You don't need to be an 'investor' to invest in Singletrack: 6 days left: 95% of target - Find out more
Day #65 - early doors turbo session on the Wattbike before work, all I had time for was 51 minutes at 181w indicated 26 km. also went for a walk at lunchtime for 34 minutes. The early morning starts are starting to get tiring.
Day 65 was 90-odd minutes of Disc Golf in Inverness. It was fun, but next time I'm taking my own Frisbee. The provided discs don't fly very far. Horror of horrors, I was actually meeting up with my old boss for a catch-up and lunch. I know that will freak out some on this forum.
Day 66 was a Pie'n'pint ride to Boat of Garten with some pals. Lovely crunchy snow along the Speyside Way was great to ride on. Bloody cold nighht though.

Day 67: Rain finally stopped but the gravel was pretty soggy. Couldn't be arsed with crossing a 40cm floodway so shortened my ride a bit to 25km-ish.
Instead I narrowly skirted Death and got to see the wonky-eared roo again (i'm calling it Twitch).

Hoping to get a big ride in tomorrow.
33 according to Garmin. I’m 48 so happy with that
Bastard! I'm 41 apparently ... even though i'm younger than you!
What's your VO2 max?
That's great - you can definitely be happy with that.
Mine is about 8 under my actual age. Still a rather big number 😉 VoMax is 49 or 50 but really only every get that on the turbo so it's basically cheating. Still not missed a day but lost zero weight in the last 4 weeks. Pretending it's muscle mass 😉
Also having trumpeted my ability to achieve a zen like state on the treadmill, one of next weeks workouts looks a bit challenging. That's going to be a long time going nowhere quite slowly. I did manage a 55:30 10km at 1% incline last week. It hurt tho, this one I think is going to be fully testing and possibly overwhelming my boredom threshold!

@scotroutes - 10km was the longest I've done and I was counting down from about 7km in! If I can't do it/get bored then I'm not going to beat myself up. I've run more this year than ever before mostly because we bought the treadmill and I wanted to get som use out of it. But I'm not going to be a slave to the workouts.
Much prefer the shorter ones, like hill sprints and farlek and even over/unders. They are hard but they get it done in around 30 mins.
I like to use the treadmill in the gym to try and improve my speed outside by doing intervals. Takes a bit of the boredom away as well, mixing it up. Usually do 3 or 4 minutes of running fast (for me i.e. 5mins per k) then a minute walking at 6kph/10mins per k. I even managed nearly a k at 14kph which is something like 4.15min per k. Did 5k last night on the TM in 27.26 mins, and actually think I could go faster.
If I can take some of the speed or raise my pain threshold outdoors by going harder indoors then i'm happy. I guess I'll really see next spring when you get the warm sun on your back. Got to keep it up til then though....
I'm enjoying running, but I know that at over 100kgs, I have to take it easy so I don't kill my calfs or knees!
What day are we on now? 70ish?
Brisk 30 min walk, 30 mins going reasonably hard on the turbo, 30 mins Yoga. A day of 30s 🙂
Proper ride tomorrow so that's Friday-before-the-pub sorted.
Weekend weather suggests turbo/treadmill are going to see some action.
@scotroutes - I see on the other thread you're getting a treadmill? Mind me asking which one? We spent ages trying to match our requirements to our budget!
Adidas T19i. As usual, I was caught in analysis paralysis so ended up just picking something that looked OK, wasn't TOO large and not ridiculously expensive. I had a budget, found myself looking at treadmills about 50% more than that and then actually buying something a bit cheaper. I looked at the Sole F63 too, and a couple of others.
So, Day 67. Planned longer ride was postponed due to the snow conditions

I had a walk into town for some errands, then did some weights, stretches and yoga in my gym for a couple of hours.
I'm definitely missing my cardio this week.
@munrobiker I'm trying to determine whether your frosty trail ride was at the West End of the Pentlands - the Kips towards Spital Hill? But it looks more barren than that. I think.
Just a stroll today. After a pedal strike yesterday I bounced off my saddle and landed on my cocyx. It was remarkably sore and is causing me some grief today.
Nice pic @sandboy and @scotroutes that's proper snow you've had there!
We didn't need a folding treadmill so that narrowed the field a bit. Still went full rabbit hole on YT reviews etc. We really didn't want one with a big screen as the plan was to cast to the spare big TV as I knew I'd be using Zwift so didn't need anything on the treadmill. That meant we were left really with just a couple of choices. Ended up with the Reebok FR20Z which was their lowest "smart" model.
Did have an issue with the incline thing, but the support (from Sweatband) was surprisingly good and engineer came and sorted it in a couple of weeks. It's fine to run on, doesn't feel that much 'different' than Gym/hotel versions. In build programs are pretty weak but use zwift/garmin for that. Must have done 300km+ on it since Jan. And it was only used as an expensive clothes horse between about April and September:)
5k with the dog this evening for me. Slow as I have to keep stopping to see which bit of the woods she's buggered off into. Or rather which bit she pops out of!!
Bloody cold out there though and I didn't have my gloves on...
no idea what day we are on...... still not missed.
12 mile monday with mrs t.
34 miles tuesday in the snow... horrible wet stuff
14 mile yesterday in bitter cold wind
40 miles today mostly offroad, up to Emmerdale farm set. icy bitter cold ride. proper cold.
I had to wait at home today for a delivery so missed the chance of getting out in the decent weather spell before Bert arrives.
However, the delivery was my new treadmill, so I got that built up and did a couple of runs on it - a 10km and a shorter run to set it up with Zwift.

It's a bit of a beast, and fills the remaining space in my gym. I hope Mrs S gets good use out of it!
Monday was yoga, bodyweight Tues & Weds, yesterday skatepark at lunch and a nice ride round the local this evening before he rain washes away the snow
14 miler today to the wifes doctors.
hard work pays off. she has lowered her BP. she is off statins ( FH ). and has dropped 12lbs to boot.
all good.
Day 69: 11km/475m walk with Mrs Reeksy while the boys did their mtb coaching.
Well park run has been cancelled as it's snowing quite heavily in Leeds at the moment. 10k might have to wait til tomorrow now....
Yesterday in the FoD, Having to navigate around the forestry work (lost a good trail :() - Having decent waterproof troons and shoes makes such a massive difference this time of year. I hate cold, wet feet whereas in this gear I'm toasty toed and dry all the way round.
Been out with the dogs this morning. Absolutely filthy. So it's "Fatman to the Shedmobile" for a long turbo and post pedaling Yoga.

69- Was tempted to go for a run the snow but it has turned to rain. Instead, a Pilates session leaving me in a sweaty mess.

Took the dog out for a big walk in the shitty weather. Ground was like an ice rink, we (wife and I) both nearly went down a few times!
Dog was playing with another and running around like loons, when the went to stop they just carried on sliding down the tow path!
Day 70, and it's happy birthday to me. I'm officially a pensioner now.
I headed out on the Fatbike to check trail conditions for the Monday evening run.

There are a few slidy patches but I reckon another 24 hours should just leave some very wet trails.

Mrs S is away sunning herself on some distant island, so the birthday celebrations were a bit muted

Still, off to the pub in a few minutes for some consolatory beers with a couple of pals.
Tiny Tim?
Day 71: First morning I've woken up really not feeling it. Skipped a longer ride and took Reeksy1 for an hour of gravel pootling when he'd finished his school work.
Happy belated birthday @Scotroutes.
2xTurbo, 1 Yoga, 1 pilates, 2 short-ish but very wet dog walks over the weekend. Ended up doing a shed load of work so I had some spare time in the week to give the wellies some proper beatings! Lovely morning here, but still lots of local flooding.

Would we say raving counts as exercise? Did 19,000 steps between midnight and 3am.
Another failure for me. Ill yesterday so couldn't face even gentle zwifting. Going upstairs got me feeling tired/raised heartrate so probably not a good idea anyway.
If it wasn't wind and heavy rain I might have dragged myself around the block for a short walk but probably ended up spending at least 20 hours of Sunday in bed.
Think I've missed 3 so far, will have to make use of the Xmas to new year period to make up for it.
Day 71. I had a free morning so did a couple of hours in the gym (treadmill walking, weights, yoga). Being a Monday, I was also out for the club run. 11km over some very wet but snow/ice free trails.

Someone at the club suggested we do should do Marcothon, a 31 day running streak in December, so I might overlap that with this challenge.
https://runabc.co.uk/marcothon-back-in-2024
Day 72: disappointed to only get 1km into a run before my lower calf/achilles tendon caused me to stop and walk home. Got another 3km of walking to and from station to work so not a total disaster.
Multi day update
Day #67 - turbo session for 51 minutes at 183w indicated 26 km
day #68 - 2.46 km pool swim in 48 minutes and 1/2 hour walk with Wombat later
day #69 - wattbike turbo session for 1 hour 20 minutes at 177w, indicated 40lm.
and then the wheels came off. Two events have scuppered me completing this challenge.
Sunday accident at home leaving me with horrible lacerations and cuts on my lower legs, I won’t be able to go near a pool for weeks. The thought of getting sweat from cycling into these cuts is not appealing either.
monday got a cold and bacterial infection in my lungs, now on steroids etc and I did ask the GP if it was possible to continue the challenge and she didn’t recommend it. So that’s me - I’ll watch from the sidelines for a week or so and get back into it in Dec. I do like the idea to run every day in Dec…
some great pics posted and belated happy birthday to @scotroutes.
I’m happy, almost back to where I was before my lurgy.
Running with Bert at the weekend was interesting, at times it was heavy going! Chose running because riding would have been dangerous, especially on the road.
A weights session last night and another run this morning.
The dogs have still been getting long evening walks, it’s just peaceful being out in the darkness, it could become a habit.
Another CrossFit for me and after previously being delighted that I can climb a rope, do a few pull-ups and do some ring dips today I have found that my wall walks are rubbish and toes-to-bar laughable. However I do recommend giving this stuff a go as it is sort of (perverse and with a dose of pain) fun to try 🙂
Someone at the club suggested we do should do Marcothon, a 31 day running streak in December,
Wow - that would be chilly, i'd recommend you do it in clothes 😉
Monday was yoga then some crunches, bicycle something's , press and planking.
Tonight was an hour or so in the gym.
I might try that running thing in Jan, reckon I'll struggle over the Christmas period though.
@walowiz - nightmare, hope you're better soon.
@walowiz - I'm sure I'm not the only one "intrigued" by the home accident. I hope it not that your safe word didn't work 🙂 Hope you mend quickly.
@bonni - sorry to lose another. Hopefully you've seen enough improvement to maybe kick off a more permanent change though. Remember not to try too hard, too soon.
Wife's birthday yesterday so extended the dog walk before heading off to the pub 🙂 Plan was to do something cardio when I got home but really couldn't be bothered so dug out an old 30 min YT Pilates Core Video. Feeling that today!
Out tonight so just time for an hour on Turbo. Don't really feel I'm trying that hard at the moment, but still not missed a day.
Feel like crap for some reason today. Full of cold and sore throat! Was going to go for a run tonight but just took the dog for a extended walk instead. 6.7k 1hr 20 mins.
Cop out but did something extra and was still a sweaty mess was when I got in!!
@ads678, thats exactly how I was, just take it easy, extended dog walks are definitely the order of the day. Not a cop out! As I found out, you can only recover if you take your foot off the gas.
The weather here today has been pretty awful for outdoor exercise, I got home and used my stationary bike in the garden for an hour which I strangely enjoyed.
A relaxing yoga session with Kassandra today, and then out with the running club this evening to try some urban orienteering in the sub-zero temperatures. I'm sure the good folks of Aviemore were wondering why there were so many folks with headtorches running around the wee alleys.
Cop out but did something extra and was still a sweaty mess was when I got in!!
It all counts!
Day 74: Steamy early morning mixed local ride of 25km. A bit knackered but still gave it a nudge in a few spots.
Day 75: 3/4 of the way there... did a shed gym circuit session.
Day 74 - feeling like I could be on the cusp of a cold but stuck with it and went for a frosty run in the sun.
@sprootlet - she looks like she could crush your head/other body part between those massive shoulders! I'm not opening that. It'll give me nightmares 🙂
Gave myself a bit of a kick up the bum as I feel I've been phoning it in this last couple of weeks. So tough hour hike with the mutts, Yoga with Ash (I'm sure his are way harder than the other YT Yoga channels I use) and nearly an hour of threshold running on the treadmill. MTB ride tomorrow and then that horrible 14km run Sunday for which I have a cunning plan- half on the treadmill and the rest outside if it's not lashing it down...
@ton making full use of your retirement there.. good numbers!
