Ah Scotroutes very nice. I love Glen Feshie

Slow start for me today as I swear everything, including my head, hurt. Made myself brunch, took some paracetamol and splashed my way round Gisburn red on the full sus. So infrequently ride trail centres these days I made a bit of a hash of the roots and rock gardens, but pleased I could still ride downhill ok. And my brunch meant I got there a bit later than planned and the trails were surprisingly quiet.

Not sure why people who can run Marathons need a half an hour exercise challenge.Surely, rather than a challenge this is merely a warm up?

It's certainly true that I very rarely would only do a 30min run, minimum for me is usually an hour or so. So dunno about anyone else, but for me the challenge is the streak - not having days off.

Anyway this weekend was the usual mix: a swim on Friday, up a mountain on Saturday, and a very cold and windy ride yesterday.

Day 20. Garage gym done before 8.30 and thought well while I’m here I might as well wash my mtb as well. Haha. Good start to a Monday!

Better get on with some work!

That’s me.
It’s keeping the streak in the winter days when I don’t want too.
It’s rare I’ll do less than an hour per day but as it gets to the colder months it’s easy to miss a day or 2.

Yeah, Saturday the challenge meant I did 30 mins dumbbells class on YouTube instead of nowt.
Sunday I was going to have a run but knee not happy; luckily I'd hared round the local area in the rain (on MTB - slow as all get out but disc brakes!) looking for clubmates doing the virtual LM at lunchtime which deffo counted as exercise.

I've been attempting to build upper body strength for probably 5 years now but haven't done it regularly enough, as well as a handful of attempts at running in that time too. Lockdown really helped get me moving again (partly due to lack of bicycle commuting), but this challenge is really helping me actually do this stuff regularly.

Today upper bodyweight exercise. Made the exercises a little easier today due to onset of a cold. Roughly 1hr.

Saturday was just 20 mins on the rowing machine and some core and glute exercises for 10 or 15 mins.

Nice ride yesterday then bumped into a mate on a ride so finished our rides together and had a cheeky couple of pints outside the local as it was sunny!

And I'm well pleased as I've just managed a 5k run without any calf or shin pain for the first time in ages.

It's the other 100 runs that get you to the start line.
And it's exactly the sort of support and encouragement that you get from some on this thread that help get you out each day for them.

20 miles in the rain soaked Pentlands today. Soaked, caked in mud, loved it.

Must start the running soon.

A tip I learned from the Running thread on here is to kneel down with tops of your feet facing the floor and sit back on your heels. From a constant shin splints sufferer this has helped me no end.

Well, at least it stopped raining (for a while). Bike today was my old Ti frame now SingleSpeed.

It was nice just to be able to hose it down when I got back and then chuck it in the garage.

Only 20-odd km but I spent a lot of time looking at a huge flock of chaffinches then investigating potential bivvy spots down near the (very swollen) Spey.

As has already been said, the challenge isn't to do 3.5 hours exercise every week, it's about doing something worthwhile every day for 100 days regardless. For me, that really means getting outside. I'm not a fan of indoors stuff.

Sometimes monkey. Local gym. You book into a sesh, limited numbers, and have to use a particular changing cubicle...one-way systems...pool divvied up into 3 big lanes, everyone swims clockwise.
Main issue for me is the variation in speed in those in the slow lane with me 🙂
(FX: thinks longingly of sea swimming in warmer weather)

I was taking swimming lessons before lockdown, had just moved from baby pool to the big pool and was starting to get some coordination with breathing on the front crawl. Hadn't got to doing a full length, turned around before the deep end. Haven't been since CV19 disappointing but just in no hurry to get in a pool with other people.

Walk in the rain today for me....had a job interview earlier, which seems to have left me deflated. Was planning on a 2 hour loop in the Peaks but just cba. It's not that they interview was bad....just think that my 'Covid blues' have kicked in again. At least this challenge motivated me to get out for at least 30 mins.

Similar situation here. I started with lessons about this time last year, was just starting to "get it", then lockdown. I've been out in the lochs a few times recently, picking up where I left off. It's beginning to get a bit cold for a good session now though, even with all the right kit. Still, I've arranged a swim tomorrow morning, so let's see!

Wattbike today and a walk yesterday. Weekend was the motorcycle trip which I thought was pushing the remit a bit. Happy to say I was knackered by the time I got back on Sunday, definitely took something out of me.

Loch Vaa was lovely this morning. Only the top layer of boulders sticking out above the crannog. Given no immediate change in water temperatures I reckon there's a couple more open water sessions still possible this Autumn.

Have to say this Challenge worked yesterday - had a bit of a nightmare day at work which meant I had to miss my 7:30 evening run session, and were it not for the challenge I'd probably not have bothered with the swim at 9... glad I did, and as usual felt better for it 🙂

monkeycmonkeydo - going back to your question about people who can do marathons doing this, I race bikes and still take part in this challenge. Even if you're fit, exercising every single day is rare, especially in autumn and early winter when usually you just want to switch off, and I find it great for building a baseline of fitness to fire me into the next year. Chris started it to avoid getting into a lull in his training over winter and he did mad triathlons (a marathon over the Scottish Highlands, then a 140 mile odd bike ride in the same terrain and a swim in a loch!). On the other hand, one of my pals does it and he has no goals, he just does it to keep himself active as it gets dark in Scandinavia where he lives.

I realised I've not put up many of my own efforts lately so here we go-

day 13 - a short post-holiday road spin in the evening sun

Day 14 - a gravel spin up the Pentlands - peeped a hare and a grouse

Day 15 - moorland bashing and some of the local DH tracks

Day 16 - a very serious road ride with my wife.

Day 17 - a fast 37 mile gravel ride. Got my first Strava KOM in ages!

Day 18 - this was on Saturday and it was really grim. As short a ride as I could get away with, 8.5 miles on the towpath.

Day 19 - a big day out at Glentress (27 miles, 5000ft of climbing, 1.5 pizzas) and I finally rode a scary drop thing that gave me the willies last time I was there.

[img] [/img]

Day 20 - almost 40 miles on the gravel bike with a mate. Loads of climbing but some very fast descents as a reward!

Day 21 - 15 mile ish recovery pace ride to quieten down the tingling in my poor legs-

[img] [/img]

Great photos Munro - still trying to pick up motivation to go out today - I've spent all day in the loft/office listening to rain land less than a foot above my head - got drenched last night - was meant to be riding Whinlatter this afternoon but my meeting got cancelled so heading back on the roads of south manchester - I want daylight today though so I've got to go soon....

Last night's highlight was being sized up by a barn owl.  Amazing creature.

Just want to say I'm really glad I'm in on this - had just over half an hour between finishing work and needing to cook tea tonight, my only chance to do any exercise today, and if I hadn't been doing this challenge I'd have sacked it off, but I've got this from far and don't want to quit now, so I set the timer on my phone and did some circuits.

This.

Finally went for a run today. 2.5 miles and it was purgatory. I can see Allermuir and Caerketton hill from my house and would like to be able run over them and back - by the end of this challenge might be too much, end of February / winter maybe.

Can't do photo links but my current exercise is mostly walking 🚶 the dog 🐶 since I retired. Biking during the summer lockdown months was mostly limited to shopping expeditions. My mtb riding is a Tuesday night @Ae

Vaguely remember that there is a way to post images via an app of some sort?? 💓

Frustrated. I've not missed a day since this started.

My Garmin won't upload yesterdays run to Strava. It's on my device (245) just won't upload.

Just wondered if anyone else had any issues with Garmin?

2.75 mile walk yesterday for 3/4 hour was going to be it but then with a bit of time to spare decided to go out on the trials bike. Today another window and wanting another quick trials ride. Trying short half-hour rides on the trials bike to avoid overstraining shoulders. I'm not very good. Here I'm trying to stay on rear wheel and hop onto the near low ledge, hop into the middle, and then hop out and onto the far low ledge. Made a few attempts but lost strength by that point so called it a day after 35 minutes. A decent rider would just gap the whole thing easily. Oh well!

Past few days have been a bit of a mix of Kettlebells and bodyweight exercises, combined with some Zwift.
I stripped my trainer down and replaced the bearings. This has helped the knocking, but not solved it. Inconsistent though, some rides have had only a slight occasional knocking, other times it's been ridiculous right from the start. Next in the list is to replace the key and see if that helps.

Owf. Went for a ride. Felt shit. Wasn't warm enough to get going and couldn't get going enough to get warm. I've been suffering from some, err, digestion problems so my lack of energy could be a result of that or another symptom of something causing both.

Seriously debating skipping tomorrow.

Another half hour trials session. 3rd day in a row. Lower legs and shoulders feeling it so decided to just take it a little bit easier, turn down the brute-force a notch. Bit of a lesson there, felt a bit calmer, it might not have to be a fight against my own body.

Seriously debating skipping tomorrow.

I skipped Wednesday, got a pretty full on cold and really didn't have the energy when the OH finally got home at 20:15 after a nightmare shift. A hot chocolate on the sofa was a much better idea and I feel much better for it.

Dog walk with the kids last night.

Academic jobs don’t really have an end point! I generally try and only work 8 hours a day, but things are backing up at the moment.

Similarly beautiful 7 am sunrise here (though an hour walk). By 8 am though we were very wet on the way home.

Nice pootle along the tees today(apart from the wind). Also, tried a bit of low level dirt jump on my hardtail.Looking forward to my full susser being repaired.Jumping about seems alot harder work than just bowling along.I can imagine the trials guy above must get a good sweat on after 30 minutes.

I took a gentle spin on Zwift this lunchtime. I did AdZ last night, started out as a workout but was not feeling it in the legs. Thought I'd keep going up the climb as I was already 7 turns in, but I wasn't very strong. Feeling it in the legs a little right now, so the gentle spin today was just the ticket!

Went for a run today and ended up running 10 miles! That’s the furthest I’ve ever run by far! This exercise malarkey’s definitely got its plus sides. A couple of HIIT sessions, a ride and another run earlier in the week.

Ate too much dinner which isn't exactly an infrequent occurrence. After pudding (mince pie + ice cream) decided I needed another one but the OH actually got strict with me and said no. I couldn't believe it! So I had a hot cross bun instead 😀

Turned out not to be such a good idea when it came to exercising however. Felt a bit queesy after 3 x 2 walks up the wall into a handstand. Pull ups didn't make me feel any better either, dips were ok. Then bodyweight rows + push ups. Wall slides on the floor and a few other stretches. Probably about an hour.

@jodafett well done on the runs!

Despite feeling crap yesterday, I headed up on the Singlespeed to Loch Morlich to try to get a decent photo of the new snow on the mountains. Got caught in another cold shower but felt a bit better so spun round for a couple of hours.

As an aside, I'm loving the SingleSpeed setup as I can just quickly hose the bike down when I get home and it's good to go.

Went for a run today and ended up running 10 miles! That’s the furthest I’ve ever run by far! This exercise malarkey’s definitely got its plus sides.

Great - but remember not to push things too far/too fast and knacker something. There's still 76 days to go!

Thought about doing the same Joe Wicks video this evening but last minute decided to try someone else.

Brutal, but I kind of had a feeling that a guy calling himself Bully Juice probably would make it tough. I'm a puddle on the floor and he's just chill AF.

Meh! The CBA continued with leaking tubeless on my cx, impossibly tight tyres and nearly leaving the house without any water. At which point, thanks to the good weather, the roads and trails were heaving! And my legs felt naff. Did just over an hour and that’s enough. At least the challenge forced me out. Now to do that gardening...

I’m going to take it a bit easier this week as my sleep pattern (which had improved at the start of this) was terrible last week. Wide awake at 3am and not getting back to sleep! 2 hour walk with the kids today and Pilates or walks for the rest of the week I think!
