the downhill. I had a couple of easy days and I’m now feeling as strong as ever.
It’s really important to listen to your body and take it easy when you’re not feeling 100%. This challenge is about maintaining fitness for next year. Definitely not about pushing yourself through pain or illness.

Another YouTube yoga session this evening. Sometimes feels like a bit of a cheat but, at my age, I'm probably getting more benefit from the stretches and flexibility than I do from an hours riding.

Not posted an update yet so I thought I'd chuck something in. I've settled into a bit of a routine now. I try to get a couple of zwift rides in at the weekend. A couple of days during the week. And make up the rest with either weights or bodyweight exercises. Or both.
I've been limited in what I can do by the recovering shoulder. And my fitness had taken a bit of a nose dive. To try and keep the whole thing in check I've been trying to keep the riding intensity steady, and build back up.
Today was the first day my legs felt a bit worn out. I'd been planning to have a gentle day anyway, so I had a 30 mins walk with the family, and then 30 minutes on the balance board.

thats 3 fridays in a row ive managed to get into the gym before leaving work, 15mins run (hoping to get that up to 30mins before the clocks change) and 25mins of weights circuits.

my triceps dont work this morning!

not sure on todays plan yet and have a half day of house move to get done first, which is dangerous, might be a yoga session or two, like last saturday.

Cheers folks. It's great to have a challenge but I think we all need to be aware of when we are run down, have a virus, etc, and then take it easy for a day or so.
Planning on a really gentle resistance workout later. Hope to get the turbo set-up finished too.

@jeffl - try something from Kassandra on YouTube. She has a number of beginner level videos. Also don't be too disappointed if you cant manage to get all the way into some of the poses. She often gives alternatives and you'll find some of them become easier with practice.

I did Zwift Academy workout 4 this morning. Again, I did the long version and I think it was about right. I have Workouts 5 and 6 and then the final ride to do before the 9th so that'll fill in a few days this coming week.

Had an early morning blast round Cwmcarn this morning, great but did expose my complete lack of practice at going up hills! Lack of power for the punchy bits and a complete lack of timing for unweighting the wheels over obstacles made it frustrating at times.

Was great to see the mushrooms have come out in force though thanks to the rain, they're everywhere!

Nope, seeing changes already. Weight is going in the right direction and I'm definitely getting a boost in stamina. Hoping the power will follow on soon, have booked a muddy ride event just after Christmas as a target and it's a tough one if it's wet.

Day 16 - Dad and lads mooch around Healey nab, did about 90mins including pedalling from car and back to it. Wrist is a bit achey, hoodlums riding proper off road bikes illegally put me off staying any longer. Riding on the trails and without helmets with a big noisy motorbike strikes me as being a tad dodgy and I'd rather keep my bike to myself.

Side note, can I request that everyone who puts an entry for their day start it if as Day xx please? I'm using this as a log for each day and it just makes it easier to see which day I'm in haha

Day 99 - sorry @keefezza! and apologies in advance @welshfarmer as your not going to like my post! I started this at 94.5kg and I'm already down to 89.9kg (yes I'm using decimal places!). I suffer from MILF issues (medication induced lifelong fatness) so I put on weight really easily. I battled down to 79kg last Christmas but as soon as I let exercise drift the weight piles on. 15kg weight gain in a few months is scary! Aiming for 85kg by Christmas. A few Zwift sessions this week. I'm doing the Gravel Grinder 12wk program so hopefully this'll keep me focused 'till the end!

Day 17, nice long 3 km swim in 68 minutes. Went really well for most of the swim, last 200m were like swimming through treacle.
Still managed to keep all my sessions on this 100 day thing in the lower HR zones (zone 3 118 to 134) as I figured this will prevent me over doing it and so far it’s working.

Some great pics on the Strava activities.
