Easier week this week with Pilates, very tough easy half hour on the turbo, walk, stretching and likely weights today. Body was screaming out for dialing it back a bit.

The tail end of the year is normally when I pile on the weight and lose the fitness, this challenge is doing the complete opposite and I've even got My Fitness Pal back on the go tracking what I eat!

Amazing how many steps you do in airports. It's about the only good thing about them, other than as a useful place to board a plane 😉

Ride tonight, see if the legs are better than last week. Asthma appears to have finally buggered off after nearly three weeks.

@reeksy - wouldn't have wanted to be outside when those icy nuggets were coming down!

With Trick-or-Treating on the cards tonight, and a bus work day, I had to get creative so did mobility & isometric exercises during a department comms call. Camera and mic off to prevent the sweating and grunting from distracting the presenters.

Day #46 - pool swim 2.5 km in 49 minutes, I’m quietly ok with getting todays done at all, as I woke up feeling like death warmed up. The swim was very slow, but all done.

Another gym session this.morning but the afternoon featured a visit to Loch Vaa for another tradition.

We've been dressing up for Halloween swims since covid.

First time I've been in the water for a couple of months so I was surprised not to get too much of a shock. With water temp at 8.9c and air at 14.4c it wasn't even cold standing around eating cake afterwards.

Blimey, proper weather 🙂 We got caught in one in Molini in Sept and I've never been so grateful to be able to hide under a tree!

MTB ride was defo better last night. Did more climbing, was less knackered. Still not full out of this cold/snot thing tho. Also coincidentally had the joy of the 'are you dead yet' annual health check. All indicators (weight, HR, BP) going in the right direction, however my 'cheese cholesterol'  number went from H'mm' to two raised eyebrows. Looks like a 100 days of swaps might be the next thing on the horizon 🙁

Easy run today I think and post run Yoga. Another big ride planned tomorrow. Away for work next week so the 30 min hotel challenge begins.

Had the choice between an easy looking 'short sprints' and the 'hardest workout in the programme'- so went with the sprints but did attempt to follow Running With Ash's 20 min post run Yoga. Found that quite hard!

I might even swerve a beer tonight to make the best of a good looking weather forecast  and favourite route tomorrow. Worrying times 😉

19km running in the Pentlands, was intended to be a full skyline but a man down so saving that for his return. No bad thing, wasn't feeling it - bit bodily fatigued from Thursday's isometrics.

In an effort to avoid a) becoming a pair of legs with a body that exists to support them and b) numb genitals I went shopping yesterday for a 20kg kettlebell and a new saddle.

I now have a routine in place to do 10 of something when I walk past the kettlebell (curls, presses, squats, lunges) and am about to see if the Specialized BG range is any better for my sore sit bones.

New saddle seems to work, very obviously different to the last one in how it sits. Ended up doing a relatively mild ride, but might step that up tonight.

Also started the day with some kettlebell swings.

@walowiz - I'd really recommend going to a proper class to at least get started. Yin yoga classes are a good place to start. Having a teacher to watch and make sure you're doing the poses properly in a way that won't lead to injury is really helpful, especially when you're a cyclist who is probably a lot less flexible around the hips than most.

Anyway, I finally slipped yesterday - got took sudden by something Saturday night and wasn't well enough yesterday to do anything but I'll be back on it today. Previous week was all bike riding which was GREAT.

Ride with my dad-

Ride on some of the trails that got me into MTB

Also started getting some Strava top tens again which is a good sign of recovery.

Week before I did a couple of runs by the river Severn which were delightful.

Nice pics @munrobiker.

Easy couple of days for me. Woody hike Sunday with just the one dog (other one managed to make herself lame) and just 20 mins Yoga as was driving down to Sussex for work. Should have brought my trainers as lovely run along the river here. Instead hauled myself out of bed at 0630 and had Charlie Follows stretch me into some kind of shame for a day of sit down meetings and then 3.5 hour driving home.

Might do a run when I get back. Depends on time.

Agree on Yoga - before Covid I did loads of classes and I'll be going back sometime soon. Quite hard to follow some of the YT vids especially if they move between poses quickly. My fav are Charlie Follows, Yoga with Adrianne and (from a recommendation on this thread) Running with Ash.

Unfortunately, today is going to have to be my first where I just don’t have enough  energy to even walk the dogs. I have been struggling with a sore throat and runny nose for the last week and knew after my run yesterday morning that I’m not getting any better until I rest and give myself half a chance.

Last week was crazy busy with work and I made the mistake of soldiering on when I should have taken it easy. I’m disappointed as everything has been going well.

Day #50 - lovely morning walk with daughter no. 1 and wombat, leisurely 2.6 km in 40 minutes. Turbo session later, 50 minutes at 170w, indicated 25km, I’d meant to do an hour, but cut short by 10 minutes due to friggin’ cramp in the belly of my right calf, nearly jumped off the Wattbike due to how painful it was.

Day 50 - and now we can begin counting down 🙂

40 minutes of weights this morning and then out for a fairly gentle (Z2) 7km run with the club this evening.

I "forgot" I'd bought a new running light during the Wiggle/CRC sale so charged it up earlier and tried it tonight. It's a silva Trail Speed 5XT, which does 1200 lumen for 6 hours or so, but the battery is a bit of a monster for haviung strapped to my head. Thankfully, there's an extension cable and the option to carry it in a pack. it has a bike bar mount and helmet mount too so it might get pressed into service for riding at some point.

PXL_20241104_184227103

A smaller-than-usual group tonight as some had headed up Craigellachie instead. I was in favour of a more gentle option after yesterdays exertions.

Day 51: lunchtime run smashing my previous 5 k PB as I was trying to keep up with my 17 year old son. Unsurprisingly, he smoked me and was somehow not a sweaty mess at the end of it. I got a free calf strain as a reward.

I had to take a day off today to take my mom to an appointment so ended up we a free afternoon, got home and couldn’t resist going out for a very gentle 20 miles on the road. Absolutely no wind whatsoever, exceptionally rare for Norfolk and it’s been the same since Monday.
So I’m back on it, feeling positive that I just need to ease off for a few days.

Didn't do Yoga or Hike this morning due to deep depression on waking up and reading news. Should be fresh for night ride later tho.

I am still plodding on, glad to see at least some of us are getting a sight of the sun.

I had lurgy mid october so had a spell of just doing some walking. Back on the bike now, managed an afternoon ride on Monday that turned into a night ride over Rivelin, Stanage & Burbage

blacka

Today headed out through Holmesfield to Baslow, then towards Hassop, Longstone Edge to Eyam, back up along Froggat, Totley Moss then back down through Blacka Moor.

Curbar

There were promises of a bit of cloud break up, but didn't get any. At least the ground is pretty dry for the time of year.

Day #52 - turbo session on the Wattbike, 55 minutes at 175w, indicated 27.6 km. Have felt really under the weather all day, yet somehow the ride was super easy which doesn’t really tally with how I feel. But the zone 2 indoor rides is doing the trick, the cycling is feeling a lot more comfortable.

Definitely felt a bit more sprightly on last nights ride. 600m/14km, all very much winch and plummet. Legs still tired, but not as tired as if I'd been running the previous three days. Another half a kilo shifted as well these last two weeks.

Half way ish in- thoughts are: 1) it's not difficult to fit 30 mins a day in (esp if you work for yourself), 2) running has come on a lot both in terms of pace (still pretty slow) and ability to maintain low-ish HR / improve recovery time. The treadmill really helps with this, keeps you disciplined, 3) Yoga has made a big difference to general well being. I still don't really enjoy it but three times a week for 30 mins has reduced back pain and given me lots more flexibility. 4) None of this has really made me feel any stronger on the MTB!

Next  week programme ends with a projected 55min 10km (on treadmill with 1% incline so it's not a proper run). After that going to move to taster sessions at the Gym mostly for yoga/circuits/maybe spin bikes. I know - age wise - I should be lifting heavier weights but I really get zero pleasure out of that so it's not going to happen.

Anyway, 8km run later proceeded by some appropriately targeted Yoga. Keep on, keeping on all 🙂

Decided to go out on my 'premium' Road bike today; thought it would probably be one of this year's last dry days. Tried to stay in zone 2 for the 80+ km with plenty of climbing... Easier said than done! Enjoyed it but knackered now.

7k run tonight. Suffered with stitch and now have a pain behind my right shoulder. I need to stretch more before running and also get some electrolyte powder. But mainly lose some weight....

No idea what's going on with the weather, but I had to take advantage of it so a 45km gravel loop was done.

At first glance, that could actually be snow on the mountains...

It was weird. Warm air, blue sky and the sun hovering just beginning to dip below the tops. It felt like a lovely summer evening, but it was only 14:30 and the temperatures dropped sharlpy in the shade.

Day #53 - early doors pool swim 2.42 km in 48 minutes - much slower than the swim 2 days ago, knackered when I started today, totally bloody knackered when I’d finished. Done, done, done.

great pics @scotroutes

Yeah the weather is weird. Went for a hour's brisk stroll at lunch and was sweating in a t-shirt. Genuinely lost my sense of seasons and had to think what month we're in at one point.

Day 54: Heatwave here unfortunately. I'm in the city for a conference so no bike. Tried to run without killing myself so tried a 10km zone 2 run along the river. Worked ok but weird going so slowly.

Day 52: My first fail. Worked from dawn until about 1 am on a deadline. Not happy!

Day 53: My second fail. More of the same, plus exhausted. I hate that work gets in the way of life.

I’m determined to get back on it today.

Day #54 - how’d we get to here so quickly ? Well over half way.

anyway lunchtime pool swim today, much better than at 06:30 🙂

2.62 km in 50 minutes, nice and according to garmin quite a few new personal bests. It would have been quicker, but cramp in my left foot for the last 10 lengths was excruciating but I wasn’t going to stop. Not doing anything else today.

I think you can give yourself a pass then @bonni - ridiculous hours. Again glad I can pretty much pick mine nowadays. The idea of doing a full days work is bad enough, never mind 18+ hours!

Been a bit slack this week with Yoga twice being all I've done in a day, but back on it with the dog hike, more yoga, another walk with the mutts and an 8km run with about half at 'race pace' I'm aiming for next week. Felt okay at 4k, have a feeling I might not make that pace for 10k tho.

Run with the wife and dog this evening, got back home at 4.5k so I left them and went round the block to make it 5. I can't not do 5k when it's that close.
