I need to up my photography on rides, flat Cheshire spin yesterday so swung past Jodrell Bank before heading up the Wizard.

Pleasant ride after Saturdays soaking.

Day 69 has taken me on a shorter local loop and I was surprisingly full of beans, wish I'd gone out longer now...

Already posted in another thread.

13 minutes in Loch Morlich earlier.

I'll top that up with a little late-night yoga as I'm swimming again tomorrow and will likely fit a run in too.

Hop about on the trials bike yesterday afternoon as the light faded, another hop about this evening under street lights, usual spots. Yesterday felt a bit frustrating, today a few positive charges dotted about here and there.

Day 70 - and its my birthday (62 if you must ask).

A morning swim in Loch Morlich (7C again) with muffins in the car park to follow.

Then a wet 6.5km run with Mrs Scotroutes to help with her 50 mile thing.

Pizza tonight!

Excellent. Happy birthday Scotroutes 🙂

Back in isolation again here as p20 has got a temperature. Once again awaiting COVID test result (given his work, we aren’t optimistic). I’m thinking that as I feel ok some light garage gym is probably on. Keep HR and cardio load down.

Felicidades @scotroutes from deepest darkest Spain 🙂

Another run today - did some short but intense intervals. Only 40min but we've got a bit of a panic going on at work so didn't have any more time. I'll go for another walk in a minute.

Anyone interested in a grease the grove - working from home - 100/200/300 club challenge tomorrow?

We decide on the exercise of the day. We have between 830 and 530 to do the total number. Post up in WhatsApp etc as we go along.

Choice of...
100 pull/chin ups
200 press-ups
3 min worth of handstands
300 parallel bar(kitchen stool) leg lifs
Or something else?

200 press-ups in 8 hours.

That's 12 per half hour. 6 per 15 min. It will barely raise the heart rate.

I dunno, taking 8hours to do 200 press ups will work that core 🙂

When in the office I'd aim for 500 a day but I can't get motivated when working at home.

Earl if you post it on here I might join in tomorrow and see how it goes...

Happy birthday Scotroutes!

Definitely didn't think you were in your 60s Scotroutes. Happy birthday!

Upperbodyweight here this evening. About an 1 hours worth. Some laundry sorting during the rests between sets. I guess if I find the first set of 5 pull ups harder than the 2nd or 3rd I've probably not warmed up those muscle groups enough. Pull ups 25 total. Dips 21 total. Bodyweight rows 40 total. Clappy push ups 12 total, regular push ups 23 total.

@earl, I'm not feeling committed, but it is tempting. Would go for push ups, 12 every half hour you say...

Cool. Obviously you can up the numbers or double triple up if you want. 🙂

The fun part is calling it at the beginning of the day then seeing it play out.

Yep - 12 every half hour is easy. Worth mixing it up too - norms, narrows, Hindu, clap, chest slap, deficit, archer.... Lots of fun!

Grease the groove - for those who haven't heard of it - aim is not to go till failure.

Right - 830 start. I'll post up here my days goal then.

Yesterday was my first missed day. A sleepless night, 12hr shift and a late dinner saw me heading to bed rather than finding something to do for 30mins. Thought I'd feel guilty but it's not too bad. Another 12hr today so I'll definitely need to do a bit tonight.

Well this time, this is me checking of out the challenge for the foreseeable. P20 has COVID and imagine I’m heading that way too. Going to take it easy - but will keep checking in here to see how you are all doing. Good luck with the press ups!

No sorry. I'm at work this week and while the office where I work is a very informal environment I'd feel a bit awkward doing 12 push ups every half hour! Will definitely give it a go on one of my weeks off. I've never tried doing a large number spread throughout the day so curious to know how well I might do. Went for a half hour brisk lunch time walk today, going to do 30min of yoga once kids in bed. Elbows quietly murmuring to me throughout the day after yesterday evening's exercise.

TBH - its easy. Number sound high but its so spread out. I can only do around 30 press ups max so today I did 10per set for 20 sets. All done by 12:30 without pushing it. I just made a rule every time I got out of my chair, for coffee/wee/parcel delivery. And taking my eyes away from the screen every 30min is a good thing. Finished each set with a downward dog too.

Its the opposite of 'Muscle and Fitness' style intensity training but I think it still has its benefits. And there is nothing stopping you doing the last 50 with high intensity if you wanted.

Tomorrows pull ups I'll need to warm up to (showing the age of my cranky elbows) so it will look something like 1,1,1,2,2,4,8,8,8,7,7,6,5,5,5,,4,4,4,4,4,3,3,3,3,3,3,2,2,2,2,2,2... until I ring the bell.

Fun facts: Guiness World Records documented the first record for push-ups way back in 1965 when Charles Linster completed 6,006 push-ups non-stop. This was then broken by Japanese Minoru Yoshida in 1980 with 10,507 push-ups. Also 46000 in 24 hours.

Out for a couple of hours on the single speed Onion. Visited a collapsed chambered Cairn. Stashed a beer for our beerienteering group. Checked out some forest harvesting. Slipped and slid over some rooty trails. Discovered another riverside track I'd somehow missed.

Earl, am down for the pulling but haven't managed more than a couple in a day since my teens. Can you recommend a website?

Earl, I started a couple of years ago on holiday when my lad challenged me to do 20 press ups and it bloody hurt.  When I was a teenager I could do 50 no worries, and I kinda of just thought I still could.  Anyway I resolved to get back to 50, and just started plugging away.  First just doing 50 a day, then slowly bumping it up.

Lockdown has plateaued my attempts to do repeated sets at 100.  I can do 100 but struggle to repeat it.

Just an odd thing that got stuck in my head, also its helped with smashing through rock gardens so have seen bike fitness improvements.

I'm going to pick it up.again in the new year, at the moment I'm enjoying riding everyday for this challenge so not feeling motivated to crash out press ups.

@thestabiliser
For body weight stuff - I like what these guys have to say.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eGo4IYlbE5g

Their vids are less of a program but more delivery of useful knowledge around the whole topic of pull/chin ups.

My 2 cents - Injury prevention comes first by a long way - then look at numbers.

A full unassisted pull up is really hard on the body compared to a pressup or a squat or lunge. And I'm talking about the joint/ligament/tendon stuff.

Prep movements - Start with tonnes of dead and active hangs, body weight rows, negatives. Give your body time to adapt. These are obviously good for warmup too.

Don't drop down from the top (i.e. violent movement from high to low)- that's mega shoulder injury territory. If you can't lower yourself down with control then drop your numbers and do the regressions above.

Get a bar at home - every time you walk past it - do a few preps or a pull or two. Much like these 100 challenges - little and often - not max sets - save those for when you really wanna bust it out i.e. once a week.

Hand positions work different muscles - Palms away/ facing/ alternate. Do them all.

If you're 30y or younger - ignore all the above and just pull like ****!

Have fun!

On a similar but less fanatical theme, I did 80 minutes exercise at my local park gym. This included,15 minutes of pull ups, push downs and rowing.I agree with Earl's point about sudden release from dips etc and the probability of shoulder damage.I have caused some damage that way myself.
On a brighter note, last night I bopped for 80 minutes to "Substance"by New Order. It was an enjoyable change and I still got a good sweat on!Hope your all well and ahsat is recovering.Neil

Stunning running conditions last night, clear sky, no wind and ice cold.
Started out planning a gentle 8 mile run and then bumped into a club mate a mile in so the easy 8 turned into one of the fastest 10 milers I've ever run. What's even better is that it felt effortless.
Absolutely buzzing after that one.

Nice one @lunge.

Keep going all. The updates are keeping me sane.

I sat on the turbo and spun my legs for 5 mins yesterday in the granny ring - literally for nothing more than to keep the blood moving (I have a DVT risk) and my arthritic knee from locking up (don’t worry; no cardio load at all). Not sure it counts but with you in spirit.

Finished work at lunchtime and decided to go out this afternoon on the road bike as yesterday I went single speeding round the woods. I left the village in bright sunshine but after about twenty minutes a blanket of thick fog descended making visibility quite a problem. Fortunately I have decent front and rear lights so wasn’t too worried but about twenty minutes after that I couldn’t see the other side of the road!! Cut the ride short and took the most direct route home, felt very relieved when I got there. Take care out there folks.

A lot bloody fitter tho so there is an up side!

A bit dreich here today but I don't mind running when it's like that. Really not looking forward to the prolonged spells of icy roads and pavements as that makes cycling AND running treacherous.

Been wondering this for a while: what is a decent translation of "dreich" to English? I'm guessing "grim" would probably cover it, but is there a better word?

Yesterday, I wanted to do some sort of 30minute HIIT like the Joe Wicks and Bully Juice follow along videos I did earlier in the challenge, but wanted to focus on legs and jumping. Tried looking on youtube for follow along jump higher videos but longest was 10 minutes, so in the end I just made it up uses bits and pieces of what I could remember for about 30 minutes. Really sweaty. Enjoyed but next time I might just do one of the follow along videos instead for a bit more structure.

This evening was intending yoga but wasn't feeling the love for it so started flapping my arms around, then picked up a pair of 3kg barbells and flapped my arms around some more, then picked up the 8kg kettle bell and more arm stuff commenced, and a few squats for good measure. Worked up quite the sweat once the kettle bell came out. I rarely use the barbells or kettle bell, so was good to finally 'get' them in some way. 45 minutes give or take 5.

I've not missed a day yet and still enjoying the "challenge" aspect of it but motivation is getting increasingly lower and lower and starting to view it as more of a chore than anything else. Although I am glad I'm sticking to it, working from home means I'd barely leave the house most days otherwise!
About to drag myself for a local night ride. Scottish lockdown rules means I'm not allowed to leave my area which I actually really enjoyed in the first lockdown, exploring a lot of new paths etc. Not quite the same sticking to local paths in the mud, cold and dark though!
Trying to look on the positives, looking forward to getting back to Inners and Dunkeld and being much fitter than I would've otherwise been

Try mixing it up a bit? Are you always doing the same sort of thing?

I managed to squeeze in a quick hour on the road bike this morning - despite it being a Saturday I had to work, although hopefully we've finally delivered the fix for the problem that blew up last weekend... Here's hoping next week will be a little bit easier!

Day 75. 3/4 distance. Let's keep it going folks.

I mentioned in my previous post that I was feeling a bit stronger again. Backed that up today with a 10km run down from Badaguish to home and managed to record my PB 5k and 10km. It's undoubtedly cheating given the elevation drop but I'll still take it!

No photos. Too much of a rush 😅

Got a decent run in yesterday but today's MTB was a bit of catastrophe Went for a walk withe family in a local forest (10 miles or so from home) with the idea that I'd ride back. wife and kids set off, pull out of carpark. Where's me phone and wallet? In the car. Nevermind. Did a couple of the trails and on the last corner hit a rock and punctured. Ok, had half an anchiove, got it fitted stood back and basked in my greatness then pumped it up. Hssssss. Split right on the bead. No tube, no phone, could be a long walk. Set off walking to see if I could get it to seal. No go. find a tube patch in my pack, shoved that in with loads of glue and it held. Up to about 10psi just and so rideable. So rode back at about 5 mph past all the good stuff I wanted to ride and got a bollocking for being late home. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yesterday upper bodyweight strength workout: 4 x 6 chin ups, 3 x 7 dips. The easier pull/push variants with feet elevated 18": 4 x 8 bodyweight rows, 3 x 8 push ups - could have done many more except didn't want to risk more elbow issues. The usual hour inc. warm up/cool down.

Trials ride today, 45 minutes, for once didn't get frustrated or exhausted, no negativity at all, just enjoyed it. Technique slowly improving. At least a 5yo told me he liked my moves... But I thought he said boots. Then told him that and was wearing trainers. He said he had dinosaur boots and whizzed off with a big roar on his scooter.

Going to be up here working for the next few months so will try get some retribution!
Couple walks over the weekend as my knee is not healing as quick as I want it to.
Lost count of what day we’re on! Think I might have started early anyway!

45 minute run with Mrs Scotroutes, completing her 50 Miles in November challenge.

Then a welcome return to the swimming pool for another 45 minutes. All very weird being indoors swimming again, first time since March 19th. I'd forgotten how much buoyancy the wetsuit adds and also how much warmer the water would be. Might cheat with the buoyancy trunks next week 😉

Been enjoying reading all your posts. Well done all. Thankfully it looks like I’ve had COVID mild, and I’m on the mend having only really had 4-5 days of feeling unwell. Still got 5 days of isolation ahead of me (isolating for 14 days), so no activities just yet (and when I do, it will only be short walks), but am hopefully I might join you all for the end, if things allow (don’t worry - will take it very careful).

Night hop about on the street trials bike last night, really windy, difficult to find spots sheltered from wind with street lighting and also decent for hopping about on. So I practised some wheelies, wheel swaps, and manuals, all pretty badly as I don't often do those things.

WFH lunch time hop about on the street trials bike, only 30 minutes. Still really windy, sea getting a bit rough, but I wasn't the only person out there exercising so that spurred me on.

Another fail yesterday, that's three days now and all after an early shift. Sometimes coming home cream crackered and the thought of grinding through half and hour seems daunting. Back on it today and going to try and not slip again till the challenge is finished.

On days like that I do a beginners Yoga video on YouTube.

I do find the half hour yoga videos always go quite quickly. Whereas some of the HIIT I'm thinking "please let this end."

Interesting reading about hypnic jerks from WCA's thread - is a brief and sudden involuntary contraction of the muscles of the body which occurs when a person is beginning to fall asleep.

a wide range of potential causes... stimulants like caffeine... and strenuous activities in the evening.

Looks like I'll be having them for a while longer then.

I'm not going to lie - I felt like pish when I woke up today. I'd arranged to go MTBing with a mate but my legs just felt leaden. I struggled round the 35km (750m of climbing) like a good 'un and had a pretty good day out as a result.

I have some Loch swimming lined up in the morning and will likely do a wee yoga session later in the day. Hoping that gives my legs a wee break before the weekend comes in full pelt.

Must confess to starting to struggle, left hamstring and right knee both want some time off! But we’re in the final straight so gotta keep going ...

I’ve found myself feeling very envious of his rides from the door. Terrain that I can only dream of here in Norfolk!
