Wattbike and walking seems to be my mainstay.

Btw am I right in thinking that today is day 39?

I was very close to not making it tonight due to work and life. Forced myself into a decent Pilates session before getting into bed. I’d have been so annoyed if I had broken the chain now.

Back to bicycle commuting this week, still waiting to hear about next month. Nice half hour lunch time walk between the fields, bit sunny, not cold.

Upper bodyweight workout this evening. Then made sandwiches for lunch at work tomorrow... and accidentally ate loads of cold stuffing roast parsnips cheese + marmite sandwich, more cheese, just that little noggin of bread that was left. So won't be going to bed at a sensible time now.

Back down in Bolton for a couple of days. This morning’s exertion was 2 laps of Middlebrook outer road in the rain 💦💦
Makes a pleasant diversion running on the flat for a change.

For the full mind and body effect I’ve been trying to do 30 mins bass practice a day too.

Btw am I right in thinking that today is day 39?

https://www.xmasclock.com/

Training last night, another fun session with hill repeats outside, and then 25m intervals in the pool. According to the plan I'm supposed to be doing an easy 30min run today, but might use the turbo instead.

Well I may have come crashing to a halt on the daily exercise today. Went to bed feeling hot and cold and had a crap night's sleep. Woke this morning and seem to have lost my sense of smell. Generally feel pretty tired and run down.

Had the pleasure of a Covid test this morning so will see what that comes back with. On a positive note booking the test was painless and I was in and out of the drive through test within five minutes.

Fingers crossed for you jeffl. There are other viruses knocking around at the moment, hopefully you've got one of them.If not and you have a mild case, how about a week of and slowly extend the challenge to New year?I'm sure we would all support that.

Good luck jeffl, and definitely aim to take it easy for the next week or so - you can then decide whether to continue the challenge or not.

My wife works in the Scottish Government Covid stats team and has said if I get ill at all I've to stop, and I'm also not allowed to exercise so hard I feel run down, opening myself up to illness. Now isn't the time to be pressing on with a daft challenge if you have compromised your immune system with an illness, and if you do get Covid then I'd regard that as being challenge over.

Focus on recovering fully Jeff, whatever it is. Feel better soon!

Get well soon Jeff! As above, take it easy. Had a sore throat which led to a snotty nose and just feeling down with a cold which as the wife reminded me, I get every year around this time. I’ve taken it easy and am now back on it with a vengeance. Just got back from a wet and cold twenty miles on the road bike, exactly the thing I’ve always dreaded about this challenge. Give yourself time to properly recover before even considering this whole thing.

@jeffl take care of yourself. Listen to your body. Don't push things. Hope whatever you have us at the "minor inconvenience" level only.

Not as far as you might think. 45km road loop round some quiet lanes south of Forres/Elgin.

Personally my most lamest effort yet - 2 mile walk round the local streets as an extension from going to the post office to send my Dads birthday card. My work is taking over my life atm (£10M funding proposal!). Yesterday I started Pilates at 2150!! I even had my bar bell delivered yesterday and apart from checking the plates fitted yesterday, I’ve not used it. I’ve now given into wine and Bake Off.

Perhaps your body is needing food, rest and drink as opposed to more exercise.Stuffing yourself occasionally during this challenge is understandable.
Me,I'm taking it steady due to being a bit chesty.Hour or twos walk for me.

Not done anything today yet. Tempted to sack it off but someone posted a 30 minute yoga routine a couple of days ago so I'll give that a go when the kids are out the way

Would have gone for a walk this lunch time but bit to wet out. Commute home was wet so I chose to go off-road because it's been a long time since I had a wet muddy dark commute home. Fun. Taking the commutes easier during the challenge to have energy to do additional exercise - which was a repeat of the 30 minute full body no equipment Bully Juice workout I posted the other week. Jumping jacks ahoy. Push ups were a strain due to the upper body strength workout yesterday, but didn't find it so bad as last time. Maybe I went for it more last time.

Not really thinking about what number day it is to be honest. The combination of 30 minutes minimum, and exercise every day, mean so far I'm not over doing things as a) I exercised the day before, and b) I'm exercising tomorrow. Good job things like walking and yoga count. No social life helps too LOL.

Did about 40 miles on the road bike today. Dragged myself out of bed and was pedalling by about 7:30, the roads were so quiet which was a pleasant surprise. Turned out to be a really beautiful autumnal morning

It's been a combination of KB and turbo these past few days. My turbo sounds like something very bad is happening inside it! However, I have the replacement parts from Wahoo for it so I'm aiming to get that fixed and get back to something slightly less brutal than the 500 KB swings.

I'm definitely feeling tired doing this. I've been trying to keep a balance between gaining fitness, but without getting too exhausted. I've started taking some multivitamins to help with the recovery. And drinking some additional protein. I've been getting around 8hrs sleep most nights.

Is anyone else in the permanently tired state?

Am hours walk on the way to the campsite in Braemar for a few days. Knocked off another Veloviewer square that was niggling me.

FWIW I'm really enjoying interspersing my riding and running with some easier paced walking. As a stress relief it has little to equal it.

True, Colin, I don't do enough walking.

Went up the Pents with Mr Menmuir of this parish for a good old or the world to rights blether before nearly puking up Black Hill.

Felt OK during the day, but was tired by the evening. Cycled the short XC options for commutes today on hardtail, stayed fairly consistently low paced but enjoyable. Smelled fresh out this morning, recalling Spring to mind. Looking forward to that! Lunch times over the past couple of days have been too wet for walks.

Today's exercise was a repeat of 30 minute beginner yoga from the other day.

Yeah I'm trying to go out on the trials bike 2 or 3 times a week, just a half hour each time as it was doing my shoulders in combined with commuting. Here's a couple of videos from the other day 1 2. I was contemplating giving it up the other month because it's difficult and progress is slooooow, but going to stick at it for a while longer yet.

Well my first barbell session for 8 months having left my gym before lockdown. 6C in the garage but was down to just a base layer. I going to really feel that one. Protein shake downed as soon as I got in the house.

And I really enjoyed it - good to get back to proper weight burn.

Sirromj, love those videos, inspiring stuff. Looks fun and makes me want a trials bike too.
In reality, I'm not getting another bike, but I'm gonna make the effort to nail wheelies on the bike I've got.

Sorry for not responding didn't want to spam the thread. Thanks for all the good wishes. Anyway I got a positive test result back this morning so that's me stuck indoors until next Friday. Would have been OK but I'm on leave this week so was hoping to get some miles under my belt but hey ho.

Symptoms wise I feel no worse than having a bad cold or mild flu. Lost my sense of smell which is a bit of a blessing, having 3 farting sons in the house :-).

So hopefully back on it next Friday. Keep posting the pictures, they're helping to keep me sane.

I'm starting to feel it a bit now - getting out the last three days has taken a bit of effort and I am tired, but I can't tell if that's just the clocks changing and it being dark and wet and horrid. It's nowhere near as bad as last year weatherwise though!

Day 37 - a super slow ride to keep the heart rate down and legs calm. I used it as an excuse to watch some wildlife and got a nice shot of this heron-

Day 38 - I'd not been able to ride in the morning due to a vet trip so snuck our after work on the gravel bike.

Day 39 - I'd had a trip to the Lake District with friends from down south booked in for months and since Nicola Sturgeon had told us not to cancel any plans I headed off. Unfortunately the weather was bloody awful so we had to ride at Whinlatter.

Day 40 - Around Loughrigg Fell and up Heron Pike with my pal Rosie and her dog. Mountain bikes are definitely better than gravel bikes.

Day 41 - another fasting day so a 17 mile gravel bimble around the edge of the Pentlands with a big stop to look and listen to the Water of Leith dippers that have been eluding me all year - I've not heard these bird sing before and the song is amazing! Like five different birds in one.

Day 42 - did my hilly ten mile time trial route and finally got the gravel bike above 19mph, which means no photos.

Day 43 - Got caught out by the light dieing so early but snuck in 18 miles on the gravel bike at a half decent pace (an hour). The bridges looked stonking, I've not done this route in full darkness before.

Day 44 - Fast day and really couldn't be arsed so 13 mile recovery pace bimble to try and get my legs to calm down. I think I've got a knee twinge coming on so I might have to start some physio exercises too.

@jeffl - take it easy and get well ASAP.

@munrobiker - super impressed you are cycling pretty much the whole thing. My body and fitting it in would totally let me down.

I’m so annoyed by work atm, I might take a sneaky cycle tomorrow morning as it’s the one day this week not forecast to lash it down.

Echo this, I feel like cheating doing so much yoga. But it makes me sweat and hurt so it is counting and more than I'd do "before". Need to get an extra run or bike in every week, tho.

Yoga tonight.

No rain on commute in or out, but raining lunch time so no walk. Forecast on BBC looked like a deluge. No rain this evening so went out on trials bike for 45 minutes. Took a while to get back into it. It was warm enough out to just be wearing a t-shirt + shorts, I even regretted choosing the 3/4 length shorts.

Great photos scotroutes & munrobiker, jealous of the locations you ride on a regular basis.
Take it easy jeffl.

@jeffl-

I’m on leave this week so was hoping to get some miles under my belt but hey ho

Remember, if you're ill whilst on holiday you are allowed to take it as sick and reclaim the holiday, so you can get those miles in another time!

@ahsat - I just bloody love riding bikes! Last year I basically took the first week in November off riding and did gentler stuff though so I might do that again and come back rejuvinated.

I've avoided any indoor activities so far but it's challenging given the weather/ground conditions. It helps that I'm mixing it up with walking, running and swimming. New Chromecast might incentivise me to try some yoga.

And it’s so dependant on each individual circumstances. I have had an ACL recon a couple of years ago, which means running isn’t at the top of my priority list, and 2 disc prolapses (yes I know I’m pretty broken for a 35 year old), both of which mean weights and Pilates are really beneficial for me. All of which means I can keep riding bikes. I know I’m doing more than I was which is my personal goal.

I’m seeing a huge difference in my fitness! I’ve just completed my first half marathon distance. It took me just under 2hrs which is seemingly below (just) the average time so I’m chuffed with thatNo let me see. A couple of turbo sessions, a ride round Caberston and another run so far this week. Weather not looking good for the weekend so might do some indoor stuff.

Quite a lot of runners never manage that, so well done! Now keep at it and sign up for a race (assuming they ever happen...) in the new year 🙂

Swim done here, and there's decent weather forecast (unlike last weekend) so assuming all goes to plan it's biking tomorrow, then up a mountain on Sunday.

I love doing intervals, but I would advise taking it easy at first. And don't forget you can always do a fartlek on the flat, you don't need hills to improve.

Nice one all. And great job @jodafett. @scotroutes - you are just making me jealous 🙂 Love that area.

My plan for a bike ride first thing was halted when I looked out the window and the dry, sunny spells forecast was replaced by pouring rain. Work took over again and after a few drinks this evening, partly for my Dads birthday, I so nearly packed it in. @p20 pushed me and late Pilates done. Following yesterday’s barbell session it was tough going. Sad I haven’t ridden this week given the forecast for the weekend. Looks like turbo 🙁

@jofafett hehe. Thankfully i don’t drink much, so some Malbec moving...

It was all the same exercises I do normally... I realise not ideal but better than nowt, and @p20 could attest to the effort.

Thanks @scotroutes was starting to panic that I'd have to do today again :-).  It was about this time last year the wheels came off my effort, but hoping things have improved for my son this year and the end doesn't come crashing down around us again...

Looking forward to counting down. Day 50 will be a mtb night ride, which looks like it'll be the last for a while due to lockdown...

Yay. Enjoy.

Weekend of 2 weeks when the weather allowed and a YouTube Pilates session - starting to feel back and core are improving as a result of regular sessions. Weather was far too windy for me to get on the bike - I just feel scared in 45 mph gusts! And I haven’t quite built up to the turbo yet!

Struggling today due to being up all night with a sore stomach! Any ideas on a gentle 30min session? Does stretching count as that might be all I can manage.

Today is Day 47, I've not missed a day yet.

This last week I've discovered Yoga for the first time in my 51 years, trying Kassandra's 30 minute beginners session someone recommended earlier. I'm about 30 years too late getting in to it from the way my hips and pelvis feel the next day, but after 3 sessions this week I seem to be getting the idea of the movements now, so thanks for whoever recommended it - if my plans to do something more "energetic" get scuppered by life at least I know I can get that 30 minutes in later in the evening.

Have been skipping planned home circuits sessions though. Need to commit to getting a couple in each week. Would have done one today but there was a break in the rain and I nipped out on the road bike.

Not sure I'm "fitter" on the back of this, but I'm feeling a different type of fit (relatively speaking) to how I was by doing at least a little bit of different things every day.

Any ideas on a gentle 30min session?

If you've got a smart turbo: a 30min spin on ERG set to 40% of FTP. 30min of yoga off youtube. A 30min walk.

Anyway I nearly died today running, thankfully my mates waited patiently for me on every climb and descent. They're faster than me on a normal day, and after yesterday's ride my legs were shot from the start... Not ideal 😀

Nearly missed a day yesterday but the dread of missing two days before even getting half way got me doing yoga at half ten last night. After doing the beginner yoga with Kassandra the other day, went with one of her 30min intermediate session. Bit more challenging, some fails, but some successes. Really enjoying yoga, good for balance, good for showing weakness and instability in one side of the body or strength in the other. Gentle but requires strength.

Went for a run this afternoon, took a while to recover from a 5 mile run 8 days ago so just did 5k this time but went a little faster. Incuding warm up & cool down walks, 35minutes. Might look for another half hour yoga session now.

Still at it here, some weights in the house which never seem as effective as weights at the gym but was work done nonetheless. Anyone have the links to the yoga and pilates vids?

From a quick search to see the difference between pilates and yoga I guess pilates has more movement. Might have to try it. Went for a half hour walk at lunch time, will go for a half hour ride hopping about later.

Very easy ride today, after Saturday and Sunday's efforts I wasn't up for anything harder! It does feel slightly like cheating, but an hour's easy spinning on the bike was just the ticket.

And that's post #800 assuming no one else gets in before me 🙂
