Was going to meet a mate for a run today, but he had toothache and I was tired. So went for a walk to explore the Swanston side of Allermuir. New to me round there, got lost a few weeks back so had to retrace and get it right.

From a quick search to see the difference between pilates and yoga I guess pilates has more movement.

Very roughly Pilates focuses on core strength. Yoga focuses on flexibility. There is some overlap. I am hypermobile with a slightly fragile back, so Pilates is better for me. If you are stiff and tight, yoga might be better.

Barbell session this evening for me and legs feel like jelly!

Yoga also has all the philosophy and religious bits, while Pilates is just about health.

Took a wee walk up our local hill. Just an hour to get up and down but still has decent view, especially as the sun is setting.

Missed a day last week (Thursday?) Cos life, that's two I've missed which e guess is OK, just circuits tonight and turbo last night. Need to an outside ride this week, preferably MTB, if it dries up a bit!

The past few years I've had a few chest infections, and found some of them really difficult to shift. Had really bad coughing fits which in this climate would have got me seriously scared. This year I've been relatively free of them -touch wood.

Me again. Still at it! Upper bodyweight this evening. I wasn't feeling motivated to start, but soon got into it. Got 5x5 pull ups this evening, pleased with that, most yet, and only the very last couple were a struggle. This challenge is great as something to focus on other than Trump & Covid.

I’ve had stomach cramps since Saturday night so I’ve stuck to beginners yoga. Nearly gave it a miss tonight but glad I stuck at it!

I've lost track of which days were which since I last posted. But I've done Dad dancing in the living room with Mini 10 to The Go Team. A few rides on Zwift after receiving the replacement part and getting it fitted, and a few days of hitting 500+ kettlebell swings. I missed a day somewhere in there so I think that's 5 I've missed. But I'm feeling much less tired and much more interested in working out.

The key for me is picking the right day to have a more relaxed session. If I get it too late, or if I've worked too hard then a more gentle day doesn't get me the recovery I need and I struggle again.

Went out tonight for an urban explore on the beast.Must have spat out phlegm about 30 times. My challenge has been knocked sideways by this low level illness.Still battling on though.
I have a nasty feeling my favourite outdoor gym will be out of bounds from Thursday.Does anybody know what the new rules are?

I'm keeping on with my low level  walking, yoga, biking mix and really both enjoying it and feeling the benefits.

So we are about half way? Did a hike and yoga yesterday. Think I will run tonight then leave the riding until Thursday in the hope some of the puddles dry up! Was feeling tired yesterday but haven’t missed a day yet so trying to keep it going

Got my 30 min run in at half 5 this morning before wife went off to work. Nice to know I don't have to wait until about 8pm tonight and go later 🙂
She did remind me once I got back that the boys are going swimming later and I could've done it then 🤦🏻‍♂️

Managed to dodge the rain yesterday and do an hour run at midday. Training with the club later, and it's looking very grey out...

At halfway point(ish), I'm thinking my hips need a rest but I'm wondering how I can continue this as a new way of life. While working from home continues, it is relatively easy to achieve. While 45mins of Yoga is easy enough to squeeze in, the lunchtime runs, evening rides are just so much easier without 1.5-2hrs commute every day.

Day 50. Whoop. And 52 days straight for me. I’m super pleased as I have found motivation pretty bad at times in 2020 (even getting out of bed was a test at times). This has been a huge help and has certainly kept my mental health better whilst work has been so busy. Thank you all.

However after 3 days of Pilates and barbell my glutes are on fire! Got up and walked up the hill in the sunrise this morning - glorious.

I’m definitely going to try and keep going after Christmas whilst continuing to WFH.

My weight hasn’t changed, but do feel like I’ve toned up a little bit too.

This thread is definitely motivating me, off for final swim before pool closes down for lockdown 2. Only started swimming with this challenge so I will have to start doing press ups for the next month to keep my new huge arms in shape!

I think the attrition rate has been far lower this year so well done everyone. Especially those who've not missed a single day, that's pretty incredible going. I don't begrudge anyone who's missed a day though.

I'm definitely starting to feel it - as evidenced by the fact that I slept through all my alarms and didn't get up til 10am this morning! Good job my commute is just to the attic. I feel like I've started to slow down and I did intend to have a rest this week but the weather forecast's good so I thought I'd better make hay.

Day 45 - The challenge for me is rapidly turning into a tour of all Edinburgh and the Lothian's abandoned railway lines. This was a 35 mile fast gravel/cycle path blast out into Midlothian then to the sea at Musselburgh along the old Penicuik branch and the Innocent Railway. Also managed to do that Danny Mac thing where he rides into a kissing gate forwards and out backwards - sirromj's influence must be rubbing off on me!

Day 46 - My wife's American so Halloween is a big deal and in the absence of trick or treaters we went on a spooky graveyard walk for 3 hours to try and find some dead celebrities and my wife's grave (my wife's name is very Scottish and there's one of her in almost every graveyard we go to!)

Day 47 - A mate and I jumped the gun on the bit in the Scottish Tier 3 rules that said you could travel to exercise (the following day that was clarified as a maximum of 5 miles) so headed to Glentress for a really long grueller of a ride with a lot of climbing. It was looking very moody, and despite the car parks being full we didn't really see anyone with the route we picked.

Day 48 - I was totally jeffed after the ride at Glentress so only had the energy for a very, very slow ride around some of the old railway lines around West Edinburgh.

Day 49 - 30 almost entirely gravel miles around Edinburgh. Probably my favourite old railway line in Edinburgh, the Queensferry Branch. It's gravelly singletrack and there's a bit with some pine trees that feels so far from the city. The supertanker sat at the oil loading point was pretty cool too.

Absolutely this. if you're anything like me, you have up-days and down-days. Yesterday I was out for a bit of a hilly ride and had very tired legs so I wasn't expecting much today. However, I timed my planned run perfectly and got the last of the sun hitting the cloud.

I actually had to do a small second run as I was home a couple of minutes quicker than I normally am, so under  the 30 minutes!

It's all downhill from here. Right?

@munrobiker Love your photos, you seem to frequent some of my regular loops!

I did a 65k lap from home down the A7, across to Temple and Gladhouse reservoir and back home via the Peebles road. Lovely day for it.

Here’s to the next 50 🍻

Just sneaked to GT for a lap of the red under the cover of darkness. Shan't be going again, not in the spirit of lockdown / tier 2.

50 days done is great. Can honestly say I haven't missed a day, but bike mileage hasn't been very high either.

Had fun chasing the moon tonight riding some trails that I've not been on since I had a Klein, happy to say I can beat my early 20s self up the climbs in my 40s 🙂

Loving riding everyday.

Had been doing really well but have missed 2 days in total, thanks to travel (pre-lockdown) for work. I'm now self-isolating after coming in to contact with someone COVID positive, very thankful I have an indoor bike, and currently no symptoms. Had some really positive, exciting plans for this month, now sadly completely dashed. hoping to keep spirits up with zwift and some indoor circuits.

I got one chest infection one year didn't ease off the intense exercise enough and seemed to be susceptible to them after that. It was mostly during Winter and when I was commuting 5 days a week year round. Not long commutes but I didn't slow down enough, was going through a phase where I was pretending to be training for some imaginary XC race with technical bits. Combined with poor sleep from baby/toddler wasn't a good recipe. I eventually put the brakes on the hard effort cycling and things improved, but feel like the break from daily cycle commuting due to furlough this year really gave me a chance to recover.

Trials ride last night, ~ 45 minutes, not the best, but ok in the end. Took some photos this morning on the commute (3) and then a lunch time ride down to a long disused hover port (Pegwell Bay). Saw a heron in the field of the 3rd photo. These are some of the nicest places close by to me. Just don't tell anyone that the 2nd photo is looking toward the council waste tip.

It's just over seven years since we moved to Aviemore. Despite coming here often for holidays, it wasn't our first choice but we started to balance up the attractiveness of rural, west-coast living with the practicalities of access to school, jobs, shops and a social life. We've not regretted it. It took me almost three years to get used to the fact that I could ride round all these amazing places and just then be cycling home. After a while, I just stopped looking/appreciating it so much. But sometimes, it still hits me. This evening was one of those. I set off around 3pm, pedalled up to Glenmore and Ryvoan and caught the last of the daylight on the way back. The air was superb, the trails were quiet and the sky was just awesome. Any tiredness in the legs just melted away!

Just wonderful Scotroutes - the fact that your home is my holidays just makes me a tiny bit envious 🙂

Finally the crazy work is over today - only to be replaced with another issue about 3 hours later. However still hoping to get out on the bike tomorrow. Simple 30 min on the turbo this evening.

Three days in a row of cycling, hiking and tonight 80 minutes of weights and stretching.I can actually smell smoke, inside of my house, after the local fires this evening!Still brought up a bit of phlegm at the start of my exercise but not as bad as when on my bike.On the plus side it's not covid.

Has anyone who did it last year appreciated the improvement of weather for the first 50 days? I know there's still time for it all to go downhill but looking at last year's Strava rides by this point in Edinburgh it had already been frosty a few times, I had ridden in full length tights a few times (not gone beyond three quarters so far this year) and my god, the rain was unbelievable.

It'd be nice if it kept up!

Yes indeed, the weather has been so much better this year. Since having a couple of weeks when i felt rough I have ridden a bike every day for at least an hour and apart from the strong wind last week it has been really nice being out enjoying the autumn colours. At half term last year we were at CdB and I remember saying i had never ridden in rain like it. We must hope it continues for as long as possible.

Could you send some of that good weather over here? First hour and a half of today's outing we had torrential rain, got soaked. "The rain in Spain falls mainly on the plain", yeah right.

I reckon it's actually been wetter here than it was last year. We've had a couple of frosty nights, which is abut normal too.

Day 52 - mate and I headed out for a bivvy via the Loch Insh Boathouse for a couple of beers. Felt quite strange sitting in a bar after so long. We camped up a the woodland sculpture park, which is spooky at the best of times!

It was a cold night and I'd not brought my winter bag so I had a very restless sleep, especially as it hit minus 3C this morning.

Back to the Boathouse for some breakfast before a casual ride home on a lovely morning.

Upper bodyweight last night: 49s chest to wall handstand, 7,7,7,7 chin ups, 6,7,7 dips, 16,16,16 push ups, 13,13,13 bodyweight rows ~ 1hr inc lengthy warm up and 2m rest between paired sets.
Trials ride this afternoon ~45 minutes. Would have stayed out for longer but sunny afternoon with mild weather drew everyone out, which was something of a distraction. Weather nice enough for shorts & t-shirt when physically active.

Anyone else cut down their alcohol consumption while doing this?

I didn't drink much anyway, but I'm less keen to have a beer with dinner knowing I'll be exercising once kids in bed. As well as feeling like alcohol is going to undo the good work all this exercise is doing! The thought of drinking whiskey bleurgh.

Only managed a walk last night, a brisk stroll for 45mins got the heart going though.

Today was strolling round Dirleton Castle and Yellowcraigs beach, but did some garage circuits when I got back for proper sweats.

The weather has been better, but it has had its moments of being foul, wet and windy. However, when you gotta go it's great being out in those conditions. Fortunately not too cold.

I said at the beginning of this that my base for the 30 minutes to count was hiking boots on, up the woods and record on Strava. Forgot to set my Strava for this mornings 2 hour hike. Then went back up the woods digging trails, no Strava then either. Ended up walking around town with the dog this evening but didn’t record that. Broke my own rules!
Over it already though as the roast dinner is cooking!
Back to recording it tomorrow with some running I think

Managed a hour on the mtb on Friday, but was so tired from work it was very bimbly. Saturday we did a big garage sort, ready for the power rack, so just did Pilates in the evening. Today did a very foggy 30 mile gravel ride - really enjoyable even if a bit manky in places - a good example of just get out. Also made me grateful for decent kit to keep the cold and damp at bay.

Another warm day down south. The children being challenging past few days and refusing to play nicely on their bike/trike. Hoards of fair weather walkers & cyclists along MY the clifftops. Will be glad when weather is shit so they all stay inside. So didn't bother going for the walk I planned so did yoga this evening.

I'm tuning out this week - going for walks, using the bouldering wall. I was starting to get slower on the bike instead of faster so it's time for a bit of active recover.
Day 50 - fitted a new drivetrain to my hardtail that I used in winter. Headed up the Pentlands. Ruined it. 🙁

Day 51 - further railway line exploration. In order - the old Craighall Road Station in Leith, the tunnel before Rodney Street Station and the infamous Scotland Street tunnel mouth which used to head off to Waverley under the New Town (and lasted only 15 years in use despite all the expense!).

Day 52 - I'd hoped to go and do some laps of my local DH trail but it's been fenced off due to a landslide exposing some asbestos so I made up a route on the fly that I'd never normally do.

Day 53 - ten mile ride to meet my wife for a hot chocolate.

Day 54 - a last hurrah 40 mile gravel ride.

Oh, and a couple of shots of the splatina my gravel bike has developed in the last week to really set your teeth on edge. I've done about 900 miles since the challenge started, of which around three quarters have been on this bike (and almost every ride has been off-road) and it isn't half tough on the bike.

Well ive managed every day so far. We are now out of lockdown in Wales, so im hoping the weather stays decent. We had a bivvi out last week and a fantastic ride home.
I got home from work yesterday at 5pm and it was 13c! Thats really strange.
Im managing about 15hrs exercise a week and it this challenge has really helped me get out every day. I certainly wouldny have done it without this.
Im still alcohol free too for the duration of the challenge. I dont feel any different, apart from i have a little more money at the end of the month.

Still managing everyday, a combination of walking, yoga and riding. And I'm noticing the difference too. I'm getting back to enjoying riding up hills!!

And it's stirred my creative juices too. Writing about biking again and two articles published in  Cranked as a result 🙂

Yesterday a 4 mile run, tried to beat my PB 5k time, but 4s short of matching it.
Today 21 mile doorstep loop - XC & tracks amongst trees in parks, and playing around on urban obstacles. Got a bit muddy in places

Still going here - mostly walks during the week at the moment.
I missed 2 days early on but plan to recover them by getting out twice a couple of times.

I'm enjoying it - nice to be doing something positive at the moment.

Did my fastest 1k in a looooooong time as part of the run this morning. The weather has turned to utter rubbish. Still not getting on the Yoga bandwagon though.

Still on a continuous streak. Gym session for me last night. And at 3.30 this afternoon finished a Teams meeting and quickly chucked my walking trousers on to get out and see some day light (finally we don’t have fog!). Might also do some Pilates later (not on a bandwagon - actually good for my physical well-being).

First "no wetsuit" swim of the season (I've chickened out with a neoprene vest though). A balmy 8-9c in Loch Pityoulish but windy enough for white horses.

Followed up with a 10km run home. Took me a while to get going - possibly related to body temperature?

I shivered just looking at that picture scotroutes.Managed 90 minutes at the outdoor gym yesterday. It was probably illegal but nobody said anything.Seems very busy compared to the first Lockdown anyway.I will go for a picturesque walk to Aldi's and back later.

Well after my Covid induced layoff I went for a half hour run this evening. Heart rate was a bit higher than usual but apart from that it was all good. Lovely to get out and about again.

Welcome back Jeff.

Afraid my 59 day run has come to an end with a persistent cough and a COVID test tomorrow. I’m so sad 🙁

@jeffl - good to have you back. Take things easy though. Six months later and I'm still not completely over the Covid.

@ahsat - bummer! Hope it's negative and the cough is just a seasonal thing.

Me - I was out with a couple of mates tonight, riding a loop round Rothiemurchus on the fatbike and then a couple of beers at the Old Bridge Inn. Both felt great.

Upper bodyweight yesterday. Lowered the volume due to a few little niggles. Then decided it was the perfect time to do clapping push ups. Managed 2 sets of 6 of them. Total was about an hour inc. warm up & cool down.

Today was going to be just a walk, 55 minutes, didn't track it so unknown distance. Kept a fast walking pace. Then decided to get the rigid commuter mtb back up and running - rear brake had stuck piston or something. Replaced it with SLX from a 26" bike with pointlessly new brakes on. Night ride this evening riding street obstacles with saddle fully up. Must have got used to hardtail as got plenty of rim dings on the front while riding down stair sets. An hour.

Had a lovely ride on the road bike yesterday - just went as fast as I liked around a few local roads. Only 45min (WFH, before lunch...) but really enjoyed myself.

Early finish today so I'll be out for a run.

8km run last night with a mate, I think I'm almost starting to enjoy this running malarky, the lack of faff and drivetrain cleaning certainly appeals. Although I think I will take the gravel bike out for a spin later, I feel I've earnt a pint at the Fiddichside 🙂

Thought I'd give my legs a bit of a rest today so launched into my first yoga session. Did 33 minutes with Abi. I can see how it might help with cycling and recovery and my wife joined in too so it was nice to have her company.

I'm really struggling sometimes to keep this going. I still haven't missed a day, but some days when youve been busy and you're half way through making dinner and just about to crack open  a beer and you remember you still have to do some exercise, it's really hard to get motivated....

Having said that I've just forced myself out after having dinner and a beer and just ran my fastest 5k for about 6 months!!

A couple of niggles had me considering stopping the challenge last night to recover from them. Issue with arch of left foot. Seems fine during general activity, but sore after bike rides/runs and possibly exacerbated by downward facing dog yoga pose (stretches that area). Dull ache in right elbow for a few days this week. But have reduced that before by stretching just need to find the right stretch. Despite this, trials rides yesterday & today. Cut short to half hour yesterday by fall, and ~40 minutes today.
