Short 10 mile spin through the woods and back via the canal. Not at all intense but good for a bit of fun.

Holy shitballs. It's been that long since I trained legs that already after only 16 hours I'm already sitting down very carefully. **** knows what they'll be like tomorrow...😂

Day 8 - managed a couple of walks to school plus some other bits of mooching. Around 2 1/2 hours of actual moving. Haven't managed to do proper exercise yet, that may be for tomorrow.

Last day in the Lakes, ran yesterday after Ambleside shopping and cafe as it was pouring. Really clear air today.

Needed spring onions so rode to the supermarket and back along the river which means I’ve done my extra 30 minutes and some. The idea of using the bike when you would usually use the car really appeals to me.

Ran out of time today for the Zwift race I planned so it'll just be a walk to the shops to get some milk in a few minutes. Don't really need to get some until tomorrow evening but it ticks a box and saves me forgetting!

Another march today. Managed nearly 8km and the knee is holding up. Might try a run in a couple of weeks! Out on the bike tomorrow after the Dad Taxi duties are done.

Day 9 - recovered from my back mood of day 8 (with no booze for once on a Friday night as we didn't have any and I'm trying to save money). Woke up knackered but fed and got on with a half hour of exercise via a homeworkout app. Now for a dreaded friend of 7yr olds birthday party.

managed to get to the gym yesterday, 15mins on the X-Trainer with an arms bias and then 15mins of weights circuits.
legs are still shot from mid week exertions so thinking some yoga this morning and then something mild this afternoon...

Didn't manage anything yesterday due to a camping mishap, spent Only just got the tent up before midnight. Go Aping later and a bit of walking so we'll make up for it today.

Day 9, turbo session using the wahoo systm app, 26.57 km in 62 minutes at average of 144 watts, which I’m happy with. First time I’ve managed 60 mins cycling for about a year, so naturally it must be down to this 100 day thing.

Plan to take it easy for the rest of the day.

Walked into town for a flu and Covid booster jab. On the walk back I stopped for a coffee and Cake, no cherry today. Eight flights of stairs x 2. Will try harder tomorrow.

Yep. Asthmatic here. Tend to pick up anything cold/flu-like doing the rounds. Also, when working hard I can struggle a lot more in cold air. It just seems to hurt my chest way more.

In cold weather I end up with a small cough every so often. Got an inhaler for exercise induced asthma. Does help.

Today was a ride on steep stuff but tyres too soft so took it easy. All off the back of bowhill lovely day for it

Spent a few hours today walking round a county fair dodging traction engines (full size and miniature) so that counts towards today, especially as I resisted the doughnut stall 🤣

A short hour out in the local woods today, planed more but the body wasn't willing so just did a few hill reps before heading back.

Wouldn't have got out today if it wasn't for the challenge, far too easy to stay in bed so that's a big win.

Is it Day 10 now?

I know I missed a couple of days this week, but yesterday did a 104 mile road ride with a mate, and this morning we did 12 miles as a recovery ride. To an excellent cafe for a slap up breakfast.

And a much better 28K outing today, helping out with my club's annual race. Up at 6, which wasn't ideal, and it was bloody freezing, but all good fun!

Just a walk here too, but had lifted 100kg of woodburner up two flights of stairs at my cousins this morning then done 3 hours of dry stone walling so we'll call it quits.

Day 10 - around 1.hrs walking and 30mins ish of homeworkout app exercise.
Nothing exciting but it's fairly strenuous for me, still building strength back up in the wrist. Keeping everything bodyweight, not fussed about weights or gym work.

Just over 3hrs of biking today.
25 minutes on a bike, around 3hrs on a tandem!
Decent ride with nice people.
Join a tandem club today for fun rides!
Bury tandem club for the blind and partially sighted. New riders up front always needed.

Day 10, very sore back from an hours cycling on the turbo yesterday, so thought I’d go easy today - 3.2 km walk with wombat the dog in 40 minutes.

Realised this morning that since the start of this here 100 day, I’d forgotten to do my physio exercises which I’m supposed to do 2-3 times daily, doing them today has reactived the glutes and core again and hey presto no back pain. Thank bloody hell for that.

Interestingly for the exercise data fans, garmin had my HRV as unbalanced and much higher than normal this morning, hinting at overtraining or not allowing enough time for recovery and I have to admit I felt knackered and sore after 9 days of this. So maybe there’s something in all this science after all.

Started a Zwift program today. Began with a ramp test for FTP. The point of an FTP test is to get as low a score as possible right? Right?

I cycled 14 miles to a friends on Saturday, did a full 9 hours helping him build his new garden office and then rode home. Yesterday was again an extended dog walk and in the evening I managed and hour with the foam roller to iron out a twinge in my back. I have got up this morning feeling much better and now looking forward to a bike ride after work.
Looking like autumn is definitely here, this is where the real challenge begins.

Woke up with a chesty cough this morning, will have to rethink strategy, I'll do strength stuff and a walk up the fell at lunch time rather than the planned run. Also need to sort out a plan for a gym as the annexe/holiday let is nearing completion and has been designated "out of bounds" and the joists in the spare bedroom aren't up to huffing and puffing heffalump action

I’ve been trying to use this as an incentive to bump up my weekly distance, as my routine went all to pot back in May when one of our dogs died very suddenly, and then Mrs D_J ruptured her Achilles.
Saturday was a slow paced 6-7km walk, which is the longest herself has managed since she injured herself, and Sunday started as a follow on easy gravel ride, but after about 5km her Achilles was starting to nip, so I buddied her back home, then went out again and rattled out 55km round our local gravel tracks.

Since I last posted (which was last Monday):

Tuesday: 4.1 miles of walking to do school runs and stuff
Wednesday: 2 miles walked and a 7 mile MTB ride to get some cash out
Thursday: 3.5 miles walked and some basic body weight exercises at lunch
Friday: As above
Saturday: 2.8 miles of walking and a bunch of DIY lugging/clambering in the afternoon
Sunday: 17 miles on the MTB

I suspect today will be a blowout as have already been half passed out on sofa for over an hour this morning tryin to shake off the early signs of a migraine.

I feel like I should start a post like this with "Dear diary,"

Late to update...but Saturday and Sunday were long walks with the dog. I couldn't manage any more than that after destroying my legs on Friday.

I think that the weekends will always be recovery exercises for me, doing weights and a 5km run every weekday leaves me pretty tired. Saying that, I'm off out on a bike ride at 7am on Sunday...

Sunday: Did not feel 100% after Covid and Flu Jab, waled into town and back (about 4 miles) DIY- building up a set of wardrobes.

Monday: Youtube balance exercise set and a fast walk into Town and back.

It is hard to build exercise into a working day, I have to be more disciplined.

Not posted since this started but going really well and starting to see noticable fitness gains already. I’ve managed to mix up road, gravel, mtb and zwift rides with a few 5k ish runs and one walk. At the weekend I went out for a road ride on sat and MTB on sunday and felt strong on both picking up plenty of strava PBs.

Only had one day which was a real struggle. Late home after work and being dad taxi for my daughter’s evening activities. Really didn’t want to do anything, but forced myself on to the turbo and did a 30 min training session.

Just got to keep it going…

Weather stopped play... I'd planned a 10k run from Rhenigidale to Tarbert along the Postie's Path but it was too windy, wet and cold to be undertaking that so I settled on a blustery post-lunch stroll with Mrs S, poring over the remains of a cold war radar station.

Day 10 - had almost zero time so did a 10min yoga thing on an app the other half uses.
Not 30 mins but still more than I would ordinarily do.

Yoga frustrates the hell out of me, I'm not even slightly flexible and have no idea what the poses are. It takes me too long to figure out what I'm supposed to do, this app seems to flit from pose to pose without any settling time. By the time I've figured out what I'm supposed to be doing, she's 3 poses on from what I was doing. Something to work on I guess!

Visiting a customer in Ireland today, I'm England based. So run first thing to the beach and back. Delays on flights and planes mean not getting home until 10pm, so glad I did it in the morning.

It does help if you're repeating the same workout as you get used to the flow. There are lots of variations too. Some do flow from pose to pose. Others hold the positions longer. It depends what are trying to achieve. I've flitted though a few YouTube channels and found that some suit me more than others.

I’m pretty good at fitting in exercise most days, but this challenge does make a difference on the days when you’ve been busy with other stuff and might be tempted to just sit down and do nothing.

We were in France on holiday when the challenge started so fitting in rides and a couple of runs was fairly easy. However got the ferry back from Amsterdam to Newcastle on Saturday, so spent 30 minutes walking all around the ferry, I think getting some fairly quizzical looks from some fellow passengers.

Then after a long drive back north on Sunday, I managed to get out for a 30min walk in the dark (that came as a shock to the system) after unpacking everything.

Back to normal now, with a run yesterday and again today.

Day 12 - is it really only 12 ? Turbo trainer session using Wahoo SYSTNM app, 20 km in 45m.

So far haven't missed a day.

This challenge is making a difference, I'd never normally get up at 5:30 am to squeeze in a session before work. If I didn't though I'd never get the chance, or be remotely motivated later to do anything.

Just a 2.4 mile walk around the reservoir at lunchtime today - honked it down, being cold burns calories, right? 🙂 Had intended to hit the bag after work but felt pretty tired so gave that a miss - this is a long-term thing, right...?

Did a Zwift group ride this evening. Was meant to be a sub 2w/kg ride but no ride leaders showed up so it turned into a race. I just held back in a small group plodding along then nicked the sprint after the main group had gone through for the last time. Childish but still fun.

Still a bit chesty so just weights/circuits again today. Boring!
