Day 7 and another stunner. To make this fit round life I’m generally getting out first thing (something I’ve got really bad at since WFH) and it’s totally been worth it. I can say thank you Munro for the inspiration for the last 7 days of sunshine alone. Today was a stunner - early morning light, proper cloud inversion and a deer jumping across the track just in front of me. Had to cut it short (did 40 mins) as saw a text on my Garmin saying DPD were on the way with my new drive chain!

That's stunning ahsat. I've also got out the habit of early starts/commutes with WFH. Looks like my new job will be 9.00 starts for the first few months, so I can see a "faux commute" becoming an idea.

Today I need to fit a ride in while the trails are still dry to check new tubeless tyre setup, in between an annoyingly late work dial in, cooking tea for everyone and then a Zoom meeting this evening.

Autumn starts tomorrow - will be indoor bodyweight circuits looking at the forecast!

+1

I've got into the habit of early morning walks, around 30min although I'm not (currently) counting them as exercise. It's lovely to be out first thing, with all the clear air and silence. And there was definitely a chill in the air this morning, you can tell autumn starts today.

I need to stop giving myself stupid little injuries.

I whacked my knee off my stem on Sunday, when the my front wheel dug in on a narrow rutted climb.

Thankfully I could still bend it far enough for an easy turbo session, it hurts when I walk downstairs though!

Gym today for an hour. I'd been back for the first time since lockdown on Thursday, was still feeling the effects on Sunday! Hopefully won't be too stiff after today's exertions.

Standard, slow Tuesday 7 run for me. Tuesdays are always unpleasant as they’re generally off the back of 2 long runs over the weekend and a fast club run Monday.
Not a great deal of fun had but it was a nice route and the weather is lush.

Got 11 miles in on the gravel bike tonight. Actually managed 7 consecutive days. Legs a bit heavy from last night.

Weather forecast suggests something indoors tomorrow...

Quick spin along the canal and old railway line on the gravel bike today. Not used it since I stopped commuting to work at the start of lockdown. Forgot how much quicker it was than the MTB.

First night ride on the MTB in two years tonight to get day 7 in the bag!

Motivation is currently pretty high but now my other half has decided to join in, albeit a week later, aiming to do 100 days unti New Years Day so we can keep each other in check.

My missus joined in late too. I'll likely keep going until she completes on Hogmanay.

The hardest thing for me is fitting it in. Time not working is typically spent sorting out the kids (7, 5, 1) and then work on top of work. But I'm doing it.

Today's ride was curtailed by me having a very pleasant chat with a walker and her aspiring MTBer son, before I had to come back for tea 7 minutes short of time, so I've just had a brisk walk over the hill up the back as the mist gathered. Lots of bats and some curious cows but a joy to be out.

Staying away from running until my knee's 100%

Day 7 and the first time I've taken a break to get out (unless smashing concrete on Saturday counts).

Motivated by my son who couldn't fit his ridiculous amount of football kit and school stuff back in his bag after school so went belting off to meet him with a second rucksack and found him and his mates slow pedalling home bag duly packed.🙄 Little sod then gave me a helmet lecture - that's gratitude for you. Think I need to set tj on him 😬

Yoga last night as my back was playing up.

Kids in school I WFH on Tuesday, do did a 2hr lunch ride with the wife, which is brilliant as since lockdown began we've had no time to ourselves

Commutes today were successfully gentle, still off road but HR for the most part well below 120 other than when trying to avoid holding up traffic got the better of me while still in town on way in. Some scapular pull ups and push ups (ie only using motion in shoulders while maintaining straight arms) in the park before I got to work to make shoulders happy. Some free standing handstand practice for a change during lunch break, got a couple of seconds properly balanced which was pleased with as I mostly do it against a wall. Evening was the main exercise. After ten minutes warm up got gymnastic rings out for support holds (not yet RTO) upright & upside down (I like being upside down). Then paired pull ups & dips, 3 sets, 5 each. Tried for 7 pull ups last week and form was really bad and struggled so tried for 5 slow eccentric pull ups. Struggling with grip, triceps felt solid afterwards. With stretches after took 40 minutes.

I’m going to restart a week behind. First I had a virus, now I’ve got vertigo. Finding something you can do with vertigo is challenging! In the last 2 days I’ve nearly fallen in the canal walking the dog and fell off my bike when I stopped at a gate riding home the first day it came on!

Day 8 done.....what a difference a day makes! Sunburn yesterday, today I'd got my Paramo on! Just the standard loop up the Bosley Cloud with the pooch. Might try some core stuff for the next few days as my back is a bit sore. Really want to swift/intervals on turbo but alas, Covid has seen me lose about 60% of my income so it's unlikely to happen as I don't even own a functioning bike currently ☹️

I'm in Cheshire Rich.....I think that I'd feel a bit weird about it tbh....never even had to ask my parents for money once. To be clear I'm not destitute, just seeing a continuing decline in my work ....which means no bike fund (when did bikes get so mentally expensive?!?!)

Another walk today. Still a wee bit of doms from yesterday's gym. If I remember last year I went at it a bit fervently and started picking up niggles quite quick. So whilst walking feels like cheating a bit I reckon it'll be needed to see me last the course.

Argh! Work, life stuff, endless rain and tiredness and still haven’t done mine today. Late night Pilates it’s going to have to be...

This is the first day I haven’t been motivated and I knew this was going to come at some point. Makes me wonder how long I’ll last when the weather turns!

I'd given myself two options tonight: run in the dark, wind, possible rain, or trials bike (and ride it like an amateur) in the dark, wind, possible rain. So obviously I went for Joe Wicks!

I disagree with Strava that it was easier than my usual effort. Was properly sweating out afterwards. Lunges and curtsy lunges hilighed lack of stability in legs. Mountain climbers were tough. Was all uncoordinated over the place with the "boxer" section. Kinda enjoyable though probably give it another go.

The commutes-don't-count rule is causing me to deliberately make them not count on my body so I have enough energy for other exercise, think it's working out so far (ok only 3 days of commutes but whatever).

Day 8. Got out way later than expected but my first proper night ride this season. Annoying base of skull headache ruined it a bit really but I think that's from not being hydrated in the day. I think I'll go out at lunch tomorrow instead.

I've had to sack of today's because of vertigo too. Been suffering with some sort of ear/vertigo thing for a few days. Felt great this morning, planned to do a lunchtime ride, then it kicked back in.

Having been off regular exercise for a long long time I’m loving the new daily 30min exercise routine. It’s a fantastic way back to fitness without stress of finding time for a big ride.

I’m sticking to just the 30mins for now as it’s easier to fit in early doors before school run and work. Perhaps a cheaky lunch time ride in the forest too.

Legs are feeling yesterdays kettlebell workout...tired body 😂

Day 8 was my usual Wednesday club session: a tougher run than expected with hill repeats and a 12min tempo effort, and then a decent swim with lots of 100m intervals. I did have a vague plan to go for a run this morning, but rain stopped play 🙂

I'll head out on the bike later this evening.

Had a truncated bike ride last night - two base layers and a gilet was definitely underdressed for whatever the temperature had dropped to once the sun went down. I managed about an hour then had to run up the white flag and retreat back to the warmth of the house for some pasta and a hug from the wife!

Day 9 and  ow ow ow the headache is back. Managed all of a few hundred metres up the hill before a pounding headache forced me to stop. Base of skull, properly uncomfortable.

Ibuprofen before I headed out didn't stop it. Watered properly today too.

I'll walk while the eldest is at Beavers later then it'll be some other form of exercise for a few days then I think. I'm not even doing big stuff.

Ow

Well as I am a space cadet who doesn't read emails thoroughly I turned up to running club 10 mins late on Tues ! Nobody left! but this kept me honest and I went for a plod on my own. Weights class on Weds. Having physio in (literally) a minute so who knows what today's 30" will be once I've been "done".
Also this made sure I got out Monday albeit for 45 mins potter round on the hardtail.

Our local pool has just re-opened but with very limited numbers so you have to book in, I'm going to start doing this as it'll help me get out the door too I reckon.
Dog walk tonight though as after my first 5k last night for a while the quads are feeling a little tender.

TBH, this Challenge happily coincided with my own goal of trying to regain something close to the level of fitness I had last year after suffering from Covid and post-Covid impact. In more normal times, I'd be doing a decent amount of exercise maybe 5 days per week anyway. Adding on a couple of days of 30 mins or so doesn't seem like a major struggle - though I need to wait to see if I can sustain it given my starting point 🙂

Last year I went at it hammer and tongs reckoning I'd end up uberfit at chrimbo. What actually happened was I learned that my recovery isn't what it used to be, niggles and fatigue started creeping in. A blood pressure issue really threw the spanner in the works but I was flagging beforehand.

Anyway, this time I'm taking it a good bit easier. If I manage to finish it'll be hopefully a bit fitter than I am and hopefully a lot fitter than I would have been had I done a normal autumn/winter effort. I think the point I'm trying to make is fit in the easy days, don't make it a chore or something you really don't want to do. Try and enjoy it. I particularly enjoy a walk with an old album on the headphones, and I'll do a couple of these a week.

If you are that way inclined another motivator is write 1-100 down on a piece of paper and score out the days. Stick it on the fridge or something.

Just done a little night ride, and came back into the village as one of the boys in blue was giving two of the local yoofs some friendly advice about having lights on your bike after dark.

As I rode past with my Exposure Race and Joystick pumping out 1000 lumens on their lowest setting I heard the copper say "well maybe not that much light...." 🤣🤣

Mix it up - if all you're doing is cycling you'll find it much harder than if it's cycling one day, a bit of yoga the next, then some running etc. And a decent 30min walk (keeping the pace up, not just a gentle stroll!) also counts.

And at the end of the day remember for most of us (OP aside) this is just a challenge we're doing for fun, if you miss a day or you decide to stop as it's all becoming a chore, no problem 🙂

10 days done, 90 to go! For me it’s a mix of bikes, hikes, yoga and swimming. Swimming is the new one and I’ve been 4 times in the last 2 weeks, so tired after only 40 lengths / 30 mins that I need a little snooze when I get back! In our pool no overtaking is allowed with COVID so what does everyone do when the person in front is too slow ( I’m not fast enough for the fast lane )

Went for a 5k run yesterday evening as I had to get a couple of packs of screws from Screwfix. Ran past a group of runners in the park and got some odd looks due to my jingle jangle soundtrack. I need to fit a stair rail after work so may need to sneak in a 30 minute run or walk somewhere today. Or a quick ride around the local woods which does appeal more.

Have swimming booked into the pool at Hathersage with the kids tomorrow so I'll be claiming that as my 30 minutes exercise 🙂
